Pros +
- Characterful old property, very comfortable beds and lovely grounds.
- It was in a great location for what we needed. It was lovely inside with the stain glass windows. We had a lovely meal on the evening but breakfast was all dried up
- all perfect, good food and comfortable bed and helpful staff
Cons -
- Breakfast was a little disappointing, a very standard buffet, although the details provided in the room said hot options like salmon and eggs or eggs benedict were offered. Unfortunately, this was not available due to the kitchen preparing for a wedding, although we were not told about this in advance and the staff seemed confused about what exactly was available.
- The first room we had the door kept banging everytime a staff member walked past. They moved us to another room but the bed was small and no view from window.
- the rooms were noisy , i could hear the person next door get up at 5.30 am !!

Lovely hotel in beautiful gardens. Staff were very attentive and couldn’t do enough for you. Delicious dinner and breakfast !
The only issue we had were with the bed and pillows in the room ! The bed sloped on both sides and pillows were hard making a good night’s sleep difficult. Room was lovely and had all the amenities you needed though
The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was very good with a variety of everything.Birds were singing.Dinner was delicious.
Bathroom shower door had a bit of mold on.And water was cold.
Great location for a music gig in Darwen centre. Staff friendly.
A relaxed atmosphere with friendly staff. Wonderful grounds, perfect for relaxing in, though it was raining and I had to drive on.
I was by myself in the room. The room would have felt a bit small if there were 2 of us, but maybe it was a single room anyway?
Very helpful staff. Comfy bed, slept really well. Room was decorated to match the style of the property and the bathroom was beautiful. Had an amazing bathtub. Loads of food choices at breakfast.
Bed was on castors and kept moving!
Friendly staff, very nice food, and a comfortable bed.
Nothing, we would definitely stop here again.
Clean and comfortable room, lovely looking grounds, initial great old world charm
It's a wedding venue first and foremost, and that must be remembered, so the other guests were suspicious of us and made us feel quite unwelcome
Very disappointed. We have been for many meals here and expected so much better rooms. The bathroom decoration is very outdated. The room was very cold, however the manager kindly brought an additional duvet and boosted the heating. There was no freeview available on, you had to watch Netflix etc which is ok but sometimes I like to just watch normal tv. We didn’t have breakfast here.
Prior to arriving I was notified there was a wedding taking place and my room would be 'away' from it.On arrival I felt that my check in was a hindrance. My room was at the front, over the entrance and I heard them packing things into a van after midnight.Breakfast buffet disappointing, although lady in charge was lovely.
We were attending a wedding and feel the team were excellent on the day. The wedding meal was good and the room well adorned. We had a lovely time.
Breakfast the next morning was not as good. The staff seemed disinterested and we had to wait for food and coffee. Several wedding guests did not get any food at all including the bride and groom. Breakfast timing is early and ends by 9.30am which on a day that the clocks move forward is a bit harsh. I got the last hash brown 25 minutes before service ended but it was cold.
All good a great old place lots of old charm and character A bit squeaky on the floors but great food was fab and drinks great
Lovely setting. Staff were nice. Food was nice. Bed was comfortable.
Nice old house with some atmosphere. Convenient location for walks on the Darwen moors.Big bed.
Everything was fine. The lane up to the hotel from the main road is rather potholed, but its a shared road and I know that getting maintenance done on those is a nightmare.
Amazing placeGreat staff, very helpful and welcoming. Great value for the money. Great food
Very lovely stay as always. We had a meal in the restaurant on Saturday evening which was amazing. However, the older gentleman who served us was very abrupt and rude. No, please, or thank you, we thought this was very out of character for the staff. He may have been having an off night.
Friendly staff, upgraded room, comfortable bed, solid wifi.
Room smelled of cigarette smoke.
Very friendly staff and very clean - food was good - we were there for a wedding which was very well presented - great to see toiletries in the gents ?
Just a few minor attention to detail things - master of ceremony had a lovely red tail coat but unfortunately had a completely mismatched shirt and tie - the cane chair I was on in the ceremony was really wobbly and had a missing cross support fortunately I am not over heavy - some the seats at breakfast were marked
