    Pros +

    • Durnstein is a spectacular place to visit and staying here is super special. It's right next to the blue steeple so I looks beautiful day and night. The patio is stunning, also day and night, the food is fantastic, and the service in the restaurant is wonderful.
    • Breakfast was excellent. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Love the history surrounding the hotel and the many paintings and artifacts inside the hotel. Loved the villages and nearby hikes.
    • The location in Durnstein town was great. The rooms were very large, clean and comfortable. Staff was friendly. Breakfast buffet was excellent. Provided free parking, which otherwise would not have been easy in town.

    Cons -

    • Little things: safety deposit box on the floor rather than at an accessible level; no mini fridge; no wine glasses in room; difficulty in moderating room temperature; couldn't leave window open because of wasps in the bush beside the window
    • We had a slightly bigger car rental, so had to be a little careful navigating streets and parking. Not a big issue at all, but the one thing that comes to mind. Nothing the hotel can really do about that given the geometry of the town and buildings.
    • there is nothing that I did not like , on the contrary,

This is a truly special property. Beautiful historic building and gardens. Outstanding customer service. The dinner in the restaurant was lovely. Truly a gem of a find, we will be back!

    6JeniPosted on: 8-18-2025

The staff was lovely. We had a very yummy vegan meal for dinner, and our waiter Kevin was AMAZING. The town was really beautiful, and the hotel grounds were stunning. The hotel rooms were boring. It has so much potential to be a beautiful historic hotel; I wanted to fall in love with it, but the room was underwhelming.

The room was boring and very hot. A small fan was provided, but it needed to actually work to do any good. There is so much potential for this to be a beautiful historic hotel.

Beautiful historic property filled with period pieces to honor its past. The facilities are updated though for your comfort! We ate dinner in the restaurant overlooking the Danube and it was wonderful. Breakfast was amazing too. Each room in the hotel is a treat: the restaurant, breakfast room, lobby, and halls. The location is just steps from the church, the start of the trail up to the castle and the cruise drop off if you come by boat (which I recommend, we took the DSGG from Krems and continued on to Melk the next day).

The shower went from hot to cold and back randomly, but older plumbing is to be expected in a historic old hotel!

This was a historic old property. Part of it dated back to the 1200’s! Located centrally in the sweet little village of Dürnstein. The walls and hallways were filled with antiques and paintings telling of its heritage. The restaurant was wonderful and overlooked the Danube. There was also a lovely breakfast. The staff was kind and even accommodated us coming a day earlier than we’d originally planned.

The shower water was either hot or cold. There was no in between and it could change without even touching the temp but these things aren’t unusual with old and historic properties. We didn’t mind but if thats an issue for you as a traveler, it might be a thing or it may have just been our room.

Charming, historical, magnificent location plus the friendliest staff I’ve ever encounter in Austria. Wonderful breakfast and great meals. A true gem!

We love that place. Very helpful staff and great location, delicious breakfast, fantastic area with breathtaking views!

Some ants in the room, but this is just being close to nature

Beautiful, historic hotel, tastefully furnished with antiquesexcellent locationexcellent breakfast excellent staffBeautiful garden and view

the mattress was very saggy and uncomfortable on one side of the bed.

The view of the Danube from our room was spectacular! The hotel is very historic and a fun place to stay in Durnstein. Breakfast was wonderful. We enjoyed the pool on a warm day.

The room was on the smaller side. The vending machine was not replenished so there wasn't anywhere to buy snacks or drinks afterhours.

Cleanliness, exceptional hotel set up, excellent room confort (beds, pillows, bathroom, amenities), very kind staff, super breakfast and super good resturant

    9SandraPosted on: 9-15-2024

Location was perfect and Dürnstein is absolutely beautiful, would 100% return! Hotel was great, the pool was wonderful and the lounge area outside. We also dined in the hotel restaurant and the waiter we had (older gentleman) as absolutely great! A very quiet sleep. You can count on this not being a partying hotel so you'll get a great nights sleep. Fan also in room.

It is an old hotel, true to it's age so if you like this kind of stay then this is for you.

a monastery converted into a hotel and feels opulent with dated furniture and ambience.Staffs are extrremely helpful and do thier best to help:kudos to them.Excellent location, with parking and windows open out with a view of the danube.clean rooms, good bathrooms and comfortable beds

no coffee maker in the rooms and had to ask for it, no fridge either.feels a llittle desolate. reception and door close at 9 pm or so ad have to use the room key to get out.restaurant is closed except for a sparse breakfast.depsite these, will stay with them again: the hotel, thier staff( such sweet people) and location is that good

    7TalidaPosted on: 8-14-2024

Excellent location, though access can be a bit challenging. However, the free parking is a nice perk! The staff is friendly, but it would be helpful to have more information available in English beforehand. Unfortunately, there’s no air conditioning in the rooms, and during our stay in mid-August, it was extremely hot. The room was clean, though the beds were not particularly comfortable.

    Location.

    10JadziaPosted on: 8-7-2024

Everything.. a lovely treat to stay at this beautiful historic hotel. Stunning views of the Danube, thoroughly enjoyed.

Would be nice to have tea and coffee facilities in the room

    9SergeyPosted on: 8-5-2024

Overall - great: the quality of the rooms, the building, the place, the garden and restaurants, the people. The breakfast was really good. Own parking is a great advantage.

No air conditioning - they warn about it thoroughly. But end of July was really hot.

    10MuchitschPosted on: 7-18-2024

This hotel has it all! It is beautiful, historic, clean, perfectly located in the lovely Dürnstein, the pool and gardens are amazing and peaceful and most of all: every single member of the staff is truly wonderful, helpful, friendly and I cannot say enough good things about them all. Their wine cellar has some great whites from the Wachau and the restaurant with the terrace overlooking the Danube is fantastic!
