Pros +
- Our stay at the Barn has been nothing short of excellent. The rooms are spacious, spotless, and fully equipped with everything we need. The staff are consistently polite, friendly, and incredibly helpful. The newly refurbished gym looks fantastic, and the spa is a wonderful added bonus—perfect for relaxing and unwinding. The restaurant is also very good, offering tasty food at reasonable prices. We always enjoy our regular stays and are very happy with the value for money. It’s a great experience every time.
- Over cooked hot breakfast. Nice selection of pastries, fruit, yoghurts and cereals
- The swimming pool was good
Cons -
- Over Cooked breakfast. Didn’t get asked what room number we were staying in to check if we had paid for breakfast. Staff on duty in breakfast room not very friendly and looked miserable. In the evening we ordered 1 fish and chips. We waited 1 hour then after us asking where it was it came out!!! Just a piece of batter and chips. Not a bit of fish in sight. Sent it back and got my money back and complained to management who gave us a free breakfast for the next day.
- Several things were missing or broken in our room:- the hairdryer smelt of burning, (the receptionist brought us another), no liquid soap in one of the dispensers ( the receptionist sorted this at my request), if you swam you used your bath towel from the room or paid for another 2 towels, only 2 sachets of sugar in the room,we said no to servicing the room but had to ask for more coffee and milk and sugar, the metal knob fell off the shower handle. The Bar and lounge were good however some of the carpets were worn in the public areas especially by the French windows. There is a raised metal strip on the entrance to the hotel which I tripped on.
- The carpet areas around the hotel and in the bedrooms are quite worn.

The reception and library sitting area very nicely decorated. The spa facilities were great. The swimming pool is a great addition with perfect temperature water. Great sauna and steam room. The bar in the hotel is nicely stocked and also serves coffee. Very friendly barman. After a not too good experience on our first day at the hotel, it was made better the second day by having management around all areas.
The carpet areas around the hotel and in the bedrooms are quite worn.
Nice location
Very busy , too many venues at once!!No hot water in room!! Inforned reception they said they would try to resolve their end but would prob not be until the am( and it came back on in the am of our departure)Spa was full ( as too many guests) had to go on a waiting list and await a call, eventually got the call but late on and Spa closed at 7pmOnly 1 bar open for the whole hotel so wait times at bar were at least 20 min+Have complained via booking.com but they still not got reply also ive messaged but no reply as yet!!!!
Radiator and a wall mounted heater in the room so temperature wasn't an issue Bed was comfy. The bath was large and filled very fast. Room had all the basics.Entrance feels more modern and Higher end. Felt it was a decent room for what we paid and would stay again if in the area.
Only food available was the in room pizza deal (1 pizza and 2 cans for £20).No local takeaways/ nearby food app deliveries. Rooms are starting to show age so will need refurb in the next year or so. The all in one shampoo, bodywash, handsoap... I prefer separates. Wasn't a plug on both sides of the bed. Room was over a service area- not sure if it was a heating or cleaning system but it was noisy.
Lovely staff attentive and welcoming from the reception to the bar staff .Beds were comfortable.
The room we had was very much in need of a full renovation. The door to the room was hard to open and doesn't shut without a good pull. The pictures on the site dont reflect that room .
Most of the staff were really polite and friendly. The pool area is nice.
The reception/ check inn staff came across rude. Wasn’t very welcoming. The mattress in the room definitely needs replacing.
The room was clean and the bar food was good.
The receptionist was not welcoming or friendly. She was talking on phone for a while meanwhile ignoring us and then failed to provide a sincere apology once off the phone. Pushed a card and said fill in car reg number, took credit card for holding deposit and gave room key card, no pleasantries provided in between. Rude and not friendly. We returned and Complained about the room and wanted it changing, she gave the most uncensere apology went and closed the door and seemed to speak about us to other staff member.
Large quite remote Hotel. Facilities acceptable. Check in very good.
Our room was almost bizarre. A loft conversion. Only ceiling lights, no bedside lights. Very plain. Lots of blank walls. Stains on bathroom floor and bedroom carpet. Paint damage. Not what we’d expected and very much overpriced.
Large comfortable room though the furniture is looking tired and worn. Why does the TV in every room we stay in need setting up wherever we go?
The fire safety light above the door, which is supposed to stay on even if the power is cut off, decided to flash bright white intermittently during the night. At 2.25 am I stood on a table and taped the key holder over the light and discovered marks in the paintwork suggesting I was not the first to have to do this.
The reception staff were great, very accommodating to my needs as I had injured my ankle the day before arrival so ensured I had a room on the ground floor. The room was lovely, the best I have stayed in. Spa area lovely, pool could be a little warmer but ok once you are in it. James who works on the Bar was good to talk to and very professional. Also offered to bring my drinks to the table. 5star all round.
Nothing at all.
Location
The beds & the price.
Dissatisfied
Staff , lack of information , long wait for dinner to be served
The Spa was lovely and the staff were friendly and professional.I had breakfast that was included in the price which was delicious.Overall, it was really good value for money.
I would have scored higher, were it not for the fact that the mattress was obviously well beyond it's useful life, and was uncomfortable. It was lumpy and had indentation in it.That was a shame because the overall experience other than the mattress was good.
Pool area very nice but careful as changing rooms floors were slippery so used duck boards
Whole place looks a little tired with need of investment for decoration carpets etc. Kitchen needs to look at time to produce dishes 40 minutes for pie and mash and grilled gammon on a quiet Sunday evening at 6.30 only six people in the bar. Morning buffet looked tired very dry overcooked sausage and eggs that you could use as a key ring then and a thirty minute wait for scrambled eggs on both mornings when we asked about them were told just being finished as a chef I just thought they had been forgotten. The receptionist put us down for a room service but it didn’t happen
The location . Very good breakfast, the pool , sauna etc are very good .
It is starting to look tried . Needs new carpets in the dining room. Needs new seating in the bar , looking dirty and tired . The room which we were in needed a new window, wouldn’t fasten properly.
Again, the lady on the reception to book me in was lovely. Chatty and very pleasant to deal with. Way to chat to with general conversation being easy.
The morning staff are a little different. I don’t know if they don’t enjoy being up early but they seem hard work. I stayed 2 nights in a row. I was only supposed to stay 1. I checked out the first day, the lady said thanks, that’s it. Second morning was like get blood from a stone. Never asked how my stay was or any other questions about my room etc. it seems odd to me that this is the case. I had asked for both my receipts at once for both stays. It was like I asked too much
The food was amazing.
The room lacked the cleanliness one would expect, large black stains on the carpet, and hair strings scattered across duvet and pillow cases. It appeared that the room wasn't cleaned properly after its previous guest check-out.
Check in staff was brilliant. The lady who checked me in was chatty and very friendly too. Bar staff were friendly also and were actually able to engage in conversation. Room was very spacious but the bed wasn’t the best for me.
All was good.
