Sorell Hotel Arabelle Bern

We stayed at Hotel Arabelle last night (check in Aug 20, check out Aug 21, 2025) and were assigned The room was on the top floor and was so hot and stuffy in the evening. The room did not have any windows and only skylight windows on the roof. Horrible.

My wife and I were in Bern for the Santa Run and spent one night at this hotel. The self-service registration was simple, the room was clean and we had a good selection of food and drinks for breakfast. Very conveniently located in the very quiet University area and close to the city center.

The bathroom was a bit small

The beds was extremely uncomfortable. Self check-in was not easy as in French and keyboard visible at first.

Check-in process is poorly explained in the booking emails and the software is difficult to negotiate. Also didn't work for some people I tried to help

The heater was broken but the staff changed to the new room for us

Checkin is by self from 3.30pm onwards with a rather slow computer

Easy bus ride from station and the location near the university is really interesting. The rooms are spacious and cleaned. The walk back to the city is down hill and just over a km. There are good cheap eating options nearby.

I am surprised that a hotel of this quality closes the front counter at 4 PM. The management needs to make this more clear when you receive confirmation as you need to search your emails to access the code. Also when you do the self serve check in, it is not clear that there is an English option so our limited German muddled our way. You also have to submit personal details that were already given when booking. When we were given our room we could not locate this in the motel. There was a small sign near a door indicating that you need to go to another building when we got there the door would not open. Finally in frustration we rang the help desk who quickly solved the issue. The process almost took 20 minutes which caused a bad first impression. If it was not for the initial check in I would highly recommend this motel. As management could easily solve the issues I have highlighted

Breakfast was very poor, on my third morning I didn't even bother. But the room was excellent, and the location suited me perfectly, close enough to town to walk but out in the suburbs among real people.

Breakfast. The cooked items were not very nice, everything else was a bit underwhelming. I liked the yogurt.

Staff was just the best!! Julia was absolutely brilliant and gave us so many valuable tips for our Bern exploration! The room was spacious and comfortable and toiletries were from Rituals!!! Breakfast was also amazing, with many options! The hotel also has this gorgeous garden where you can just relax. I definitely recommend!

The only inconvenience for us was car parking space. The hotel was flagged as if it had car parking, but we actually had to park in the street and buy tickets. I think they should update that to avoid surprises .

Good location a walk from the station. Nice breakfast with lots of choice.. clearly trying to.cut their environmental footprint.

Check in had only one terminal and was a bit confusing if you booked via booking.com. Minor shower cubicle door problem.

The hotel is easy to find, room is always clean, reception guy was very nice and even showed us the map of Bern. Food choices in Frühstuck buffet are good. They gave us a complimentary gift because of our Toilet problem.

We checked in late and we were 2 customers waiting in line to do self check in but apparently having a hard time checking-in because the booking number given thru email and the booking number needed is different. Called several times the other branch knowing that we can just go ahead and get the envelope inside the reception area. We can also hear the noises from above rooms when they move some furnitures.

Location is a 8 min walk from Bern train station. Easy self check in process. Breakfast was great there was plenty of options from scrambled eggs to pastries. The croissants was so yummy and fresh

We didn’t have a mini fridge in our room so was not able to keep our beverages cold or leftover food.

The room was very clean and the location is convenient. The breakfast was good and there is a bus stop just 1 minute away.

After 4pm, you need to self check-in. This is not straightforward. When arriving, one person was locked out of the building not able to enter. The second couple didn't manage to find the room. This is quite problematic. There was no access to a fridge. I needed to go to their other hotel which is 15 minutes walk one way... This is problematic if you need to store your medicines in a fridge...While the room was spacious and clean, it eas very dark. Our room was under the roof, the window were pretty dirty and we couldn't open the curtains as they were broken.

Minimal contact with staff. Single room nicely set-up, breakfast standard continental. Would have helped if hotel had pre-advised limited reception hours (confirmation issued 5 months earlier mentioned only those on weekends, which did not apply here). Also transport voucher should be issued 24 hours prior to arrival or at least on the morning thereof. Easy to reach by public transport.
