    Pros +

    • Farington Lodge remains my favourite hotel and, eschewing all offers from other places I have stayed, I have chosen to spend my birthday at Farington for a few years now. The staff are so friendly and accommodating. Nothing is too much trouble and the breakfasts are excellent, as are any of the meals otherwise. The chef is extremely talented and creative. The classic rooms in the original part of the building are spacious and airy. You have to ask for a classic room to experience the period features for which Farington Lodge is famous, although all the rooms are very nice. Farington's tariff is low compared with hotels of comparable grandeur and amenities because commercial trade features largely in the custom but this in no way disaccommodates other guests. As well as period features in the old part of the Lodge, the grounds are beautiful, and parking is free and very conveniently situated, making Farington Lodge a popular choice for weddings, Christenings and other similar gatherings of various sizes. Staying at Farington Lodge is an all round very pleasant and uplifting experience and choosing Farington Lodge for a stay, of any length, is highly recommended.
    • The staff is excellent. And the food was exceptional. The room was big and very clean.
    • Love all the period features and the grounds of this hotel. All the staff make you feel at home. The room was a good size and the bathroom was huge. It’s was also warm and cosy for a winters visit.

    Cons -

    • A lift for disabled guests might be useful, subject to grading restrictions.
    • Evening meal for my husband. Should have been gammon but too much fat on it
    • Breakfast could be a bit later for leisure travellers.

Good breakfast and afternoon tea.My husband was very disappointed with his evening meal. I was eating out so didn't see. I told him he should have said something but he didn't.Other than that everything else fine

Evening meal for my husband. Should have been gammon but too much fat on it

Lovely hotel. Friendly staff. Good breakfast

Breakfast could be a bit later for leisure travellers.

The staff in the hotel are superb

Although the overall cleanliness was excellent, there were stains on the carpet by the bin in the room we were in this time which were off-putting.

We love the location, it's absolutely perfect for visiting family. The hotel itself is beautiful with lots of lovely features and grounds and parking. The staff are friendly and welcoming and the breakfasts are very nice. A fab place to be to celebrate my Birthday with family with a lovely side room all to ourselves. We'll definitely return.

Fantastic hospitality and very dog friendly. Grounds were good for walking dogs. Food was good and they were able to cope with our dietary requirements.

Breakfast is great but finishes a too early during a holiday period

    The pillows are horrendous

    8JudithPosted on: 12-27-2025

Great value for money. Location was great for our needs. Traditional style hotel. The grounds were lovely and the whole place has a welcoming feel. Friendly staff.

A little dated but it wasnt bad. More old fashioned than worn out but that was also part of the charm. I felt it was a shame that it was utilised to its full potential

    9PaulPosted on: 12-25-2025

Although built in 1830 it’s worn very well. Rooms are huge , warm and comfortable. We would certainly recommend it.

Only downside is no lift. So it was a bit difficult as we are at the older end of life . It wouldn’t put us off staying again.

    8KerryPosted on: 12-24-2025

It was a beautiful property but a bit tired. However good value for money. Staff super helpful. Accomodating a pet was a bonus.

Not a lot really. If it was updated a bit it would be an amazing property.

This was our third visit. Exceptionally dog friendly. Lovely well trained and genuinely helpful team. Very comfy bed and large room. Thank you

    6JohnPosted on: 12-19-2025

I liked the setting and the gardens

A lot more effort required in terms of quality staff. The building facilities need some TLC and the menu needs attention.

    10AlastairPosted on: 12-18-2025

Spacious, classy, full of character, clean & well maintained.

    10Kaz69Posted on: 12-14-2025

A lovely friendly, warm welcome with lovely staff throughout our stay. Perfect location for spending time with family and having them come spend time with us including a lovely Birthday Breakfast in a private room.

    8JoePosted on: 12-14-2025

Staff very nice and attentive and couldn't do enough for you, only drawback was the hear in the room and small uncomfortable bed, otherwise no other complaints

Room very hot, and bed was not big enough

    10GlynPosted on: 12-9-2025

A beautiful old building, full of character and history - apparently once belonging to the owners of the Leyland Trucks empire. The staff were incredible! Welcoming, professional and completely focused on providing a superb stay.

There was nothing I didn't like, but if you're expecting a swish modern place, this isn't that.Think 'Upstairs Downstairs' with a side order of 'Downton Abbey' and you won't be disappointed.
