Pros +
- The staff and service were outstanding. We were greeted at the entrance and all of our needs were attended to. The dinner was exceptional. The building itself and the grounds are lovely.
- The breakfast buffet was very good.
- It’s a beautiful park adjacent to a pond and a wooded area with deer. Beautifully renovated, well maintained, and stunning. Nice restaurant, wonderful food and superb service. Free EV charging on premises.
Cons -
- There is a sewage odor that permeated the hotel. Some areas were worse than others. The first room we were taken to was so bad, the manager immediately said he would find us a different room. The next room was slightly better but still smelled of sewage.
- The room was small and our bed was smaller than requested.Upon departure, we were charged €35 for the gift package that we didn't request which was in our room upon arrival.
- The pool was more for people cooling off and perfecting the leisurely float than for swimming but, it was nice. A Counter-current system would be a great idea here.

An absolutely beautiful place to stay the chateau and its grounds are excellent The staff were so helpful and efficient Definitely a 5?recommendation from us
Something to work..
The bathroom didn’t have a good smell;More management for the recharge of the cars’ clients ;The products of the bathroom were used by other clients before and not new
We received a very warm welcome from the delightful and charming members of staff. Our bags were taken up to our room, which was very clean and comfortable, and had everything we needed. We had an excellent night's sleep. Breakfast was also very good and the breakfast room has lovely views looking across to Chateauneuf-en-Auxois. The bar area is very cosy and we enjoyed a lovely glass of champagne in front of the fire. Unfortunately we didn't dine at Sainte-Sabine as we had already had a big lunch with friends, but hopefully another time. I heard a member of staff discussing the menu options with a vegetarian and they went to great lengths to ensure she had the best dining experience. A great location for visiting local areas of interest such as Chateauneuf-en-Auxois, Chateau de Commarin and the Canal de Bourgogne. A place I would definitely come back to.
The scrambled egg. It was very 'crumbly'. Disappointing for a hotel like this. However, everything else was very good.
Ideal location, good equipped rooms, delicious breakfast
It will be good to have down or feathers pillow in the room
Setting, historic building, attention to detail, understated luxury
We liked everything about the property - especially the staff and management - so kind and warm and welcoming! Thank you Crystal, Phillipe, Christoph, Laura, Angelica, Cilian, and the entire Chateau Sainte Sabine team. We had a wonderful 30th anniversary celebration thanks to the team. Gorgeous comfortable room and delicious outstanding dinner and breakfast! Stunning setting too! Bravo Brava!
Our stay at the château was exceptional. The room was very comfortable, and the castle itself is stunningly beautiful, surrounded by a lovely garden, pond, and pool. The on-site restaurant was fantastic for dinner. We enjoyed everything about our experience!

It is a beautiful castle & fabulous location.
We thought there could be more choice in the restaurant if you stay for longer than a night & quite expensive. We ventured out locally which was great.
Stunning castle, rooms, and garden. Great service and warm staff that were very accommodating of me being on my own with a toddler.
Food could be better. My dinner was a bit bland, to be honest (lacking dimension). The breakfast buffet, though, was spectacular.
Overpromised and underdelivered
**Overpromised and Underdelivered**I don’t usually write hotel reviews, but I felt i had to share my experience due to the surprisingly high ratings this hotel and its restaurant have received, especially given its association with the Relais & Châteaux chain. To be fair, the stay wasn’t entirely disappointing, so I’ll start with a few pros that align with what one would expect from a hotel of this ilk:**Pros:**- **Reception Staff:** very welcoming, helpful, and friendly. The waiting staff were also skilled and diligent, clearly taking pride in their work.- **Cleanliness:** The rooms, hotel, and grounds were spotlessly clean.- **Setting:** The historic location, proximity to Château Neuf, and the surrounding grounds were impressive.- **Quality Ingredients:** The produce and ingredients were of high quality and the food presentation was highly stylized and immaculately presented.**Cons:**- **The Restaurant:** Despite the glowing reviews, the dining experience was disappointing. We initially considered the tasting menus but opted for a starter and main course after the amuse-bouche hinted at what was to come. The cheese choux pastry, crab mousse, and foie gras were heavy, dry, and overly salty. The appetiser, a chicken thigh with a white wine mousse, was similarly unbalanced—rich but with a bitter, soapy aftertaste that didn’t complement the dish. My pea gnocchi starter was bland and cloying, with an overly sweet tomato gel. My partner’s girolles were drowned in the same unappealing white wine foam. The mains, chicken for me and veal for my partner, were well-cooked but overwhelmed by excessive salt. Both came with more foam. Neither of us finished our meals. Unjustifiable given the high price tag.- **Atmosphere and Decor:** The restaurant’s atmosphere was perplexing. We expected to dine in the historic stone cellar mentioned in our booking but were instead seated in a characterless 90s-style function room.
Beautiful grounds and building. The team were fantastic and the beds super comfortable and spacious rooms, dog bed and bowls provided. They accommodated my gluten free diet easily. Will definitely return.
Champagne at breakfast! I would say this hotel is family friendly, there were plenty of family’s there during our stay, and sausage dogs! 9 minutes drive to chateau neuf, stunning village well worth a visit.
No milk in the bedroom
Château Sainte Sabine has all the amenities you would expect in a hotel. Excellent meals and great property atmosphere.
Staff tried to upsell me: Claiming I would be required to change rooms for one night of my stay. They recommended that I stay in one of their special rooms that was twice the price to avoid this inconvenience. I ignored their upsell technique and I wasn’t required to change rooms.
Magnificent property in glorious Burgundy countryside. Very comfortable attic room with a great room. Dinner in Restaurant Lassey was superb with really excellent service.
Very low beams and uneven ceiling in our attic bedroom were a bit of a hazard!
Location and surroundings are worth exploring, you will see a wonderful parc and cathedral nearby. The lunch and dinner were perfect, as well as you can enjoy cocktails or a glass of wine at the terrace with the view.
Panoramic views. Beautiful building. Lovely rooms. Good facilities e.g. games room
Restaurant very disappointing. Could not cater for dietary requirements in the restaurant despite being advised months in advance. We do not understand why they were able to provide hors d'oeurvres that catered for our vegan and dairy intolerance, but they could not (or would not) adjust our restaurant meals, e.g. could not have jus with lamb order so no sauce provided so dry dinner, no vegan options, so only plate of vegetables available with no protein element and still charged full price. The manager did provide us with a round of drinks as compensation, but had we not gone to the bar we would have had nothing. Although accepted, this did not compensate for the poor experience for the whole party. Because of this, we would not recommend this property to anyone with dietary requirements.
The location, the beautiful surroundings, the staff, the breakfast and the beautiful room!
