We booked last minute a local hotel as we were travelling from Italy to England. We were given our key and asked if we wanted to book a table for dinner. We showered and changed and had a walk around the lovely town of Barr. When we returned to our booked table, the restaurant was full. It was popular as the food was great. The room was very hot, at the end of August, but they opened the window and closed the shutters to keep it cool. Also, a fan was provided, half way through the night, I turned it off as it was noisy. We had a comfortable bed, so we both slept, albeit the pillows were strange, square and flat, I will in future pack one from home.Breakfast wasn't the best, sour milk, which was eventually changed after another couple also pointed it out. The rest was okay, but nothing seemed chilled, warm orange juice, etc, so we checked out and headed off

A very old traditional hotel in the heart of town. Friendly staff and a very nice room. Perfect for staying in Barr and enjoying the Saturday market.

The location in Barr was lovely. It is like a Bavarian town.

Upon arrival a very curt lady was less than pleased with us. We were told that the restaurant was closed without any explanation. This was primarily why the hotel was booked. It was a Sunday and after travelling from Italy we just wanted to be able to eat where we were staying. The rooms were ok though there was no bottled water or a kettle or any tea making facilities. My partner asked why the restaurant was closed and if there was anywhere else and was told the rest of the town was open. It was NOT. We spent a good hour trying to locate a restaurant to eat in which we luckily did. Upon our return to go to bed we had exceptionally noisy neighbours who we had to tell to be quiet at 0200 hrs. After a fitful sleep breakfast was ok. Though for 13 Euros each bread and cheese and fruit doesn’t really cut it.

It was perfect for our stopover on our way to Italy. It’s in the centre of a beautiful town with plenty of restaurants to choose from.

The bedroom was very hot and stuffy. A fan was supplied which was better than nothing but air conditioning is really needed in the hotter months so you can get a decent night’s sleep optional extra

    the location

small room and on 3 floor or some call it 2 floor no air conditioning can’t park because market in morning we did find later internet not working in room

Great location in the centre of Barr. We had a large bathroom and the size of the room was good.

The staff could be friendlier. The lady at the reception was on a private phone call (on speaker) when we arrived and quickly sorted us out while staying on her call. The room and bathroom could do with a renovation.

Our room seemed to be totally renovated recently. It was spacious and clean. The bed was very comfortable. The staff are very friendly. The breakfast offered was excellent.

    Location was excellent

We both felt that the bed needs replacing it dipped in middle therefore was difficult sleeping.

Right in the middle of the village - when waking up on saturday morning the Saturday market was going on all around the hotel, quite a nice experience. Has its own parking with sufficient space,, which is a must with this location. Staff was friendly and the restaurant well worth a visit.

Charming and cozy place to stay on Alsacia’s heart. The stuff were very nice and helpful.

    Good value

Beds were uncomfortable. No air conditioning or ceiling fans.

    8CeliaPosted on: 8-8-2021

We ate a lovely breakfast by the window watching the community setting up a street art exhibition.

The order in which breakfast was delivered to table fruit juice I feel should be offered when the coffee order is taken not after breakfast had been served.

    The location

5:00 pm Check in which is ridiculous by any standards. Doors were locked. At 5:10 I started knocking and someone from the kitchen came and told me to wait “5 minutes.” Seriously? At 5:10 pm with a 3 year old in tow? Anyway, finally, around 520 a nice woman arrived and checked us in. Room 7 was austere but very clean. Had a twin bed and a double bed. We walked to the little canal area and had a wonderful dinner. Breakfast was fine albeit the woman serving - very nice - couldn’t speak a word of English. But it worked and was good (10€) each person. At check out at 10:00 am we were charged again for our room which I had already paid for on Booking.com. Again, no one could speak English. I showed them the booking.com confirmation of payment and my bank statement on line showing the charge but were again told to “wait ten minutes”. Finally, I put the Euros on the counter minus the double charged room amount and proceeded to leave- 20 minutes after beginning the check out process. Finally, now someone arrives and says OK. To sum it up, decent, basic hotel in a good spot. Terrible organization and a ridiculously late check in time.

Generally a good location in Barr.

Check in only possible from 5:00pm onwards which was a pain!
