Swiss Residence Hotel- Kandy

The hotel was not a dump. It's not 5 star, it's more like a motel.

The state of the shower, the pool, and cleanliness in general were barely adequate. Nothing was pristine, but I suppose no one goes to Sri Lanka for pristine properties (although there are some).

Location and staff were excellent

Leaking toilet- shower didn’t work properly with cold water and hot water fluctuating. Flies on the food in the breakfast area. Quality of the hotel overall was not good.

Location and food was good. Also during morning times, monkeys used to come in our gallery and that was a playful time.

Facilities provided are not like 4-star facilities. Plus there were lots of ants

The room I was given was a twin bed but I had booked a double bed. And the staff were not very willing to help. They had mixed up my booking with another persons and they didn’t even apologise. Also the place wasn’t as nice as photos show.

The staff are friendly and helpful. They accommodated a room change for us and organised our laundry quickly.

In our original room, the shower and toilet had glass doors and opened directly into the room, the washbasin was in the room. The glass doors were filthy and the shower in dire need of cleaning and maintenance. Water comes out in hot and cold blasts. We had to ask for toilet roll as only a small amount was provided. There were many faults in our room, in particular the air con didn't work, and we were transferred to a "better" room with a proper bathroom, and the safe didn't work in here either. There is no bar at the hotel, there is a restaurant which provides a set dinner menu only. The lift only operates only from the first floor upwards. Breakfast was very disappointing. The place, we were informed, has not been updated for 25 years, and it really shows, it looks mouldy on the outside. It's a long way from the centre.

The staff were responsive when we asked to change our room on arrival (there were screaming kids through the connecting room), although the staff member that showed us our room said he couldn't hear it.

The only other available room was on the 1st floor and the rooms on this floor are more like 2 star, not at all the same finishings. The building itself was not well maintained, nor were the hallways or stairwells. Breakfast buffet was served in the large function hall and food was cold (a lot of things without signs and many basic things missing). Pool was not inviting.

Even though we had a full board booking not a single meal was a buffet and the set menu they provided was a very basic one, I had to speak to the maanger to get the menu changed

Only the location.. fantastic location with a superb view.

Staff were very helpful and polite it is not their fault that the whole hotel is in urgent need of refurbishment

Needs complete refurbishment, poor facilities or not working. A bad smell in the bathrooms. Everything is old and needs replacing. Poor access with no lift in the lobby or to the restaurant on the 3rd floor so we struggled with all the stairs. This should be mentioned in the hotel details as it is not an accessible hotel

Overall one of the best place I stayed. Staff is very friendly and very supportive. The way they speak, their professional attitudes are 100%. Especially foods are tasty and if out to the scale 1-10, I rate 100

A clam place to stay and staff were friendly.

They switched off lights outside the residence at night and we were unable to have a relaxing time in garden area.

We stayed for one night was happy with the staff and the size of the room. It was perfect for seeing Kandy

The food was a little disappointing, there was a lack of choice and the quality was not super. The chicken nuggets were nice.

Good sized room not much else

Very dirty, restaurant staff took about 15 min to even give us a menu, didn’t seem to know what they were doing, rooms were not comfortable nor did they have any character.

We have already been to Swiss Residence in 2020, before covid-19. In comparison with that time the hotel has got a little beat-up, because the upstairs restaurant with a beautiful view is not functioning, the pool seems like it is not used very often, and so on. But the staff of Swiss Residence is still very high-professional! Receptionists, cleaners, waiters, movers were extremely delicate and helpful, it was a very high-level. This team made our stay quite comfortable, so thank them a lot! If I was a manager of the Hotel I would appreciate this guys.so, 4/5 facilities 10/5 staffI wish the hotel more guests in 2023 and I hope Covid-19 will never return to this place!

Good hotel. Comfortable and clean rooms. Staff were nice. Special mention about Charith who was very helpful.

The elevator starts from only 2 floors above the ground level. have to climb two flight of stairs to get to the elevator to go to the rooms. The hotel confirmed availability of a generator during power cuts but still was sitting in the room without power during two different days of my stay.
