JW Marriott Hotel Harbin River North

If I could give the JW Marriott Staff a 20, I would. In addition to the normally high-quality service provided by Marriott, the staff was beyond excellent--from the front desk to the concierge to the staff throughout the hotel. They kept a special eye on us to make sure we were taken care of (we were the only non-Asians we saw there). We had such a fun evening with their free dumpling-making session on Chinese New Year, followed by a free Chinese New Year dinner and entertainment. They all made us feel at home. Although not located in a downtown area, the hotel is close to some of the more popular venues which are the reason folks come to Haerbin during the Ice and Snow Festival. The hotel offers a free shuttle several times a day to the Ice and Snow World, the Snow Sculpture World, the Siberian Tiger Park, and St Sophie's Church (which is the downtown area). A taxi back from each venue is less than 50 RMB (7 USD). As always, the Marriott breakfast buffet didn't disappoint with a plethora of food and drink offerings. I did want to mention one thing for which I commend the hotel staff. I stupidly left my phone in the taxi one evening and implored their help. They pulled their camera tapes, found the number of the taxi, called the taxi cab company and arranged to have the driver return the phone to me---an invaluable service since the phone contained my Chinese Sim card and I had 3 weeks left to go in China.

I know the temperatures are below 0 F but it was quite warm in the room and we couldn't lower the temperature. This was partially due to the heated floors in the bathroom and vestibule area, which was a nice touch. The internet--connectivity and speed---needs work, but, hey, this is China and not unexpected.

The room temperature was too warm at night. Probably due to the heater. But staff was helpful to provide us with portable aicon to help rectify the issue.

Not working safe deposit box, bathtub water holder didn’t work well, bar selling whiskey was closing very early

because of the hotel staff who first rang the bell(was half asleep), and then broke in (he had the key), when I screamed in the pitch dark he went away. I followed him outside to find him calling somewhere and he OFFERED ME BOTTLE OF WATER -that was his purpose. I told him I didn’t ask for it and it was half past midnight. After I tried to go back to sleep WHEN THE PHONE RANG, when I answerd it it didn’t get through. I called the front desk only to be hold up by non-English speaking staff, and when I tried again, the staff explained they called to SAY SORRY they disturbed me.

I don’t understand what had happened. I PAID to stay there quietly and this was what I got.

Very helpful and friendly staff. I got a recommendation for a good restaurants of chinese grill and beer.

Rooms were very nice. Property was clean and modern. WiFi worked well. Location is decent not great. Not much around the hotel. 20-30 min to Ice and Snow World by taxi. Park across the street and with a nice sledding area for kids 3 min walk away.

Many facilities were closed due to the current economic climate. This meant that there was nowhere to have lunch or a drink besides the 300 RMB executive lounge. We understand why the facilities were closed but were not made aware until after checking-in. It’s a good hotel, but not great value. I won’t be going back.
