About
The Mallyan Spout is a 19th-century country house set within picturesque grounds with views out over the Esk valley. Just a short walk behind the hotel is Mallyan Spout waterfall. All of the modern, spacious rooms at The Mallyan Spout are decorated with private bathrooms and views of the hotel grounds, the village church, or the Esk Valley. All rooms also feature flat-screen TVs, hairdryers, and tea and coffee-making facilities. Dining at The Mallyan Spout is provided with fresh, locally-sourced produce and Whitby fish, served either in the dining room with its varied dining menu, or the more informal bar area. Three lounges with log fires are also available to relax in. - Good all round
- Beautiful location and surroundings
- We have stayed there 10 years ago and loved it then and it was even better this time, lovely room lovely food and drinks and all the staff were so friendly
Cons -
- Stayed here many times over the years and have always enjoyed the food in the bar, less formal, but found on this occasion the food wasn’t so good and the chef’s specials weren’t available, also breakfast wasn’t very nice, poached eggs were very hard, sorry, we will be back hopefully service will improve
- Nothing everything met our expectations
- Some areas not particularly well cleaned. Breakfast scrambled eggs were more like a puréed mush.

Lovely comfortable hotel. Immaculately clean. Great staff and good food, all set in beautiful countryside. Surrounded by hills, sheep and some cute little shops and cafes. Would highly recommend.
Fantastic historic building in a great location.
Some areas not particularly well cleaned. Breakfast scrambled eggs were more like a puréed mush.
Everything was perfect. I like Goathland and Mallyan Spout Hotel. Our rooms were decorated in style and comfortable. View from both rooms windows: one on church, the other to garden, quiet and peaceful place. Evening meal from restaurant - very tasty. Good breakfast of our choice with freshly squeezed juices to choose from. Atmosphere, rooms decor, lounge with fireplaces. We left rested and fulfilled with positive vibes. Thank you to the staff. Additional compliment to chef. Check out till 11 am, so no rush.
To hold suitcase on stairs to 2 floor, as no lift, but understandable as building was build long time ago and has character
Excellent breakfast. The view from our bedroom was good and we enjoyed the very well kept garden I like the decor and comfort of a traditional hotel.
The evening bar service was slightly slow but the hotel was busy. Everything else was excellent.
The room was nice and clean and comfy .Ideal location .We found the bar ideal for food and drinks .
It was quite noisy in the evening, we could hear the floorboards creaking and people talking in the bar area .
Spacious, clean and comfortable. Easy to park.
Unfortunately the food didn’t live up to expectations!
Amazing location. Good food and hospitality.
Great location, the staff were very attentive throughout our whole stay. The food was great, we had our evening meal there as well as breakfast.
Room was a little tired - could see where repairs have been attempted to be made.
Nice hotel with quaint lounges, staff were very good, and made it extra special, as it was my birthday. Lovely big beer garden and adjoining cafe.
Hotel was lovely Comfortable rooms excellent food and staff were very helpful
Beautiful location, comfortable room, awful dining.
friendlyness of the staff, and the surrounding area, the hotel is in a beautiful place.
a lift to rooms would be good, the bed was a bit uncomfortable, just a note, the toilet didnt flush properly, but we were ok with it
Staff very friendly, breakfast was lovely Great location to go walking Lovely view from the room
Bed was small, didn’t sleep well due the squeaky floor boards above our room
Very comfortable room(standard double).Good food.Public areas very appealing.
I thought the restaurant was cold on our evening meal! Had to put my coat back on! My husbands soup was cold! The cooked breakfast was horrendous we didn’t eat it! Was all chucked together microwaved! Filled our selfs up on cereal and toast! We don’t like to complain as not like that but this is a true experience! Plus in the afternoon the gin and Guinness was a different price every time ?♀️don’t think we be staying again as we love the location but it’s a no! Less any good offers come on! Kind regards Lorain Davie stayed on the 29th March! X
Room was good although could not turn down the heating, ended up being very/ too hot.
Better service and attention to detail by the restaurant staff, not knowing what was available or not from the menu.Food was ok but not over hot, mass produced breakfast which could have been improved.No-one ever ask us if the food was ok !!
Friendly staff, immaculate rooms, room service superb, great meals, beautiful location
