Pros +
- Beautifully presented in an excellent location. The staff member who checked us in and served our breakfast was absolutely lovely.
- The position near the old town centre would be good for those wishing to visit the Abbey and adjacent interesting buildings. However, finding one's way there by car was exceptionally difficult. The morning staff were very pleasant and helpful.
- Simple rooms, full of character rooms above a lovely restaurant. Would recommend a night or two here. Staff were welcoming, friendly and attentive.
Cons -
- Nothing it was perfect
- The receptionist when we arrived was difficult to understand due to her manner of speaking, not her language. Also we found her unhelpful and, worse, unwelcoming. The room was OK, but the bathroom difficult and certainly not worth the price.
- Given the standard of the restaurant we had expected to havesomething a bit more special for breakfast although I guess that reflects the reasonable price of the rooms.

The staff, food, and location were all excellent. The room was very pleasant and spacious. Saintes itself is a great place to visit.
The room had a few minor deficiencies:1. A kettle was provided, but only two small paper cups. However, staff were happy to provide 2 teacups on request.2. One of the bedside lights had a faulty bulb. Staff were happy to provide a replacement, but we then discovered that the lamp was not plugged-in.....and the only available socket was by the door. The shade on the lamp also appeared to be loose/broken.3. The wash stand in the bathroom is showing signs of severe water damage.
A comfortable inexpensive hotel with a good in-house restaurant.Added bonus was the ability to park over night.safely outside in the abbey car park.
The local dustmen clearly relish in getting their revenge on sleeping tourists with the racket they make in the early hours of the morning.Nothing new about this — they do the same in Spain!
The hotel is in the Logis group - often hotels with an individual atmosphere and a very good restaurant. This hotel was no exception with personally styled decoration and an exceptional restaurant with friendly and efficient staff that served us a truly memorable evening meal on their attractive ground floor terrace. Michelin mention very well deserved.Booking essential. Our 1970s styled attic room (10) was spacious, the bed generously sized & comfortable with extra pillows available. Everything was clean and well ordered. Side lights, table fan & separate room heater provided. No aircon but fan was fine. Bedding choices was a bonus - a generous double sheet or duvet made up on bed. It was a very hot night so sheet was perfect. Good hot shower (head clips to a magnetic strip) in simple but efficient compartment. 2 x hand & bath towels, bath mat and hair dryer provided. The hotel is next to the grounds of L’abbaye aux Dames (well worth a wander through). Parking next to the Abbaye. Not too far from main through routes.
No immediately recognisable arrivals area. The very tiny reception is in a corridor just through restaurant and was unstaffed. We had to ask an otherwise occupied waiter to book us in. 1970s styled room decoration was all in rich browns which made the attic room seem unnecessarily dark. Unfortunately the additional Velux - which would have cast some extra light was stuck shut/blind immoveable. No complimentary shower gel or shampoo provided. Liquid soap for basin sufficed. Don't bother with the expensive hotel breakfast. Early opening Boulangerie/Patisserie opposite had the locals sitting outside while we sat eating a very unexciting apportioned continental breakfast including a somewhat tired fruit salad. Despite our very pleasant surroundings and good service by the friendly and efficient Irish/French waitress we felt more than disappointed by the quality, particularly after such a wonderful meal the night before. Next time, yes we'll stay again, it's the boulangerie for us.
There was a really helpful member of staff who sorted out another hotel for us as we were not at all keen to stay at the Saveurs de l’Abbaye.
There was no reception we had to walk through a crowded restaurant into a dingy corridor to check in. The staff were not well presented. The ‘attic’ room we were given was dark and had small windows not at all inviting. When we complained we were given the key to another room which was already occupied. We were then shown to a third room which was just as dreary. We were led to believe there was private parking available which was not the case. As we had valuable bikes and personal items in our car we were not happy to leave it in a public car park some distance from the hotel. We decided to go to another hotel.
The room was cozy and had everything we needed in a great walkable location. The owner, also the chef of the fabulous onsite restaurant -Michelin star in the making. We enjoyed an amazing meal with a lovely bottle of wine all for 100 EU.
nice spacious room with nice bathroom
not in the best area. tried but didn’t get in the restaurant
Limited choice
Room cluttered and poorly lit. No fridge or air conditioning. Space limited by odd assortment of furniture.
Good location right next to the Abbaye aux Dames and just a few hundred metres from the Roman arch. Friendly, helpful staff. We had a good evening meal there and a continental breakfast.
No air conditioning - freak weather when we stayed, 40C. There was a fan which helped a bit.To be fair we have stayed at a number of other hotels in Saintes at this time of year and they have not had air conditioning either.
Location was good, near the centre.
Breakfast was meagre, very basic, no fresh fruit, only fruit salad. Prepacked cheese, ham, small pastries, bread, €10. Room was very dark, painted dark colours, noisy at night, fast noisy vehicles on road outside. Floors creaked. Room very cluttered, two bedside tables are sufficient for this room, I would suggest. There were five tables altogether.Restaurant terrace didn’t close until late then staff stacked chairs and tables and cleared up until almost midnight. Deliveries started early at cafe bar across the road and at hotel. Very thin walls meant I could hear the man next door breathing. You had to be very careful with wash basin tap as water would cascade over floor.. as with the soap dispenser which left my husband with a very embarrassing stain on his trousers.I have never written such a scathing review of accommodation which I have visited. This hotel needs to buck up its ideas.
Location OK
No staff to book me in, only 2 guys working in the restaurant who were too busy other than to take my money and show me to my room which was tiny, very tired, on the top floor, up a complicated stairway with no lift and carry your own bag.Nobody was available to book me a taxi needed to take me for an early morning meeting just out of town causing me a 40min walk in a strange town. (I did ask the 2 guys who refused because they were too busy). Also too early for breakfast which didn't start until 8am with no offer of a tray in my room. The cost of my room was outrageous considering the above.
Located within easy walking distance of pedestrian centre of Saintes, next to the Abbey. Hotel feels a bit of a rabbit warren, up a few stairs, down a few stairs, watch your head, mind the ramp but room was pleasant and en-suite bathroom was adequate.Free parking is available but is limited.
Limited free parking adjacent to the hotel, nearest alternative car park is only a couple of mins away but is only free to park weekends (& possibly evenings too - can't remember exactly). Free on-street parking is available nearbyBreakfast is offered but at additional cost.
After a long drive it was great that the hotel had a nice restaurant.
Room was a little small. Bed was advertised as a large double, but was a standard 5ft bed.
top location, the rooms are very cosy, small and confortable bathroom.
breakfast is very basic
