About
Surrounded by picturesque lawns and gardens, The Old Swan was once the famous retreat of Agatha Christie. It offers modern rooms with private bathrooms and on-site car parking. Originally an 18th-century coaching inn, it now features rooms with tea and coffee-making facilities, a TV and trouser press. Some also have a stand-alone bath and views over the garden. The traditional Swan Lounge and Bar offers a selection of beverages and afternoon teas, while the Wedgewood and Library restaurants serve fresh, locally sourced dishes. The Old Swan was home to Agatha Christie during her disappearance in 1926, and has since been used as a film set for the 1979 film, Agatha. Just a short walk from Harrogate town center, the building is 5 minutes’ walk from the famous Betty’s Tearoom and 15 minutes from Harrogate Railway Station.

- Quirky, traditional, charming, fabulous staff, food, rooms good lovely and warm great couple of days away in winter.
- Absolutely everything. All the staff from reception, assistant Manager/Manager, (who dealt with requests straight away) to the house keeping. The marvellous fire in the lounge, lit at night was great to sit by. There's plenty of lovely lounges with comfortable chairs to read. It's in a fab location on a quiet side of Montpellier. Loved it I was treated very nicely.
- Room was really large, breakfast was delicious & plentiful, evening meal was fantastic, & the staff were great
Cons -
- On my first night,I was awoken before 5am by the Korean guests in the next room, banging/shouting. Which ruined my first day due to tiredness .This was a guest problem, not the hotel. Did mention at reception to the young girl. Who suggested it happened again to contact the night manager. The rest of the stay was quieter.
- It was extremely noisy in our room, the cleaning staff were the noisiest I’ve ever experienced, one even just used her key to walk straight in our room without knocking which had already been serviced (good job we had clothes on) we could also hear the people in next room talking & banging from the room above at 7am some soundproofing is needed this was in room 153. Also the discretionary 10% added to everything is an absolute no go in my opinion I leave a tip to the people I want not who someone else decides (stop doing this) also it was cold in dining room
- The bedrooms need an update. The cooked breakfast looked good but more continental options needed.

Old glamour and charm. Our room was very large with a beautiful bathroom and roll top bath. Evening meal that was included in the price we paid was exceptional.
The bedrooms need an update. The cooked breakfast looked good but more continental options needed.
The reasons for my visit to Harrogate needed my stay to be somewhere near the town centre. The hotel's location was perfect. My room was perfectly adequate; comfortable and warm. The facilities, bathroom, TV etc were very good.Breakfast was very good with a wide range of choice of food. The flavour and texture of any food is not enhanced by being placed under the heat of a "Bain Marie". It was, however, quite acceptable.
The location was excellent and the staff were friendly and very attentive. A very characterful hotel with lots of history.
The standard double room was not as shown on the internet pictures. The hotel and room were cold. The shower temperature was either scolding hot or freezing.
Nice room Great breakfast
Carpet is hideous
Very good location, nice hotel, big rooms, clean and comfortable.
I don't think it's very fair to charge people extra for parking.
Great location, excellent food and friendly staff.
No control over the heating in bedroom.
Beautiful hotel, well kept, friendly staff, perfect location.
Good staff very good food
Very poor heating in room poor excess of a temporary heater supplied
Plenty of choice. Buffet not hot enough. Evening meals very good. Staff excellent.
Clean comfortable room with a lovely view over front gardens. Nice refreshment tray. Very friendly & helpful staff.
Radiator did not work in bathroom
The breakfast was very tasty with fresh local produce and a lovely large dining room to enjoy it in. The hotel is a lovely old building and huge.
We had a basic double room and the bathroom was very small and the toilet was tucked away behind the bath which felt very claustrophobic. We had the evening meal option and were disappointed with the choice of options left at the time we booked the meal for. No one in our party were able to have our first choice and we didn't like the meals we ended up with.
The staff were friendly and helpful, especially regarding parking.
The bedroom furnishings were slightly dated
