Excellent staffOak room food exceptional
Couldn’t fault it
We had a lovely warm and friendly welcome from reception staff on our arrival and in fact all staff members were excellent. It was full of character and in a great location. The breakfast was enjoyable and we had a nice dinner in the Garden Room.
It’s unfathomable that there were no tea and coffee making facilities in the room. I have never experienced that in any hotel before, from B&Bs through to 5 star hotels around the world. The other thing I have never encountered for at least 30 years, is a bed with blankets and heavy eiderdown, rather than a duvet. I am sure these are not changed for every guest!!!
Breakfast was excellent, also ate in the garden room, couldnt fault any of the food
Only one little niddle... staff forgot to bring our coffees, but soon rectified
Location york bar breakfast staff
A hotel steeped in history air of luxury however rooms are dated and desperately in need of new carpets
Staff were super helpful, welcoming, immaculately turned out, it was an absolute pleasure to see such a busy hotel in January, there was a real buzz. Breakfast was absolutely delicious. The room was spotless and had everyhting you need, bed super comfortable with lovely pillows.
When we arrived I was told that I had to pay, I showed that the money had left my bank account but was told this was a virtual payment (I have worked in hospitality all my life so I know how this works!) which wasn't correct I didn't feel the receptionist was particularly caring or helpful and there were a lot of people at reception so it was a little embarrassing. Payment had been taken but there was no rael apology for keeping me waiting.
the room was very good, bed was comfy and linen was spotless, breakfast was superb with a great choice and served piping hot by pleasant staff, a big thumbs up
Overall a very good visit. Rooms were pleasant and comfortable, staff were professional, and the food good.No complaints.
The management clearly set and expect high levels of service from their staff. This I think can come across as a lacking a little warmth in their approach to patrons. Just an observation.
I have stayed at The George before and it is consistently excellent. The household team are welcoming, the facilities are spotless and the business centre is ideal when working away.
The ambience of the establishment. Lovely atmosphere, friendly and confortable. Nice to be given attention when something required. The whole experience was lovely. Christmas decorations were original and beautiful.
No negative items.
Lots of charm and location was great.
1st room had a bad smell, but they moved us to a better room. Decor is old yet doesn’t quite fit for a place as nice as this. Difficult place to get a drink, maybe due to it being Christmas but as a guest you would like to think you could get a seat somewhere.
My stay was exceptional, relaxing, comfortable, and I felt incredibly well taken care of throughout The property is very charming and the team are so attentive. Kay, the manager was everywhere making sure all guests were comfortable and having a good time. The food is delicious and there is an extensive bar menu. The breakfast is very good and lots of choice. The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated. It would be difficult not to enjoy yourself here. A perfect pre Christmas break to get into the festive spirit.
We took our dog with and as you are limited where you can sit with your pets it was a challenge finding somewhere to sit as the only seating available was in areas we could not sit. I think it would be worth allocating a seat for guests staying with their pets in the lounge for meals.
Excellent welcome and attention in green room for evening meal and breakfast.Food Excellent. The location, decoration, food, and dining service were excellent. I would certainly go back to eat there.
Long wait at reception.Very poor InternetNo tea and coffee in the room and packet latte when ordered!Would have preferred quilt to blankets.Bar staff could have been more receptive and not just 'serving'.Ordered a whiskey old-fashioned; it was not made properly, and it was actually the worst I have ever had. I would certainly go back to eat there, but I would stay elsewhere unless I knew some of the poor issues of basics like: tea & coffee facilities, and WiFi were addressed.
Loved the ambience, the Christmas decorations and the staff…..Room was large and bathroom was fabulous.
Room too hot ( even with window open) - couldn’t change the temperature. Shame the television wasn’t a smart tv - so we couldn’t watch i player No fridge or facilities for making hot drinks in the the roomRoom decor a little sad…….. expected it to be old fashioned but not as dilapidated as we found it.Wasn’t the luxury we expected.
Staff friendly and professional Facilities amazing food excellent Room comfortable and clean
