Pool closed half way through the week because of winter?

Very clean and good breakfast with nice pool. Beautiful hotel .
Only niggle sort out the neglected terrace. ash trays overflowing and weeds in the cracks.
The location
The rooms need updating, the patio was full of weeds and un kept, plants not cared for, staff pleasant enough but didn't have a clue, the room was to hot, parking was diabolical.
Good location
The property feels really old, the floor cracks a lot when you move and the door needed a lot of work to open and close it. The lock was a bit broken so it took us a while to open our room everyday. We told the staff to help us but nothing much was done, we had to deal with it. The pool are was not really well maintained, but overall it was decent.
The staff were friendly and very helpful, even allowing us to store suitcases when we got there early so we could go off and explore before our check in time. The room was clean and roomy for a twin, and tea and coffee were restocked each day.The pool was fantastic a little deep for shorter people ? but fantastic for a little wind down time and open until 8pm. Breakfast was at a reasonable time , nice choice of items , staff willing to help if you had any problems. We were able to come and go as we pleased which was nice We enjoyed our stay here.
Lovely location, near the front, town centre not too far away providing you went the right way of course. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the meals were good , covered to keep warm with lids unlike some other hotels that leave them open to the elements. There were not too many people in the hotel so looking after the customers wasn't hard for the staff. Having said that, they still went out of their way. This is my one of many visits to Torquay and I was caught in 1995 by the mysterious water bug that recurs in Torquay, so I made sure to use bottled water for my teeth, not tap water. Just a precaution I took, once bitten twice shy. I did it in the Canaries as well so perhaps it was just myself. Certainly no sign of that this time, and I've been to Torquay many times since, so it's all good. As I have a bus pass now travel was easy. All the same I went on the train to Barnstaple and back for under a tenner, (with senior Railcard), the trains may not be the most modern but they have an old feel to them that appeals to me, modern is not always the best. But so cheap it's unreal. I wish it was that cheap around my way (Cambridgeshire), but some chance near London !
The window in my room couldn't be opened or closed from its original position. As it was hot I wanted to open it further for which I needed an unfindable key. Didn't spend that much time in my room so didn't get around to doing much about it but I'm sure the staff would have done something if asked. Also the carpet in the breakfast room I nearly caught with my foot and went flying, it had folded over, nearly had me over a couple of times. Perhaps a bit of double sided tape underneath would prevent that, other than that just had to be careful where I trod carrying a plate with food. Again I didn't bring this up, just forgot by the time I had eaten I suppose, as I didn't actually fall over, thank God. But this sort of stuff is common anywhere so I didn't make a fuss.
Insect room mates
Asked for a second fan for my partner and got called 'Sir' straight away by the young madame on the desk.. And in that way where you made a little mistake! Then found an insect infestation. No clue about costumer service I'm afraid and creepy crawlies but galore.
It was actually the Grand Hotel not Abbey Sands, which had transferred my booking over for their own reasons. The Grand Hotel was large and stately, with big bathrooms and a nice atmosphere. Close to the promenade with undercover parking available
Some noise from the railway station next door
The hotel bar was wonderful with a local beer on. Plus the staff were helpful and polite.
Bathroom door was falling apart, was not possible to shut it properly.Gym/Spa had shattered glass in door frames and mirrors.
Good food, cooked to order. Really comfortable beds. Great location
Exceptional
BREAKFAST WAS AWFUL, but them i'm a healthy living vegan, so not going to enjoy fry ups.. not much in the way of decent cereals etc.
Was only there for 1 night but definitely want to go and stay for longer. Wish there was on site parking or a way that you can receipt the parking costs as it is expensive and at a premium too.Room was absolutely lovely, great view across the bay. Reception were friendly and helpful too. Looked like there was plenty of choice for breakfast however, sadly we had to leave before sun up.Check in and out was very easy too.
Could not adjust the room heating and it was boiling. Rather that then being freezing though. We had a balcony but to get on to it you had to open window and climb out others less able than me may struggle.
Property is nice and clean
The heating was not working and was no hot water to have a shower,as we arrived late.Next day some one come to fix it.
Difficult to comment. It was closed for the winter. Got transferred to their sister hotel
I can not give an accurate review of this hotel as they closed it down for the winter before our stay and put us up at the Grand Hotel instead. That, however, was lovely.
This hotel was a little further away from the show we were there to see.
Staff were friendly
Tired room with poor bathroom
Staff, staff, staff, staff ! Just wonderful people that make you feel at home as soon as you enter the hotel. Our room looked dated, but we found comfortable and airy with a lovely view of the sea. Spoilt for choice at breakfast time, but shame dinner not being served. This is by far the best hotel we have visited so far and would recommend to everybody.
The exterior looks a little tatty in places, but we did visit at the end of season.
Lovely hotel,I had booked a double room and we were kindly upgraded to the most lovely room,it was very spacious and there was a nice big smart tv and a bath/shower which was nice as most places seem to just have showers these days.great location only a short walk to amenities. Unfortunately we didn’t get to use the swimming facilities as we didn’t pack swimwear stupidly!very clean and tidy and beautifully decorated rooms
Nothing not to like everything was perfect
