- Breakfast was good. Location to old town good
- The morning staff were very pleasant and the breakfast was just right.
- Location
Cons -
- We had 4 people as e-mailed to owner in MarchYet one of the rooms on top level was not suitable for 2 people for 2 days. Finally both rooms were hot with weather in 90's. Would have been nice if windows were opened upon arrival and a fan for each room was made available.
- While the location is excellent, be aware that you the rooms that are just above the restaurant can be noisy. We were there when a heat wave was happening and there was no aircon (not expected) so we left the windows open…but that meant it didn’t get quiet until after midnight.
- Small mistake with booking, booked 2 rooms but only had one. We made it work.

Location
Small mistake with booking, booked 2 rooms but only had one. We made it work.
The coffee was amazing but there needed to be more variety and more vegetarian offerings for breakfast. The view and decor were wonderful.
The pillows were not supportive and there were not enough pillows. Lots of sound from people in the hall and the stairs.
This hotel was extremely welcoming and charming. It is historic and there is no elevator but the staff helped with luggage. The family room is spacious with a great kitchen but the included breakfast is great (no need to cook). Highly recommend dinner at the restaurant.
The room could be hot during summer.
Great location in Alistadt (old city) of Freiburg. We had the family suite, which was quite roomy, and the windows let in breeze. The staff was very friendly. It was a close walk to Cathedral. We took a cab from the train station to the place, but got help to use the bus metro back to the train station, which was very manageable. Got brats at market around Cathedral, but hotel has outside Cafe. Nice breakfast included inside their hotel with German decor surrounding the sitting.
We had a family suite, but really just 2 beds, a couch without a pullout, and a fold out cot. Our daughter slept on the couch. With careful arranging, a small twin could probably fit in there. They could use a fan when there isn't a breeze because it's on the third floor and can get warm.
Excellent location. Friendly staff. Great breakfast. Spacious room (family suite) with available roll away cot or infant pen if needed (we did not use).
Nothing. It was an excellent place to stay.
The staff was very friendly, and I loved the traditional German breakfast served in a charming little part of the hotel. The hotel managed to be both quiet and yet conveniently located within the center of the city. I liked the energy of the hotel restaurant with service just below my room and along the canal, but at the same time the room was buttoned up tight enough that you couldn't hear any noise with the windows closed.
The location is great, walking distance to every point in town. We had a room/apartment booked for 4 people and they only left 2 towels and toilettes for 2 pax. Breakfast was average with not many options. It doesn't have any parking available, apparently you have discounts on some of them but we couldn't make it work.
Breakfast was very good and provided a wide selection of continental food. Staff were helpful and attentive without being over whelming. Hotel was very clean with daily maid service.
I am unable to identify anything I didn't like. Very happy.
We loved this little inn in Freiburg's old town. It's perfectly located; right near the brewery and just off a lovely lane of shops and boutiques, so it feels lively but still calm and safe at the same time. The hotel staff were very friendly and accommodating, the breakfast was lovely, and the room had everything we needed. It was small, but we expected this as we booked a basic room and it had everything included as shown in the photos online. The bed, pillows and duvets were more comfortable than some of the bigger luxury hotels we stayed in elsewhere in Europe, and while the bathroom is little, it had a very convenient niche where you can put your clothes and toiletries while showering.
We liked everything about the property and would absolutely stay again. However some travellers might find it useful to be aware that there may be some noise if your room is near the stairs. Ours was on the first floor and we could hear other hotel guest going up and down the stairs at different times, which was only an issue if it was early in the morning. For us, this wasn't a problem as this is what we would consider normal for a small inn in a little town, and overall we loved the experience.
The location is the best in town. The restaurant is also very nice
Somewhat squeaky floors, it's a rather old, wooden building . But it's just a detail
It was behind a beautiful walking area with a creek flowing . It's very rustic. Delicious dinner.
Breakfast was small. A few people ahead of us took most of the food, and it was never replaced . Not very friendly people except for one waiter. Our room was next to the stairs and was very noisy. Difficult area to park if using a car.
It's very close to the center and beds were good
In general the hotel is old and a bit dirty, we didn't have hot water neither heating in winter Breakfast very cheap and basic.
Upon our arrival the staff were very friendly and assisted us with our luggage up to our room 1 flight up. Our room was lovely and very comfortable. The bed was super comfy and the duvet felt like you were in a cloud ? Breakfast was provided each morning as was a typical German breakfast and was very good.We had dinner in the restaurant and the food was delicious !The location was perfect for exploring the Alstadt.
Great location in central Freiburg. Great room in a medieval inn. Nice breakfast and good restaurant. Friendly and helpful staff. Would recommend for a family planning a short stay in Freiburg.
Fabulous location. Rooms are above a restaurant and bar. Could hear some noise but nothing too bothersome & was expected due the building. Reasonable continental breakfast included which was appreciated.
All good.
Small but cozy room perfect for one night stay in Freiburg l. Nice and quiet location.Breakfast very simple but good
Depending on wind direction you can smell the restaurant if you keep the window open
Great location, friendly staff, very cute hotel, comfortable and clean, good breakfast.
If you are after staying in a traditional, old fashioned , quaint hotel, the Sichelschmiede ticks all the boxes. The location in the old town centre, with shops and restaurants at your doorstep, cannot be beaten. The room was spacious and cozy, furnished in a more traditional rather than a modern way. The included breakfast was continental only ,but in saying that there was a good amount of choice: cold cuts and cheeses, jams, bread, yoghurt, cereal, juice and tea and coffee.
If you are after a modern hotel with lot's of amenities the more traditional Sichelschmiede might not be for you. There is no check in desk, you'll have to find a staff member to sign you in and give you your keys. There is no lobby to hang out in, nor there is a lift.
