Great location

Great location, friendly staff, lovely pub.

Kitchen extractor fan below was a bit loud all night but got used to it.

Lovely location and very welcoming, was just the job for an overnight rest after a long drive. Evening meal was excellent, ashame there is no breakfast during week days but we knew that before we booked. The room and onsuite worked well.

The Black Dog was very welcoming and really comfortable room. Excellent breakfast choices. Lovely atmosphere.

Had lunch on Friday and waited almost an hour for 3 small plates.The room was clean but quite a lot of gatherings of fluff on the carpet (maybe from the hoover?)Front door to Pub closed at 10pm

I didnt stay for breakfast but dinner was great, good menu and lovlely food ! The staff were all amazing and my room was big with all you need. if you want to stay just out of town and in a lovely pub with really friendly staff then this place is perfect !!

Really impressed with the place had lovely meal of the evening and can't complain with any of facilities very clean and tidy, great staff nice food and extremely good value for the money

Clean, tidy, staff were really friendly, was not rushed to check out, pity about breakfast only on weekends, we didn't let that stop us All in all very enjoyable

No mini fridge

Just up the road is the open moorland on which you can take good walks and exercise your dog...perfect.The team were extremely customer focused trying hard to ensure all expectations were met. The lady who manages all this is clearly well experienced, leads by hard work and setting an example which is a very high standard for her team to follow. She is to be congratulated on their success.My steak in the evening was accurately cooked, tender and flavoursome.

Friendly staff and good beer.

In spite of booking through Booking.com and having received confirmation from both the agency and the accommodation with whom I'd had a conversation about my booking we weren't expected. If the room we'd booked really was the 'deluxe double' I'm pleased we didn't book the standard double! We were informed that we would be the last to occupy that room as it was being 'ripped out and refurbished' after our departure - perhaps that is why areas of the room had not been cleaned for (judging from the accumulation of dust and cobwebs) more than several weeks. The bathroom was cramped with some of the more inaccessible areas distinctly dirty. The publicised 'landmark view' was the pub car park and the church's entrance- which for some reason may be very well known in that locality.Staying in what we knew to be a 200 year old coaching inn , you expect some restrictions on possible modernisation, but this was the nearest I've been to being in early Victorian historical re-enactment. Disappointing to say the least.

We werent sure what to expect having read some less than average reviews - what we got was friendly staff, good pub food & a more than adequate breakfast. The room was cosy however, comfortable & clean. It was good value for the price!

Good location, staff were lovely, the rooms are seperate from the pub so the noise is very minimum

Room was dusty and dirty with spiders in spider webs above the bed, the walls are so thin you can hear everything from other guests, shower was borderline unusable as it kept going from boiling hot to freezing cold, if you don't drive there is no shops nearby.

Extremely flexible arrangements, friendly staff and very pleasant breakfast

Unfortunately, hot water failed to appear but the shower was electric so, no major complaints

Very private away from the pub itself

Had to walk through where the bins were to get to our room once pub was closed. Not ideal to be fair.
