- I gave this hotel a poor review last year but I’m pleased to say things have certainly improved with the new managers.Warm and welcoming and a totally different experience to last year.Good spaced car park and great selection of ales.
Cons -
- The room was really small, which wasn't an issue. The problem was there was about an 8 inch drop off to get into the bathroom. Someone with short legs and who had, had knee replacements had an issue getting in and out of the bathroom. It was really dangerous in the middle of the night. It would have helped if there had been something to hold on to, but there wasn't. Also not so much the Inn's fault but there was a party going on the first night and they were right outside my window really late. I tried shutting the windows but it didn't help plus it was really hot in the room without the windows being open.
- No Teabags in the room, Kettle thermostat broken so carried on boiling, TV didn't work
- Worst hotel stay of my life. Paid £133 for a “double” room with breakfast at Greenman Fownhope and it was a complete rip-off. The room was dark, depressing, and felt like a jail cell with its tiny window. The “double bed” was just two singles shoved together at different heights, completely useless, with springs sticking into your back which can be seen in the picture. At night it turned into a nightmare: over 100 mosquitoes swarming the lamp. We had to leave the light on to keep them in one spot, but the buzzing kept us awake all night anyway. No fridge in the room either, so no cold water in the middle of summer. If you turned on the fan It moved the mosquitoes around. We didn’t sleep at all. A disgrace of a hotel and a total waste of time and money. Avoid at all costs.

Beautiful quaint place. Fabulous. Our 2nd visit and we will be back.Great restaurant- food excellent. Had breakfast and evening meal both days. Highly recommended.
Shower and location was good.

Handy location for what I wanted. Not a lot else available in the area.
Comfortable enough, but rooms are quite noisy. Creaking floorboards, banging doors from other guest rooms, traffic noise.
convenient for Hereford, comfortable and pleasant, helpful staff
Food excellent and room great. Bed also very comfortable.
Beautiful quaint pub with old charm. Lovely village feel, nice walks. Very picturesque.
A fridge in the room would have been very welcome and an attachment for the hand held shower to go over the bath.
Location fantastic
Had travelled a long way to hotel and was looking forward to breakfast went down to dining room following morning to be told generators not working and no cooked breakfast I have seen on previous reviews this has happened very disappointing a hotel that can’t provide cooked breakfast shocking sort the electricity supply out
Staff were welcoming and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. The building is beautiful with low beams and big oak doors. The food selection was really good and the quality was amazing.. We had a wonderful night stay, only wish we could've stayed longer now.
Nothing we didn't like.
Our room was very comfortable and clean. The whole hotel has a welcoming vibe and is quite quaint due to it's age. We loved it.
Wonderful staff, food was excellent, large room and spotless.
If Fownhope works for you as a location this is a great place to stay. Room was nice, food and beer was great. Staff were superb...reception showed me to my room, rather than just point up the stairs. Barman called me Sir, lady at breakfast made sure I got what I wanted cooked to order etc. Little things maybe - but good old fashioned service ensured I will be back at some point.
Nothing to complain about..
Great 300 year old Hotel with superb character and very well furbished. Staff very freindly. Would definately use again.
Location was close to Hereford . The breakfast was excellent . We stayed in the deluxe double with a balcony and sofas to relax on but the bed felt well worn . Disappointing.
We were warmly welcomed to our stay by Mandy who from then on did everything with the help of the staff to make our stay memorable , everything from the room to the food was excellent and Mandy was a gem
The staff members were extremely helpful Hannah, Ben and Mandy. My husband is in a wheelchair and they had to get a ramp for him. I had hurt my ankle and when Mandy noticed I was struggling she gave me her arm to help me to my table. Nothing was too much trouble for her.
Pros:Lovely locationGood foodFriendly staffCons:A 'large double' bed that was actually two beds together with mismatched mattresses, causing a big gap between them
