Pros +
- Very nice park-side property, walking distance to train station. Upper floor rooms have view of park. Very nice beds. Nicely appointed rooms. Good lighting.
- Facilities in the main building were nice, the hotel is in a good location opposite a lovely little park just on the outskirts of the centre
- The only observation is that the annex or Garden area has no elevator (Lift) the main hotel block does. So if booking specify if you need an elevator. Hauling luggage upstairs at 80 years old is not my joy anymore. The hotel will provide staff to help with luggage but 20+ steps could be a deal breaker
Cons -
- I was in the garden court rooms, a block the other side of the car park. The room facilities were fine but unfortunately the wall was paper thin and I could hear next door including their conversation at 6.15am :(
- No steps.
- The reception staff are quite unfriendly and not welcoming. Staff in the bar and dining area are wonderful .

Wonderful position on the River Taw , opposite beautiful gardens. Excellent room and bathroom . Great bar , exceptional food. Hotel is about 10 mins walk from the centre of town.

Clean hotel, great location
View wasn't great
An old property that has really and truly been renovated throughout to bring it to the point it feels brand new!Clean, bright, modern, with large bedrooms, big comfy beds, large clean bathrooms with showers that have more power than needed (difficult to find today) and towels that appear brand new!Plenty of parking where SUV’s actually fit in a space marking! Beautiful and simple, well kept gardens!Bright and cheerful, spacious lounges, bars and dining rooms with outside serving!Very obliging and cheerful staff! On top of all that, a beautiful park is across the road!
Hard to think of anything… which says a lot! Bravo to everyone that works there and the management that keeps it up to speed and specs! ….and especially a round of appreciation to gardener / groundsmen ? Keep it up!
The property is okay overall. Its location is convenient if you’re traveling to Exmoor, and it’s only about 30 minutes from Valley of Rocks, which was great for us.The parking area is spacious, which is a big plus. The restaurant closes around 20:30, so if you’re planning to eat there, make sure to reserve in advance. The rooms are on the smaller side, and unfortunately, the shower in room 303 had extremely low water pressure—definitely something to improve. All in all, it’s suitable for a one-night stay
The room was very comfortable with an attractive view over the park opposite. The road outside was quiet and it was a short walk into town. The food at breakfast and in the evening was well cooked and very tasty. The bar area was spacious and welcoming and all of the staff were pleasant and friendly. Parking spaces were available at the rear of the hotel.
As with the majority of hotels, there was only one comfortable chair in the room.
A lovely hotel, 5 mins walk from the town centre. Staff were wonderful and very accommodating for a disabled member of our party. We didn't get a chance to use many facilities as it was a short stay but the breakfast was lovely!
Staff were excellent. Good sense of humour. Great location. Just a short walk from the train station and into town and the Queen Theatre. Lovely bar area with comfy chairs and a modern decor and feel.
Pillows were very very soft and disappeared to nothing when you put your head on them.
Food in restaurant was excellent
Room was very cold on arrival and took a long time to warm up
the breakfast was ok but not to the same standard as your hotel overall.Toast basic wholemeal, not granary or multi seeded or sour dough, change this then your spot on
as above
Breakfast lovely and freshly cooked good selection ,staff really friendly and helpful .
Everything was great evening mealWas really good
Very clean and the staff were friendly and efficient
For this visit we were in the annex so we had to cross the car park to make use of the restaurant and bar
Cleanliness. Comfortable room. Well-cooked food.
Check in very silly. Ipad had to be used by customer to input info when it was already provided at booking. No pillow protectors. No in-room instructions/info. Modern but characterless.
Nice and clean, comfortable room
Heating in room took a while
Clean comfortable room, had a free upgrade. Excellent breakfast.
The young lady on reception was excellent
Breakfast was very poor: overpriced, limited selection on the Continental option, and service was managed really badly
Clean comfortable room with a lovely view
All the Staff were all friendly and welcoming. Food was delicious and the room was warm and comfy. We had an amazing stay and the negatives aren't really negatives just more of an FYI.
The car park is a bit tight. There was a fridge but it didn't seem to be working. And no iron in the room.
