- Set in one of the most beautiful villages in world
- This property is set up on a hill next to an old church. Right down the road is a perfect little town. Great spot to relax.
- Friendlynessy of staff woman. Cleanliness and opted for the breakfast which was excellent. Surroundings and views magnificent!
Cons -
- Tiny room not as described. Really bad smell from drains which the hotel was aware of from previous reviews . Although we booked two nights we stayed only one as we could not cope with a tiny room with miniature tv and wifi that didn't work . Even the bed wasn't a full width or full length double. Having worked with plumbing for 15 years this was a fairly basic problem that could be fixed easily, no respect for guests.
- The host was incredibly kind and the entire hotel was charming.

All great
Great staff, cozy rooms and location and view.
The fragrance in the air outside the hotel was enchanting. We liked the location and the room was a good size. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
Parking was a challenge the first night as there was an event in town and all the parking lots were full. Not so bad the next night. The shower was leaky and the bathroom tap was loose.
Really cosy house, nice design, attention to many small details. Very tasty breakfast cooked a la minute. Nice small terrace, old church right next door. Very friendly, professional and helpful ladies team running the house.
Very small bed and overall very small room, toilet separated with glass wall is a bit too less privacy. Also, our room was in the ground floor, right next to reception, so it was quite noisy in the morning.
Excellent attention. Maider, the recepcionist accompanies us everytime and help us in whatever needing. Lovely bedrooms and natural and creative decoration.Highly recommended to those looking for calm in the heart of Euskadi
Amazing breakfast - Comfortable room - nice decor - friendly host
Privacy of the toilet, it’s a glass wall
Super cute and tasteful looking house. They showed us the room, gave advise on what to do and it is possible to have a drink out of the communal fridge and pay when leaving. Surrounding town has great views, authentic place.
Beautifully decorated. Warm welcome. Ideally located for exploring the region.
Well maintained
Leaking downspouts caused a lot of noise during heavy rain
Location was very close to town and the scenery was beautiful
They did not provide evening meal for guests but did for local meetings nothing available in the village so has to travel
Reception and service during stay were exceptionally kind and effective. Breakfast was very good, the room interestingly organized and very confortable.
Really enjoyed our stay here.Uxue on reception was so friendly, helpful and welcoming, really made our 4 day stay wonderful. As previous reviews have mentioned, the hotel is really a B&b with about 8 rooms. This means there's no one around in the evening and no restaurant (and nothing is open in the pretty village of Garai) so it's 10 mins drive and then somewhat challenging parking to the large town of Durango which is very a locals town.Parking at the hotel is free but about 100 meters up a zigzag slope to get to the hotel. (You can drive up to the hotel to load your cases).Breakfast was extra (8 euros pp) and was nice but identical each day.I think for a shorter stay (1 or 2 days) then this is a brilliant hotel.
Rooms are very stylish (exposed brick work), bathrooms have opaque glass walls but don't offer much privacy and for two people with two cases, the rooms are smallish with minimal storage so it was a juggle to find floor space for them. As others have said, there's also little sound insulation so you won't be sleeping in.
Very comfortable accommodation. Room was spacious and well designed with quality fittings.Breakfast was lovely and great value. The gentle donging of the next door church bell each half hour from 7am to midnight was a surprise, but turned out to not be intrusive.
Cosy and very nicely decorated rooms in an amazing quiet location. The entire rural house is very beautiful. Very good breakfast with a nice view. Uxue was very friendly and helpful and made us feel like home.
The room was beautiful, breakfast was amazing and Irune, was the most wonderful hostess. She was so incredibly helpful in planning our days and worked so hard to make everything about our stay perfect!!!
The town of Garai is very quiet this time of year. There was no place in town open for dinner. Durango was not too far but it would be nice to have dinner available to all guests at the hotel.
I had an amazing stay at Garaiko Landetxea. It’s a beautiful accommodation. Modern, comfortable and situated in a quiet town surrounded by nature and magical views of the mountains. On top of that, the staff was brilliant. Jasone and Irune are very kind and go the extra mile. I was offered to lend Jasone her mountain bike since I wanted to do some cycling. They also provided a very good dinner on my arrival date. The breakfast was great as well and is prepared with the utmost care and attention to detail. I was given good recommendations for my day trip to Bilbao as well as recommendations for places to eat in Durango. It was simply perfect. Would love to come back in the future!
Beautiful place remote and enjoyable
The bathroom does not alllow any privacy…
What a treat to stay at this amazing place in the quaint village of Garai, just above the larger town of Durango. Staff is incredible (thanks to Olatz for warm welcome and Irune for delicious breakfast and excellent tips on sites in the area!). Rooms are very cozy, we had amazing views of the mountains. The entire hotel is decorated so tastefully. We highly recommend the Herriko restaurant in town, a short stroll from hotel. Garai is an excellent base to explore the Basque region.
