Pros +
- The location for breakfast was too far from the accommodation and the hill was very steep. The choice was fine but it would be nicer to have this closer to the rooms
- Everything around, room and breakfast is beautiful!
- The room was adequate for the price. The breakfast facilities are very good.
Cons -
- The distance
- You have to ask for the Wi-Fi connection code at the reception. And then it turns out that it's your room number. There are three QR codes stuck on the mirror, but none of them connect to Wi-Fi, although it would be easier than going to the reception in the middle of the night.
- Getting to the property is a 10 minutes winding, uphill drive, which is both treacherous and a little daunting coming back down. The breakfast room is in a completely different location to the bedroom and requires a further 2 minute drive uphill. Not ideal.

Lots to do and see. I was only there for one night out of season but will hopefully return to use bike trails. Room comfortable and breakfast and dinner very good
Nothing really. Breakfast is a good walk or drive from accommodation
The location is spectacular, great breakfast and dinner
The bathroom need maintenance
The breakfast purchased was excellentThe location perfect.
Low score for comfort as cooling system not working. We were told it was turned off however room was heating. Outdoor temp was 22 and room temp was 26. Extremely hot in room while trying to sleep. Could not leave door open as too many bugs entering. We did ask for heating system to be repaired however was not fixed. 4 sleepless nights
Lovely room, great view. Lovely restaurant with relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. Great food.
There's actually another hotel on the site (Renaissance) which is where I thought I'd booked. It was a 500m walk or drive to the restaurant up a very steep hill. We're not afraid of exercise so drove to it and walked back....don't think you should drink and drive.
Bad
Rodent in ceiling running around gnawing and scratching. Sink loose. Tiny balcony. Noise level from other rooms. Toilets flushing, hear talking, doors banging shut.
Amazing view from balcony overlooking the Serchio valley and Barga. Beautiful quiet setting.Great breakfast.
The coffee machine and small fridge are in a small foyer shared with another room.A 10 minutes walk uphill to get to the restaurant for breakfast. The restaurant is very close to the chalets so convenient if you're staying at the chalets.
Location was superb. Reception staff were very helpful and friendly. Restaurant staff very prompt and professional.
Checked in by friendly helpful staff . Gorgeous location and the room was large , very clean and well equipped . A car is most definitely needed as the property is a km or so above the main hotel also the breakfast room is a fair walk uphill . Not a problem for us .
It was amazing stay. The view is very good, staff is helpful, all was excellent. Worths to get away from city.
This is not a hotel, it should say hostel in the forest
I arrived on June 9 at 9 pm with my son and left first thing in the morning at 11 am because I needed to find another accommodation, this property has the wrong location. It is not what they show in the photos. The property is in the middle of nowhere. It's caused me depression. I tried to cancel but they refused to cancel and still asked me to pay rest of the 2 nights that I was not there. I am going to dispute for full refund.
Amazing location on top of a mountain, perfect to get away from it all. Solid breakfast. There is a bike rental place where you can rent ebikes to explore the surroundings, which are beautiful.
The room was a little noisy in the night, because you can hear everything thats happening in the building, eg someone taking a shower. It doesnt help that the night is super quiet! so that took some getting used to. Also the breakfast was good, but no fruit or veggies of any kind - perhaps because we were offseason.
In the mid of a natural reserve , comfortable room, overwhelming breakfast
The location is somehow isolated and far from other dining options and cities
Location and room spacious super clean!
Nice big room Fridge in hallway excellent.
Although only 2km out of Barga (as the crow flies) it’s further than we thought and right up the mountain. Very hard to find given the instructions in the dark. The path to the room was broken and tripped a few times.
When I was moved to another room it was nice, but very far from the location I needed to be
This hotel provides misleading information on its location and provides terrible customer service, especially from his manger Giuseppe Mangia.from the location provided on Booking or on Maps, the hotel appears to be very close to the much more luxurious Il Ciocco Renaissance Hotel. This is very misleading and borderline dishonest because many people, like me, may thing your complex is part of the Renaissance hotelIt is not the case at al. it is in fact a 30 min walk on a very dark road in the mountain. Not great for a woman travelling alone. The customer service is pretty bad even if the people at reception are nice and do their best in difficult circumastances . I tried calling several times during my check in day to notify of late check in, and the number wasn’t working. I emailed the reception twice and got no response. I also contacted you on booking twice and go no response. I was then given a terrible room that smelt very strongly of tobacco. I had booked and paid for a mountain view room, but there was a giant tree obscuring the entire view. I was then put in a nice chalet up the road but it was even furthest from the Il Ciocco Renaissance Hotel where I needed to go several times a day to attend my conference. After I noticed these issues and needed some help, I emailed the manager quite a few times during the day to help me come to a resolution (for example simply lending me a bike so I could access the hotel more easily and safely), I got 0 response from Giuseppe. this made me feel even more unsafe so I asked to check out early. I got 0 discount but instead a booking voucher...valid for 6 months..!! so I have until January to come back to this place that made me feel so uncomfortable! The biggest problem really is the manager completely ignoring my messages and sending his poor staff to instead compensate me with this joke of a coupon. what a brave attitude to ignore customers and instead lets young staff members to deal with their issues.
Our stay at the Ciocco was good. The thing we liked the most was the cleanliness of our room as well as the very friendly check-in lady. The location is quite a bit up in the woods (4km from the entrance!). The area looks a bit like a country club in the U.S. The breakfast takes place in another building up the hill, so if you don‘t want to walk up the steep street to the breakfast and/or dinner, you better have a car!The breakfast was good, but you have to ask for fresh coffee (there was only filtered one at the buffet). The fresh coffee/espresso was great - and included in the price. You basically find everything on the buffet.Big plus: VERY quite, surrounded by nature.See added picture as it shows the view from our balcony.
Since the Ciocco Hotels are several buildings in a large area, we had difficulties finding the reception.Check-out time is 10 a.m., which we think is quite early, especially when in holidays.Unfortunately, the scrambled eggs in the heating container were cold.
The location and views from the hotel are absolutely stunning. The beds are comfortable, bathroom is modern/clean and breakfast is good. The staff at reception speak great English and are very friendly and attentive. Plenty of parking also and pretty easy to get to, although be aware that you will definitely need a car, unless you like walking up mountains!
Room did not have air conditioning or a mini fridge. It was very very hot when we stayed so these two things would have been really good to have. The staff did arrange for a tower fan for us which was really nice of them and certainly helped, especially at night when sleeping, but I do think a/c would be a nice addition. Also, there isn't a swimming pool (which is made very clear when booking so it wasn't a surprise to us) but if there was the option to have one the hotel would be that much better, or even to have an arrangement with the posh Renaissance Hotel to use their pool would be great. As it turns out we ended up using the pool in Albiano which was fine.
