Pros +
- What a fantastic hotel! it's like walking back in time, like a hotel should be! Great staff! lovely rooms and decor. The breakfast was phenomenal! Great view of the sea and beach, with plenty of parking.
- Great hotel, and at a very good location. Breakfast buffet was really good. Spa was really good and clean.
- On a big picture level the hotel lives up to its name of being ‘grand’. The building and grounds are impressively scaled and the interiors are well-maintained and luxurious. An abundance of period details lends a pleasant atmosphere.
Cons -
- the room was at 26°C in October and No air condition. A ton of mosquitoes outside and we could not open the windows. Use of Spa at €80 per person, for two hours, was expensive.
- Our stay was impacted by various small issues: check in time is from 3pm but the room wasn’t ready, on the final day our room key was deactivated whilst we were having breakfast, the room was heated to over 26 degrees and too hot to sleep in comfortably (the advice was to open the windows which also let in a lot of noise), the loo roll ran out during the first night, the pillows were hard et al. A lot of the pleasure of staying in a hotel lies in the detail and we felt a little let down. One further point: the dining room and bar area in the evening were so brightly lit that it killed the atmosphere.
- It’s used as a conference hotel and for events so for 2 days the hotel was overwhelmed with big conferences that filled the facilities from early evening to midnight. That was 2 out of our 4 nights there

Location and gardens
It’s used as a conference hotel and for events so for 2 days the hotel was overwhelmed with big conferences that filled the facilities from early evening to midnight. That was 2 out of our 4 nights there
Great hotel , room and staff were best
The restaurant was a bit underwhelming. And lacking in atmosphere . food was ok but they served what looked like MacDonalds fries when i thought i would get fried potatoes. Considering the dress code requirements, i wasn't expecting MacDonalds fries. But the restaurant and bar staff were great .
The beautiful building and its history. The gardens.
Electronic lighting controls by the bed: when you switch off, a light comes on in the ante room, so you have to get up to switch it off and crawl back to bed in the dark. Defeats the purpose! Chaos at breakfast: no spare tables - apart from the dozen on the mezzanine which staff were reluctant to use. Arrangements for residents: On 1 of my 4 nights they closed the bar and lounge to residents because of a private function. I was told I could order room service, but there was no table in my room and I ate from a tray while sitting on the edge of the bed. Hardly 5 star treatment. With all the space and the staff that the Grand Hotel has, it should have been possible to set up somewhere for residents to have a drink or a light supper. As a minimum, residents should have been notified of the event in advance. It was also impossible to find a comfortable, quiet area to read and have a drink: the lounge is a constant throughway for staff dismantling and setting up other areas for conferences, meetings and other events; the gardens are wasted due to loud music and interviewers on stage just outside the hotel. I have been visiting Rimini for 45 years and the Grand Hotel has always been held in high esteem by locals, particularly those I know in the hotel industry, so this has been a huge disappointment. I stayed one night in May and decided to treat myself to a relaxing few days in September, but it was not to be. Fellini must be turning in his grave. Il Grand Hotel di una volta non c’è più.
Absolutely splendid; an old-style hotel steeped in history, modernized and renovated. Super location, friendly staff, excellent breakfast and so on
Location, beach, beds, rooms, terrace when available
Service. V much a conference hotel
A great old fashioned, in a good way, hotel in a great location. Great breakfast.
That to go to the beach, for one day was 83 euros! The drinks were quite expensive
Breakfast very good, front desk staff excellent.
The design of the bath and shower was dreadful and the power in the shower was weak.I had the most expensive dish on the dinner menu, turbot, and it was badly over cooked.
The old world charm with modern convenience. Loved the terrace attached to our spacious room, with lovely bathroom facilities. Live music at night and fabulously lavish breakfast.
Floors in the room slightly dusty/sandy from the beach. And the extra facilities such as indoor pool/sauna/spa or umbrellas at the beach extremely expensive to use - which was disappointing after paying a premium for the rooms.
Good food, entertainment
The room I booked based on website was nothing like the photos. It felt like we were put in the servants quarters
Nice refreshing pool and comfortable sunbeds. Room was comfortable enough. Breakfast was very good with lots of choice and nice hot choices also. Service staff at breakfast (if you go down early like we did) are very friendly and quick with service of tea and coffee and clearing tables. We had lunch one day which was nice but expensive, but we didn't try dinner as too formal for our liking.
No bar at the pool and nobody attending to see if anyone wants any drinks. You need to go up into the hotel bar and if it's before 11am they won't serve the pool.I think it's outrageous that you need to pay extra to use the beach facilities. We tried to look for it anyway, given the directions from reception as just over the road, but couldn't find.No concierge which was unusual in a hotel like this.
Good sized room with well equipped bathroom - great shower! Breakfast was fabulous with lots of choice and either on the terrace or in the magnificent ballroom. The location is excellent being very close to the beach and only a shortish walk into town. Particularly liked the availability of bikes to use free of charge.
The 'gym' is hardly a gym as it only has a couple of machines. It would have been good if the hotel had a decent sized exercise room.
It’s a beautiful building and you can’t beat the location. It’s very clean, the cleaners are the best of the staff at the hotel - they work hard and do an excellent job.
Overall it lacks the slickness and customer service one would expect from a 5 star hotel: The staff (except the cleaning staff) are inexperienced and untrained on the whole and let the place down. They would benefit from a visit to a 5 star hotel in Rome or Milan to see how it’s done. The staff on reception seem baffled by simple questions. When I checked in they sent us to a very small, dark room with a small bed. I went to complain and they admitted they had made a mistake and it was a single room (I had booked an Executive Double). The receptionist said ‘maybe there’s been a mistake’ and I said (not unpleasantly) ‘there definitely has because…’ she then cut me off abruptly and said ‘I get it!’ As English was not her first language I assumed she didn’t mean to be rude but we were a bit taken aback. As it would take time to sort out the issue they said go to the bar. They didn’t tell me the drinks would be free so I ordered frugally : ) The waiter brought the wrong drinks. My daughter asked for a smoothie and got a milkshake and my order was wrong too. I couldn’t be bothered to complain again as the tone of the start of the holiday was already a bit sour and my daughter was tired from our train trip. The daily price of their private beach is steep, but it is nice. The public one next to it was crowded. The pool is very small and seemed to have 5 sun beds. We didn’t use it.
The hotel has a pleasant atmosphere, but unfortunately it falls short of what one would expect from a 5-star property.
Unfortunately, the place was extremely noisy until around 5am, and the walls are very thin, which made it difficult to get any rest. This significantly affected the quality of the stay. The restaurant didn’t reflect the quality typically associated with a hotel of this rating.Too chic for what it offers — the food looks fancy but isn’t anything special.
Beautiful period hotel with gorgeous decor and extremely fine furnishings. Wonderful pool and parking attendants. Couldn’t do enough for us and so pleasant. Lovely generous breakfast and stunning outside space for drinks in the evening. Sometimes we were steered away from outside and to another area to sit. Very strange but then worked out they may have a function going on. They could have just said but it was a bit cloak and dagger. Room servicing superb, towels changed twice daily and bedding daily. Lovely service in the room.
Too close to the party beach which insisted on heavy base music each afternoon to let everyone know it was open. Stopped after a while but was every day and not in keeping with the beauty of the hotel. Very disappointing and one would hope some arrangement could be made to find a place of mutual respect for each establishment. As for the hotel, what a mix of staff?! Some were absolutely lovely and welcoming and others totally sullen. There was one awful fair long haired woman on the check in at breakfast who was totally stoney faced even when pushed for a smile. We upgraded our room and whilst lovely, a nice small sofa instead of the two upright chairs would have been more comfortable.
The exterior of the hotel and the pool were great. The food and buffet outside were fantastic. The breakfast had plenty of variety. Chandeliers were impressive.
The hotel is very dated inside - meaning some furniture was frayed and a bit shabby. The shower ran hot and cold, the power points didn’t work, wifi was very slow. The hotel had an onsite night club that is pretty loud till 3-3.30am. All not necessarily a big deal except they claim they are a five star hotel.
The location is great, right near all the restaurants. The staff who clean your room every day are great, they work very hard and are friendly, polite and keep the place spotless. The beds are just amazing, the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in. The food at the lunch beach cafe was absolutely delicious. The beach itself was beautiful, the beach towels were super soft and the actual beach staff were very nice.
All the extra costs that are not made clear when booking and are not on their own website is just diabolical. The huge extra cost to use the beach and get the sun bed is a total rip off. The room has NO tea and coffee facility, an absolute basic at a supposedly 5 star hotel. You can call reception for a "kettle kit" and it literally is just a kettle. So you have to phone again for tea bags and milk. The parking is also an extra cost at €25 a night. But ultimately what lets this hotel down are the staff and the service. The younger staff are great, polite and attentive. The older staff are rude, avoid any eye contact and act like you are bothering them with any small request such as a wine list at dinner. They seem to favour the older guests which is very short sighted as any hotel needs younger guests for the future. Also, there are two nightclubs (one under the hotel itself and one next door) , which play music until 4am so bear that in mind when you check in. For such a beautiful looking hotel, it was such a disappointment that the staff let it down with their incredibly slow, inattentive and rude behaviour. We will not be recommending it.
The hotel is located in a very beautiful historical building. Antique furniture. Perfectly conveys the atmosphere of a bygone era. Convenient location relative to the center of Rimini. Breakfast at the hotel is quite varied. . The parking at the hotel is spacious, there is no problem with the availability of a space. The parking attendant is friendly and attentive.
Lunch is very modest and not tasty at all. Pizza was simply inedible. The beach is within walking distance. The beach is across the road and the cost per day on the beach for a family of three 120 euros . The staff at the hotel, especially in the restaurant, is very slow and inattentive. The restaurant is next to the pool and view on the parking , although the receptionist talked about the amazing view from the restaurant windows and hurrying up with a table reservation! The manager at the reception was arrogant and unfriendly. The room was cleaned impeccably, but once after cleaning the door to our room was open. In five days, they only put a bottle of water in the room once! It is impossible to dry swimming suits in the room
