    Pros +

    • This was the perfect location for a couple of nights in Orta San Giulio. Rooms are a bit small, but otherwise well-equipped and comfortable. Good breakfast and we had a wonderful meal at the location. Very friendly staff.
    • We loved being on the waterfront, facing the Convent island. A charming place to stay within the old town and with lovely staff and a delicious buffet breakfast. We thoroughly recommend this hotel.
    • The staff were so helpful and made our stay extra special. Our bed was comfortable and the room was nicely decorated. There was a step just inside the door which threatened to derail us, but we survived. Breakfast was adequate. Terrace, location and views were beautiful.

    Cons -

    • As above
    • The bathroom needed updating - the shower head didn't stay upright and we had to tie it up to have a shower, also the plug for the sink was broken and had to be lifted up with a knife. The place is family run and the standards are not high. It's bit scrappy/messy everywhere, very disorganised and some of the staff in the restaurant were incredibly rude - especially the owner and his mother - although the hotel staff were lovely. The whole place felt tired and unloved. It's a shame as the building is lovely and the location is superb. The breakfast spread was not bad but you were only allowed one hot drink from the coffee bar - otherwise charged to the room as were any eggs which were not well prepared so not worth the bother. In addition, we left a jacket behind in the hotel bar and contacted them the following day. We explained where we thought it had been left were told that it had not been found, but as we were passing a few days later we went back ourselves and found the item exactly where we asked them to look. Clearly no one had bothered to check at all. Very disappointing.
    • No complaints really.

The location, directly on Lake Orta overlooking the island was magical. You can swim directly from a pier into the lake and there are quite a few sun beds, as well as terraces for lounging. Our suite was fairly spacious if a little dark and there was a day bed in the room, as well as a kettle and fixings for hot drinks. Our suite did not have direct terrace access although we did have a view of the lake from our room. The location of the breakfast on a terrace overlooking the lake was lovely too.

Amazing location, right on the waterfront, brand new pier with a ladder for swimming in the lake.

    No complaints really.

We like the hotel, it's celebrating its 201st year anniversary. The photos of the first owner (1814) mirror that of the old lady who currently owns the hotel. Lots of history there. The bed was excellent, the "massage" shower was remarkable. I absolutely love the quality and level of comfort put into this hotel. It's one of the best I've ever stayed in. The young receptionists were energetic, enthusiastic and positive. It was a great way to start the vacation. The location is the best in town, right on the water, fifty yards from super restaurants.

    1. The breakfast was terrible. Absolutely minimal food provided, and the cheese was the worst I've had in my 50 years of living in Europe. It was inedible, and it stood out as the only thing left on the buffet. Nothing warm, way too expensive for what was provided. 2. Our AC malfunctioned. We were given another room. It was smaller and had no balcony. I asked for a better room or to be compensated for the small room at the back of the hotel (the view from the window was a wall 6 feet away). I was told there was nothing available. The hotel was NOT full. I immediately checked Booking.com and there WAS a room with a view of the lake available. I called the front desk; they asked me to wait while they checked. While waiting, 30 seconds later the "available" sign went away and a "no rooms available" sign popped up on Booking.com. The receptionist had switched that room to "taken" while I was on the phone with him. The absolute nerve. 3. I found the senior leadership, i.e. head waiter and owner were dour and unsmiling. It seemed like when I asked for something like ice that they were doing me a favor. I'd stay there again, but with little expectation of talking to a grateful senior staff.

Friendly service. Excellent breakfast. Breathtaking location.

Access by car is difficult. A little shuttle might be helpful.

Very small room, but good for the price

The lakeside location of this hotel is excellent, right in the heart of the town and close to restaurants and shops. It has a restaurant which serves very good food and has an extensive, if somewhat expensive, wine list. It is a comfortable establishment. The information that was supplied about the town's limited traffic zone was comprehensive and helpful. The breakfast was very good.

The bedroom was very small and would be a struggle for guests with big luggage. Our room had a step down into the shower room which could be a trip hazard in the dark or low light. The restaurant lacked atmosphere and was a bit dated, though the quality of the food did compensate for this. The hotel bar seems to have been turned into a infants creche, so not much chance of refreshments.

Our room was really beautiful and we had a terrace that looked out over the lake. We had an excellent dinner and the restaurant. Very nice family owned hotel.

Location, style of room, view, peace and quiet

Though the staff were lovely and helpful, the hotel owners were not very welcoming, unsmiling and ignoring their customers.

Great location, appealing interiors, tasty food and attentive staff.

    Rooms perhaps a touch small

Best position on Lake Orta and in central square. Near lots of restaurants.Friendly helpful and English speaking staff on reception. Beautiful view from room and terrace outside room. Comfortable room with jacuzzi bath..Lovely sitting outside for breakfast overlooking the lake.

Our comfort room was nice but lacked any drawers for storage which would have been useful when staying a week. Although room was on the small size it could have bedside cabinets with drawers rather than just tables. Loo

The location is amazing, just in front of the boats. The staff is lovely and helpful. We were at the location for a wedding and the staff guided us about everything we needed (hair dressers, ironing etc.). Also the facility is kid friendly, we didn’t feel uncomfortable at all. The room was clean and well utilized. I enjoyed the breakfast selection with fresh cheese, some pastries and fruits. Cooked breakfast also can be ordered with extra charge.

Perfect location! Couldn’t be more central in the village. The hotel had multiple beautiful terraces and an amazing view on the lake. It even had an access to swim in the lake from one of the terraces, which was a big plus for us.The room was very confortable, and we had a view on the main piazza.

If traveling by car, it’s quite difficult to reach the hotel. GPS makes you take very tiny roads, some of which you simply can’t take with a medium size car. Ended up parking the car at the entrance of the village and going down to the hotel by foot with our luggage. This turned out to be the easiest and fastest option!

The location, the staff, the breakfast and the junior sweet were all very good.

In the standard room there cockroaches and mosquitoes - which was unpleasant.

    10MichellePosted on: 8-27-2024

Perfectly situated on the edge of Lake Orta and next to the town square.

    Beautiful quirky traditional hotel

    7PrimaveraPosted on: 8-26-2024

The rooms were beautiful and the reception staff were charming. The hotel is right on the lake with a private jetty you can swim off. Incredibly, our room had been slept in by the philosopher Nietzsche in 1882. I'm surprised they don't make something of this (other than a plaque outside!). The room had a jacuzzi bath which was rather nice (although it stopped working on the third morning when I'd just been for a run and would have enjoyed it most).

Unfortunately there were French windows on both sides leading to a shared terrace so we had to keep them shut at all times for privacy, which made it challenging to really enjoy the view. The room was really small. There was a small wardrobe but no drawer space or shelf space in bathroom. It was plagued with mozzies (not their fault but still annoying). As is common in many hotels, the electricity only works when you put your key card in which means you can't charge things unless you're there. The breakfast staff were really scruffy (no uniform, not even an apron) and there was no cooked breakfast. The restaurant was fussy and a bit expensive and not well frequented - a shame, but there are loads of other restaurants to choose from in town. The family who run the hotel had colonised the corner of the restaurant that you had to walk through to get to the breakfast room - it was full of toys, buggies, laundry etc. It was quite bizarre and gave what was otherwise a very smart hotel a really shabby feel.
