About
Standing high above the Wye River, the Royal Hotel has fine river and countryside views. It offers traditional cuisine, free on-site parking and bedrooms with free Wi-Fi. The Royal Hotel is next to historic St Mary’s Church and a 5-minute walk from Ross on Wye's stores. The M50 highway is a 5 minute drive away, and The Forest of Dean is 20 minutes by car. Each bedroom has a small sitting area, satellite TV, and tea and coffee facilities. Some rooms have scenic views, and some are located in the stable block. The historic hotel is built on the foundations of a 13th-century Bishop’s Palace. It has been visited by Queen Victoria and famous author, Charles Dickens. Full English breakfasts are available, and classic meals are served until 10 pm. In summer, you can dine on the terrace with its excellent views of the Wye Valley.

Creaky floor boards
Friendliness of the staff, food was excellent, location perfect for town, beautiful view and bedroom comfortable.
Stairs to the room. No lift.
Lovely relaxing stay. Super breakfast and wonderful supper with really friendly staff.
The room view overlooking the river.
The staff needs to brush up on their knowledge of where to direct guests to find open restaurants, especially on Sundays. Before my departure on Sunday, I wanted to have a fish and chips meal. One of the staff members suggested I go to the King's Head; however, they only served Sunday roast.
Great location overlooking the River Wye and a few short steps to the high street - one which has much to offer. The room was spacious.
The bedroom's floorboards were a little creaky. Ok, it's an old building, but it doesn't make for a relaxing time when you're disturbing your partner and those in the room below. Bathroom was quite small by comparison. The bath was small too. WiFi was poor.
Clean friendly good food
How to find it (difficult) and limited parking
Excellent clean room in wonderful stylish hotel in wonderful location with great views of Wye Valley and very close to town centre - also outstanding value. Will definitely return
Big great views great food friendly staff Carol was lovely at breakfast
No lift but good excercise
Breakfast
WiFi - very poor indeed, in my room, and happened to be necessary for me during my stay.
Clean comfortable room
Could do with an extra bath towel
Lovely building - our room was lovely
Room had ladybird issue they even dropped from ceiling while in bed. More hooks or coat stand and stronger light /lamp. Such lovely building it missed a lounge area which can’t be helped with layout
Good location.
Expensive to eat and drink there and the quality of food is not great.
Comfortable. homey and modern bathroom. Very comfortable bed. An older hotel but quiet. Excellent. dinner Nice location to walk into town. free parking.
Friendly staff . Nice sized room with a view . Good location
Had a drink in the bar early evening which was fine but some tables were reserved so had we wanted to stay in the bar it would have been a problem .
Very impressed by care and attentiveness of all staff. Excellent location and plenty of space in car park. Dinner and breakfast both excellent.
Main gripes were room very hot and pillows uncomfortable.
Perfect location for town and river. Amazing views from the balcony. Excellent food. Brilliant staff, caring and efficient especially Sofie smith Who looked after us on New Year’s Eve, made our evening special.
Our room was on, 2nd floor in main building and has Steep stairs to 2nd floor, would recommend telling venue when booking if any mobility issues as wouldn’t be suitable
Always love to stay here. Lovely staff and food and friendly atmosphere in great location.
The views and above
Great accomodation, comfy bed. Had both dinner and breakfast, both superb and reasonably priced. Great atmosphere and restaurant staff were excellent in both evening and morning. Great stay all round and would definitely revisit.
