About
Surrounded by the Dolomites, Hotel Al Forte is partly an ex-fortress from the times of the First World War. It offers a 180-m² wellness center, and is ideal for exploring the Dolomites, whatever the season. Rooms are decorated in traditional Alpine style and feature light-wood furnishings and either carpeted or parquet floors. Facilities here include an LCD satellite TV and most overlook the Dolomites. There is free Wi-Fi in the main building, and chalets set in a separate building 1.2 mi away are also available. The wellness center comes with a sauna, hot tub and Turkish bath. It also includes a Tepidarium, Kneipp hydrotherapy and a fitness room. The hotel offers ski storage. The à la carte restaurant serves local specialties and classic Italian cuisine. The wine cellar features over 200 labels and all the delicious desserts are homemade. The half-board option features a wide selection of 5 menus. Breakfast is buffet style. Located 1.9 mi from Arabba, Al Forte is great for hiking and cycling excursions during summer. In winter, it is in the heart of the Dolomiti Superski area. The 2 private ski busses take you to the ski slopes in just 3 minutes. The hotel offers at extra cost a charging station for electric or hybrid cars and e-bikes.

Pros +
- Incredible hotel built in a WW1 fort. An absolutely amazing experience.
- Great location for a ski trip, near ski lifts, supermarket, restaurants etc.
- Dinner service was spectacular, from the staff to food. Staff was welcoming and nice, always there if we had any questions. Adding that we were never left hungry after dinner or breakfast. And Christmas dinner? Just simply amazing from every angle. And I will never forget how accomodating they were when we asked for one last shuttle to the slopes, even if we have already checked out and they weren't offering it that day. They did it without hestitation. Thank you all for amazing Italian hospitality in the hearth of DolomitesAnd a friendly reminder for future guests is to bring your own bathroom robes and definetely some slippers for sauna and just walking from room to restaurant.Pictures down below shows you how amazing the food is.
Cons -
- In the restaurant, we were confronted quite rudely as to whether we were guests of the hotel or not. We decided to eat dinner at a nearby establishment instead.
- I really don't have anything bad to say about Al Forte.
- I wish I could have stayed longer, but there were no available rooms.

I really don't have anything bad to say about Al Forte.
Parts of this wonderful hotel were formerly a Austrian fort built in the late 19th century. The fort was shelled extensively during WWI by Italian forces. It was patched up and turned into a small but fantastic hotel. We enjoyed the restaurant.
I wish I could have stayed longer, but there were no available rooms.
Great room. Staff was very friendly. Comfy bed. Wonderful breakfast. Would definitely stay here again.
Was unusually warm for September and would have appreciated air conditioning.
Comfortable and clean room, very kind staff and owners, amazing view from bar terrace
The location and landscape are magnificent. The restaurant staff are impeccable and extremely dedicated and efficient. We ate very well, both at dinner and at breakfast.
The room was small, old and very dilapidated. The bathroom was dirty and things were falling off by themselves (for example a wall bracket and the tap), the light bulbs were flickering and the plaster on the ceiling was falling off. The room smelt of damp and the bed was very uncomfortable. The room I booked had a double bed and a bunk bed (it said it could sleep 6 adults max). Although there were only two of us, the room we stayed in didn't appear to be an upgrade and we weren't informed of the change.
We had a really nice and comfortable stay in Hotel Al Forte. The room was very clean and had everything we needed (big bed, small refrigerator, bathroom with hairdryer, TV and even balcony). The restaurant had amazing staff, various options for breakfast and great dinners. Lots and lost of food with many different options. The hotel was very close to a small town called Arabba where you can buy freshly made sandwiches for hiking (in Despar). We were close to most of the hiking trails and were very happy with our stay. Highly reccommend!
Tha pressure in the shower was sometimes very low so the shower took longer while we had to wait for the water to come again.
The hotel is extremely welcoming, combining original fortress architecture with a modern extension. The design of the hotel is very sensitive to every detail. The staff is very helpful, attentive to the needs of the guests. In addition to the very pleasant wellness center, I would also appreciate the friendliness of the restaurant and the quality of the food. We have been to the hotel for the second time and would be happy to return again.
Absolutely no complaints
The service in the hotel is perfect. Although it is not on the ski slopes, they have a very regular shuttle that drives you to and from the lift, so it does not affect in any way the ski experience.
The hotel is in very beautiful old stony building, it looks very cute and romantic inside, but in the restaurant is a bit chilly, so make sure to have warmer clothes for the dinners. Also, the spa area is quite small, so it gets a bit crowded.
Cozy hotel in a beautiful area of Dolomites. Super clean facilities very good restaurant. .
In the countryside with fabulous scenery from the the roof terrace. Room was a good size and a little old fashioned, but not in a bad way. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Great food
Some of the stairs were difficult for me with a bad leg.
My wife and I stayed for a week at the hotel, opting for half-board, and paying a little extra for a mountain-view balcony.Everything about the experience was utterly positive. The breakfast and evening meals exceeded our expectations in terms of quality and choice, but we would particularly want to praise the hotel staff - restaurant, front-of-house, cleaning, all, who were always cheery and helpful, making our stay even better than we might have wished. Also, little things that made a difference for us - we have a large estate car, and had no problem at any point finding a parking space; the fact that there was a mini bar in the room that meant we could keep our drinks chilled in the middle of a very hot summer; the system for ordering each evening's meal (we chose our courses from a menu each morning).
Nothing - completely satisfied. Well done!
The spa, the grappa a le liccorezza and the alpenglow over mountains ;-)
Water in whirpool was very hot
Beautiful building full of history and charm. The room was very clean and modern with a huge balcony. The dinner and breakfast were perfect! The wellness center was great with a sauna and steam bath perfect for relaxing after a hike. The staff was wonderful and we just wish we had stayed longer.
Great atmosphere, amazing restaurant, fantastic people - we spent 8 wonderful days in the ski season with 2 children. We got a large superior suite with a private jacuzzi, very comfortable, my children were in the focus of the staff who always fulfill all our wishes. We were so pleased with the great Italian cuisine and hospitality that we wanted to dine only at the hotel. Very close to the ski area, with a private ski bus. The most beautifull and comfortable place I have ever been in the Dolomites.
We did not live directly in a hotel, but in a cottage in the center of Arabba. The cottage was spacious, the beds in the bedrooms comfortable, the kitchen nice and quite well equipped, the bathroom very nice. The only thing that was a problem at the beginning was the sofa bed because there were 6 of us. The mattresses there were very low and uncomfortable. But then we found a nice high mattress on the way and we put the 2 thin ones on top of each other and it turned out to be a quite comfortable bed for two, so everything was in order. We were also in the wellness at the hotel, which was quite good, except we had a bit of a problem with the whirlpool. I would definitely return there the next time I go to the Dolomites.
As I mentioned, we had to help ourselves with the couch so that we could sleep on it. It was our luck that a spare mattress was stored there. I took a stitch for that couch, otherwise everything was fine.
interesting building with lovely views and done character , staff were very attentive , Restaurant was nice and Guido fun and amusing
shower head in room 26 could be better
Food was excellent. Rooms comfortable and spacious. Cosy and stylish public rooms. Staff very helpful and friendly. Well set up for skiing, though it is a short drive to the lifts
A little difficult to control the temperature in the rooms. Booking website says it is ‘ski in/ ski out’ which it is not (though we knew this before booking).Everything else was great.
Location is incredible. Just 7 minute walk to S Marco Square.
Overall this is a great value for a solo traveler.
