    Pros +

    • Everything. From the service, the room, the decor, the breakfast and the e amazing view of the chateau!
    • Phenomenal gardensThe restaurant was a disappointment because of the mosquitoes and the ugly cafeteria style lighting. Their staff is grossly overworked and unhappy.
    • The breakfast was superb. The staff were very nice. our meal at the restaurant was wonderful. i am very interested i art and the chateaux's art exhibition was amazing and a complete suprise. We really enjoyed our walk around the gardens on our own in the morning. looking forward to trying your wine at christmas. We bought a case.

    Cons -

    • absolutely nothing
    • Nothing! If we had to comment, the buffet breakfast probably wasn’t the best but still very nice with local produce and quite a bit of choice
    • I wasn’t a fan of how busy the property is- when I arrived there was a garden market which made it extremely busy to visit the castle and the garden. I decided to wait until the morning to visit the garden and was so serene - until a group of school aged children were admitted. I wasn’t expecting the property to be so commercial, although I know it’s important to bring in revenue it really dampened the stay. I also felt a bit clasterphobic in the rooms not being able to open any windows, and it was quite dark.

Beautiful location, lovely room, excellent customers service from Samual and Anna and in the restaurant, Barbara. Great stay, good breakfast, well presented and fresh.

We’ve stayed in a few chateaux in the Loire but Rivau was exceptional as it allows you to visit the gardens after it closes to the public and before it opens. Your stay also provides free entry to the chateau. The rooms are stunning and very comfortable.

It was a very authentic stay in a castle property. I can tell the owners put in alot of work into ensuring the property was preserved to the medeival times. The gardens are so beautiful, and a relaxing walk through the gardens while I stayed made the visit.

Very warm welcome. One-of-a-kind setting -- sleeping and being treated like chateau owners. The castle and its gardens are so inviting for a relaxing time. There is a nice gastronomic restaurant on the spot.

    Absolutely nothing.

Atmosphere, historical furniture, silence, excellent restaurant.

    Good but average breakfast.

the setting, the restaurant, the gardens, the room itself.

no bar, no mini-bar even, no television in room, no milk in room, breakfast was a little meagre, car park was a little too far from property ( esp. when arriving initially).

Gorgeous traditional looking French chateau which has been sympathetically restored with contemporary touches. The gardens were a real bonus and very interesting to look round. We loved our room which was very spacious and comfortable. Excellent meal in the restaurant with great service.

The Chateau is stunning and the grounds magical. It has a real fairytale feel to it. The food was excellent in the gastronomic restaurant as well. We loved our visit and would definitely visit again.

It would have been helpful to have been given clear directions for how to find the chateau. Our Sat Nav took us to the wrong (locked) entrances. For anyone visiting - don’t turn off until you reach the turning at traffic lights. Then you will find it easily.

The chateau is unbelievably good; it is just like a dream: a fairytale. We arrived late and were guided to the secret garden restaurant. What an astonishing location for a restaurant within the castle. The food was the best food we have enjoyed in France and all the better for the beautiful location. Service was incredible. The chateau accommodation was a delight and magical. This is top class accommodation with incredible views of the main chateau building. The breakfast was excellent. Overall, a high quality stay in a magical, fairytale chateau. The owners have clearly taken great care to make the chateau perfect. Thank you so much.

We cannot fault anything. It was perfect.

It is rare to arrive at a property and find that it looks even better than it did online. The chateau is truly stunning, the gardens are beautiful, the room and bathroom were beautifully appointed and everything was of the highest quality. The bedrooms themselves are in the converted stables, with views over the chateau and garden (photo is of our view). The materials used in the conversion are outstanding and the owners’ taste and vision are apparent everywhere.

The internet was a public Wi-Fi and hard to log into. For future guests to be aware, it is not a hotel but rather an extremely high end B and B!

location and the grounds. The castle and history

    restaurant closed

    8EmmaPosted on: 8-14-2022

beautiful location. rooms were of a good standard. great for a couple of nights

no options to get a drink once the castle closed to visitors.

    9JeffreyPosted on: 8-8-2022

The location was very convenient and the food and presentation was fantastic.

It was a little difficult to find the entrance at first and if there was a small pool that would have been wonderful to relax after touring during the day, especially since we were experiencing a heat wave.

    9NeilPosted on: 7-21-2022

Very welcoming and helpful staff. The setting and buildings are beautiful - a privilege to stroll in the gardens with only the peacocks for company!. Breakfast is astonishingly good. Really hot weather but the AC is brilliant and quiet and the bed very comfortable. Our bike rental as arranged by the staff worked very well and the green cycle route is very close.

Just a pity that the restaurant is closed early in the week. Chinon is a bit of a drive away for alternative restaurants

    10MatthijsPosted on: 7-18-2022

The chateau was incredible. the rooms were very well decorated and the staff was so friendly. Gastronomic restaurant also very good value. would come back anytime and advise any of my friends / family to make a stop here

    9JohnPosted on: 6-12-2022

The hotel forms part of the château with access to the gardens even when closed to the general public. Only seven rooms so no overcrowding and great breakfast.

Just be aware that the restaurant is open from Wednesday evening so as in our case we had to look for alternative solutions for Sunday to Tuesday.
