About
Overlooking the Market Square in the small town of Masham, this charming inn is set within a fine Georgian building of tremendous character, built in the second half of the 18th century. A quintessential English town, Masham lies peacefully on the River Ure on the outskirts of Ripon. It houses quaint almshouses and holds traditional markets twice a week. Established in Saxon times, its beautiful church was mentioned in the Domesday Book. Kings Head Hotel by Chef and Brewer Collection has been carefully renovated to combine traditional Georgian splendor with modern day comforts. To truly relax, during the winter you can take advantage of the real wood and coal fires, while in the summer the terrace is the perfect place for a refreshing drink.

Pros +
- It was comfortable, clean and welcoming.
- The place was great and the staff were friendly and helpful
- Masham is a lovely busy market town - the hotel has the best location and is an opportunity for Greene King to shine if it wanted to
Cons -
- Nothing to complain about. Room not equipped for two but this was soon rectified.
- We were woken up at around 6am each day of our stay with someone stomping around in the room above us.
- Have to say the King is tired and needs a redecorate, new carpet from the stairway upwards to refresh that 'old' hotel smell - the cleaners obviously do try their best with what they have but no one likes black mould in the shower they have to use - not necessary or healthy.

The food was really good quality and good sized meals. The staff were all very helpful and friendly and nothing was too much trouble.
The only thing that I could say negatively is at every meal there was things on the menu they did not have.
The hotel is located in a lovely village. The accommodation in the annex was great, everything we needed. Big thanks to the staff, who were all so friendly and helpful. The food in the restaurant was excellent.
Only downside was there was a lot of dust in the room. A good vacuum would solve the problem.
Comfy room, convenient location, friendly staff, excellent value for money
The room was just fantastic. Very luxurious. We usually expect a pet friendly room to be slightly basic but this was large, immaculate and sumptuous. Food and ambiance in the dog friendly bar was perfect. We will be back!
Excellent location.Good breakfast.Staff friendly.
In need of a bit of TLC.Paint work tired and carpets on the stairway need a clean or replacing.
Cosy pub and rooms. Well kept beer and friendly staff
Nothing I can think of. Just had a lovely sray
Central location easy to park and access
Thought both the rooms and the pub are in desperate need of refurbishment. I remember the Kings Head as a quality venue in Theakstons heyday. Now it’s very tired and lacking in character.
Location, room, food and the service in the breakfast room from Louise and help with our cases by Charlotte in reception.
Service at dinner was slow, although the food was good.Staff pleasant, but appeared to be under pressure from a busy Sunday lunch.
i like staying here as its convenient for my work travel , the staff are always happy & helpful , the food is absolutely spot on , The Sea Bass Risotto is amazing ! beers great. will stay again for sure.Steve
cant fault it
Good location and comfortable bed.
Rooms require a complete overhaul. Paper coming off the wall in Room 3, radiator paint all chipped. Although a listed building the window frames in bedroom require a complete clean and repaint. Currently peeling paint and filthy frames and torn window netting. Prefer a walk in shower, difficult for older guests to climb in to the bath to take a shower. Would also like a comfortable chair in the room.
Clean, modern, up to date
Nice well equipped room, good food at a reasonable price, cosy welcoming atmosphere
Great location. Old fashioned, but clean and tidy.
Booking system for food was bizarre.
A really dog friendly place to stay, good food, lovely town.Accommodating staff just run off their feet.
The staff were exhausted they were lovely but running on empty.
Location
Gents toilets in the bar were small and difficult to manoeuvre. The bar were short staffed too, the staff working were ace but needed help
The room was spacious, warm and comfortable, the staff, food & service was exceptional
Having to leave and go home
Lovely clean bedrooms Pleasant staff. Great location . Food great when it was available
Lack of availability of food from the menu. It was easier to say what was available than what wasn't. Lounge area was cold, no heating on. Locals were going home to get warm. Asked for the fire to be lit which did help slightly. Very disappointing second visit. Not sure if I would return again
