    Pros +

    • Quiet secluded locationComfortable bedHot and strong shower
    • We stayed here for the location and because our friends had picked the hotel as a meet-up spot. (They ended up regretting their decision.) The glamping tents have a gorgeous view and were very clean. The hotel room was also very clean. The beds were comfortable.
    • It had a nice cabin, and a cozy little wood stove in the main restaurant/lounge.

    Cons -

    • We rented a seaview room in the main hotel building. For the prices we paid 300 USD, the room was a severe disappointment. 1. not even a partial sea view. 2. Room size too small3. Room is not functional (no night stands, no convenient power outlet near bed, sink had no space).4. Significantly over priced for the size and location. Better to stay in Svolver for cheaper and larger sized room
    • The front desk clerk was very rude, the wifi was terrible even if you were in the lobby (and useless at the campsites or glamping sites), and there was always a line for the camping/glamping bathrooms. The hotel rooms were incredibly, laughably small. Extremely expensive by the local standards for what you get, based on the 10 hotels/homes we stayed at during our trip. And the front desk clerk was the only rude person we encountered over our two weeks.
    • Slightly chilly, but I suppose there are ways to keep warm.

We stayed at Panorama Cabin. It is small and far from the reception/restaurant. We also need to walk/hike a little, very little bit from where we parked our car but we knew this at the time we booked. We were lucky enough to see aurora directly from our bedroom/balcony when fellow guests had to drive so fast,in a hurry to the wharf, under down of our cabin, coz of it was the best location to get the pictures.Breakfasts were amazing, thank you. Barbara the receptionist was also very helpful, wrote all the location we could visit around and south of the area.

On the shower cabin: water temperature was luke warm, not hot; also leaking to the toilet.

Everything especially the location food and sauna.

Cosy room with great view, comfortable beds, friendly staff, good breakfast. The dinner at the restaurant was also very nice! I'd love to come back here.

Great location and great views. Good restaurant and lounge on the property. Good coffee shop as well. Will definitely stay again.

super cool place with local ownership. great vibes. property is fun to explore. sauna on pier is great. great food. glamping tents have epic views.

nothing. probably my favorite place we stayed in Norway.

This was some of the best food we had in our month traveling throughout Norway! Excellent restaurant. And literally jaw-dropping views of mountains and sea - such a fabulous place to kayak, and our guide was amazing. Our cabin was very comfortable, if a bit dated, and could not have been in a better location (Beach House). I was initially hesitant about loving the place given the copious amount of trailers, but I ended up not even noticing them after the first day, and everyone was so polite and aware of others around them. I have never stayed in a place where there were more people and been less bothered by that fact, as the place itself is enormous, and can clearly handle the additional tents and trailers, on top of the cabins and cottages already there. Both my spouse and I enthusiastically recommend Skarungen to everyone driving the coast of Norway! Beautiful, perfectly located, fantastic food, and tons of activity for everyone. Try the spa if you feel inclined; we loved it, even the incredibly hot sauna during the hottest days in central Norway in several years.

The only bad experience at all was 1 front desk employee who consistently and insistently blamed my wife for a booking mistake made by the camp - "The only one at fault here, Madam, is you." (We were booked for kayaking and the spa at the same hour on the same day, and there were only 2 of us!) By the next day, after the problem had been sorted out, he changed his attitude and was fine - though he didn't apologize for being so rude. Anyway, just double-check any additional bookings you make and you'll be fine. This negative event did not change our review at all - as we still enthusiastically recommend Skarungen!

when we got there, the air conditioning was broken, and they could not fix it. The alternative room was old and not acceptable, they refunded our money. We did not stay there.

    Superb location

Guys, when you charge this amount for the cottage, you could at least make sure the toilet door closes, the toilet button is not broken and the window stopper is not missing.

    9VanessaPosted on: 7-15-2025

Overall we liked our stay at Skarungen. We stayed in the budget cabins. Unfortunately, most of the dishes were dirty upon arrival. If you would like to do the sauna, you must book before arriving. It was not available the entire time we were there.

    9EileenPosted on: 7-8-2025

The views were great, breakfast was generous, and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. We stayed in a room in the main building. Lots of camping options too.

The pillows were hard and big. Not comfortable for my neck.

    Location

Staff's unprofessionalism/poor manner, cleanliness in public bath/shower rooms, unexpected charges

    • Beautiful fjordside location with stunning mountain views• Stylish, clean design with large windows• Onsite café, private sauna & hot tub — a great treat before bedtime• Easy parking and check-in• Good option for a short overnight stay

    • Super small bathroom — felt like we were in Tokyo!• No TV or sofa — basic and compact• No bath mat provided (seems to be the norm in Norway)• A bit pricey for the room size

    7JanellePosted on: 4-18-2025

Price is reasonable and the apartment was cozy, while having enough space for belongings.

No hair dryer. Wifi was unstable, and we relied on our personal data most of the time. You have to climb a steep set of wooden stairs (each plank is narrow) to get to the apartments. Especially during the winter or when its snowing, its very hard to bring luggages up, and very easy to slip and fall when the snow builds up.

    9SasikanPosted on: 4-7-2025

-cozy water cabin with a nice view terrace and chance to see aurora if the sky is clear-microwave and well equipped kitchen

-small bathroom-during a bad weather, so cannot clearly seen a great view

Everything. The staff were fantastic, the location was magical and the room was clean and comfortable. The food in the restaurant was amazing and the coffee was good.

    9CedricPosted on: 3-18-2025

Nice hotel, close to the main town but still very isolated and quiet. Rooms are small but very cosy, and with a great view if you take the room with sea view. Friendly and helpfull staff
