Pros +
- The location was wonderful. It had some old world charm.
- Loved our stay—a perfect location within walking distance to the shops, restaurants and Christmas markets.
- Location is fabulous. They have a small Christmas market rightOutside their door. Staff were very helpful and friendly, room And bed was very comfortable. We would stay here again.
Cons -
- Rooms were very small/ basic. One pillow per person, no water, bottles or amenities. Train was delayed we missed our first of the night reservation. They were unwilling to compensate us for any of it, which I understand but breakfast would have been nice
- I didn’t read the reviews and didn’t realize there wasn’t air conditioning. We did open the windows but the foot traffic and restaurant noise until 2am made it hard to sleep with the windows opened.
- Gets a bit noisy in the evening, due to a bar nearby, but not really an issue as everything gets quiet early.

Beautiful old hotel in excellent condition. I loved the location next to the river.

Historic building, well preserved and functional. Location is wonderful, right next to the Rhine and old town.

Hotel was located in a nice area of Basel and in a nice vibrant street. Also near the famous bridge of basel..the room was clean and tidy and comfortable bed. Access to hotel was easy but on Christmas time they close the road. breakfast is okay and quiet at night with no disturbance.
floor Parquet in the hotel everywhere was old, loose and making noise and was disturbing especially at night. rooms are very small for the single person. internet connection was cutting and signal less in some areas of hotel. coffee and water were put in a shared place for all rooms within a particular floor and it was not practical at all as you have to go outside you room. they still use normal keys instead of access magnetic cards.i asked for coffee at the reception and they charged me 5 CHF knowing that i have free coffee at the floors and after i complained, they said ok u can choose not to pay but i paid anyway.i don't think it is a 4 stars hotel and staff almost do not speak well english.
I love the single rooms with a balcony on the top floor. The views of the Rhein and Grossbasel couldn't be better! Particularly during Herbstmesse, it's the perfect spot to be. While the room is small, it is very nicely appointed, comfortable and super clean. It had everything I wanted ... and the view!!!
Breakfast was good and there were plenty of choices along with champagne as an optional beverage. Service at breakfast was also very attentive. Also, our room was kept very clean and the bathroom was exceptionally large.
When we checked in, no one helped us lift up our bags up the flight of steps, no one told us what the breakfast hours were and then, on top of that, our room had no heat. When we checked out, they charged us for a breakfast the first day when we were not informed of the breakfast hours and therefore missed it. We were told it could not be refunded because we used a third party booking company. Thanks to Booking.com, we were able to get a refund of that charge. We were also told after the fact that if we wanted "extra heat" in our room, we needed to ask for a space heater!
The location and the old feel of the building
the two single mattresses. I would have preferred a double mattress. also, there was occasionally an unpleasant kitchen/food smell.
The location by the river was nice, its a very nice traditional hotel, staff were nice, but the lack of air conditioning in our room was unacceptable. We had such an uncomfortable sleepless night, it was terrible, we had to cancel the second night to stay at another hotel with air conditioning. We are from a country that is hot, so are used to the heat, but to not have air conditioning at a hotel when the temperatures were mid 30s celsius is not good.
Our room didn't have air conditioning and we were staying when it was really hot, around 35 degrees celsius. We had to ask for several fans that they brought to our room, but then there weren't enough plugs to plug them in. We booked for 2 nights but had to cancel the second night to stay elsewhere that had air conditioning, it was that bad, we couldn't sleep that night. Our room was very basic, not what we expected for the amount we paid, and had a tiny bathroom, only one person could fit in there at a time.
Thankfully I’ve come across “Rheinschwimmen” activities and the hotel was kind to give water proof bags to join. It was a very beautiful experience, thank you once again ?
It was our 14th wedding anniversary and Krafft team got us a bottle of wine and left a well wishes note for us. It was a memorable surprise for my wife. Thank you Krafft Basel.
Enjoyed my stay
Close location! Free use of a dry bag to float the river. The receptionist Buhlinda was so kind as well. The room was big and it was comfortable.
Nothing!
I like the legacy of the hotel, one of oldest hotels in Basel. Also, loved the view into the river , and the location, by the river.
I was there in Summer, midst heat wave, which makes the room temperature very hot. Not all rooms have AC. Luckily my room was provided with a fan to reduce the temperature.
great location, very beautiful view to the river ?.lovely stuffs. good breakfast ?? and again really great location and view
if you have car, they mentioned they have parking, but there is no any parking, you have to park in a far paid parking and it is 10min by walk from the hotel.
Incredible location overlooking the Rhein River. Beautiful big room, everything very clean and tidy. Great facilities. They provide a waterproof bag so you can float down the river.
No air con (common in Switzerland) so in peak summer it was incredibly hot in the room at night. The staff were great and provided a second fan for us which worked wonders the second night.
Great room and staff was super friendly. Great breakfast too
The fact that there is no AC is crazy in 2025. I know there are very strict laws around this in CH but this is not ok. Especially now that there is lots of clinical evidence that sleeping in warm rooms is a trigger for Alzheimers and other cognitive diseases.
The location and the restaurant. The food was delicious. I would eat there again
The room was extremely small, with a single bed. It reminded me of a college dorm room, or a high end hostel
The view!
If i had one more kilo fat, I wouldn't fit in the shower which I wear small or medium size clothes, size 38 ahahah
room was too small, did not have a good view.
the keys were too heavy, had to leave at the reception every time I went out.
