- Great location and amenities. Excellent value for price. Family and pet-friendly. Low-key. Totally recommend!
- This is a "sports" resort close to the sea: essentially a huge complex of one- or two-storey accommodation houses (kind of like university campuses across the UK, but bigger and more comfy), plus additional facilities (three swimming pools, two small gyms, a bike rental house, BMX-tracks, horsing tracks, a football court, two tennis courts, a small indoor playroom for kids, plus a small outdoor playground, two restaurants, a coffee bar with ice-cream and stuff, some table tennis and table football facilities, "baby dance" entertainment for children). Several huge parking lots (as most people come by cars), an ATM, a laundry room (with several washers and dries, charged currently 3 eur per wash + optional 1.5 eur for the soap). The rooms are spacious, with comfy beds, lots of storage room, a kitchenette with an induction stove (no oven!), a big fridge, lots of utensils, a dishwasher (!), iron, ironing board, two automatic airconditioning devices and on and on... Very clean and nice. This is essentially an "active vacation" complex so do expect lots of "athletic" types around, of all generations. On the other hand, it has everything you need, but is not "posh" in any bad sense of the word, so the crowd there is peculiarly normal and well-behaved. Mostly families with children. We tried the gyms (two: one for "cardio", with really a single bike and a single tradmill, plus some weights; one with bodybuilding machines plus more weights) - they are oldish, but get the job done. The pools are excellent (two for kids, one for swimming, 50ms, though not deep) - not very crowded and clean. They insist on wearing swimming caps so do bring over some! (Alternatively, the local drugstore next to the train stations sells them for 1.8 e a piece). The bar serves excellent and cheap coffee and icecreams.
- The staff is wonderful and helpful. The historic nature of the property is special and the restaurant food is superb.
Cons -
- Reserving the tennis court was a bit confusing. The restaurant requires reservations. Staff should let guests know at check-in that they need to reserve... It was a preventable bummer when we weren't able to eat there after driving 15 hours from Spain...
- Mosquitos are impossible in the area - even with a socket repellent in the room and a repellent cream on our bodies, we ended up with lots of bites. The climate appeared quite humid (late July - early August), perhaps it was this season only. You do need a car to get to the beach (five minutes, but a complication on foot). The resort is very close to a train station, serving lines from Pisa and Florence down to Piombino, plus there is a small coach taking passengers from the entrance to the resort to the closest beach every hour or so. So it is possible to get by without a car, but not easy. The sea is so-so (a consequence of our being used to Greece - much warmer, cleaner, and with no waves in many areas, e.g. the Chalkidiki peninsula), so this one may come as a bit of a regression. Also, they will charge you almost nothing in the complex, but once you are out, the Italians do seem to like to rip people off: e.g. parking is charged everywhere at a high price (ca. 10 eur for maybe 3 hours), umbrellas and beds can be ridiculous (35 eur +), and ON TOP OF THAT, they charge you for everything: say, you need a one-euro coin to turn on the beach shower (in the same place in which you have already paid for the beds and umbrella!?), at least 50 cents for every toilet and on and on...
- Not a thing. I've stayed here for years and will return.

Location worked out well. The restaurant food was great.
All areas of landscape needed attention badly-very overgrown. There should be something open to get food during the hours of 7:00 am to 11:00 pm always, whether there is a wedding on site or otherwise. We happened to have to wait for a place to open, and then when we went back, they only had 1 sandwich and so we had to split. This was a rainy day, we had no transportation other than to walk so the food issue was significant that day.
At first glance, the resort looks great, with covered parking, tennis courts, bikes, volleyball, and a pool—all with no extra charges. The location is beautiful as well.
However, the resort didn’t provide the most important thing for me—a peaceful night. My room had a connecting door to the neighbor’s room, which meant I could hear everything from their side. I could only sleep when they went to bed and woke up when they did. If I had friends as neighbors, I’d give the hotel a 10, but in this case, it was quite frustrating.
Great on-site facilities: pools, restaurant, cafe, tennis courts. Very well-run. Beautiful area and nearby beach.
The location is best travelled to with a car as the local public transport is quite limited.
Swimming pool for trainings, ping pong tables, pizza at the restaurant are amazing. Stuff is very friendly. Kitchen was very well equipped.I noticed that a lot of comments from previous customers reviews were taken into consideration.Wifi is available outside of room which can be considered as advantage as you spend less time with gadgets.
Apartment was a bit noisy, and we could hear about neighbours during day and night.
beautiful resort with a great pool and cool facilities, room was very spacious and clean with air conditioning
we were traveling with 2 under 3 and requested an accessible room but instead of being put in one of the buildings with elevators/ ground floor were put in second floor stair access only which was really inconvenient. My toddler absolutely loves the indoor play area but there are exposed sockets and some dangerous broken toys with nails and all thrown on the floor so definitely need to be maintened betterall in all I'd say it's a great place to go to with older kids but toddlers/ babies only if you can guarantee an accessible room
I loved the scenery and the facilities, the staff is very friendly.
I was irritated by the fact that the city tax of 2 euro per person per night was stated as included in the price by booking.com, but then I had to pay it as extra when I checked out.
it was great place for a family vacation - close to the beach (cca 10 mis car drive), many sport activities in the areal, plus we had really great apartment (2 floors)
everything met our expectations.
Fantastic big apartment on 2 levels!!! 2 rooms plus a beautiful underoof room. A great swimming pool, 3 tennis courts, professional bycicle rent service very efficient. We had one day guided bycycle tour and it was great! Very closed to the most important archeological sites of Populonia. Great!!!
Wifi could be better!
It is in a beautiful location, off the beaten track, view of the hills from our room, beautiful grounds. It is a 10 min taxi ride (25 eur) from Campiglia Marittima train station which is accessible from Rome with a fast train (abou 2 hours). There is the Olympic swimming pool, tennis courts (rackets and balls provided), football fields (ball provided). The bicycles are for hire at an extra charge (10 eur per day for city bike) and its just a 10 min cycle down a country road to the beach so you're really getting lots in this holiday - sport, countryside, beach. The guy's working at the bike shop were very friendly. The apartment had all equipment needed eg pots/pans - but no washing up liquid.Would recommend.
The buffet breakfast shown in the photos was only provided IF there was a large sports group booked in and even at that, it was not guarunteed that other resort guests could avail of it. This wasn't very transparent when booking, as it is a resort we assumed there would be full breakfast daily as shown in the photos on booking.com. We got lucky one day and could pay 10 eur pp for the buffet (once the group had already finished with it) which was good, but the next day there was no group and therefore no buffet so we only could get a croissant at the restaurant. It is quite isolated, which makes it pretty and calm, but in terms of food, you're quite stuck. Dinner in the restaurant was good but somewhat pricey. The shop didn't have many options to buy food. Just as an FYI.There were many mosquitos in the area, the hotel sprayed our room upon request and also did a mass spraying of the grounds but I would recommend bringing bug spray/creams if you're any way sensitive!
Location and the apartment
Restaurant and facilities closing far too early
Location is amazing,Restaurant was great. The pools are really enjoyableThe amenities for kids are superStaff was nice
the room we had was apparently nice: decent amount of space, quite bright and with AC. However we quickly realized that the AC system was leaking water and forming a small pool of stagnant water where mosquitos would breen and thrive. No matter how many of them we killed, they kept spawing at an incredible fast rate. Sleeping was really hard, we had to cover the air vents to prevent them from coming out but then the room was getting super hot.
Location is great, close to the small shops. the pool and stuff around are great. Other playgrounds are also fine. Appartment is big and kitchen is well equipped, though cleaning stuff for the kitchen and house was missing,
Lack of cleaning stuff for the house and kitchen, the gym equipment is broken and not maintained well. Very bad and unstable wifi. Basketbaal field is missing, would be great to have it.
Activities available, location close to the beach, quiet place.
Need to login each time to the wifi! Fact that you need to wear a swimming cap in the swimming pool
Loved the space of the apartment, the facilities were brilliant for children, staff very kind and you never felt rushed or crowded. Bike hire staff lovely, swim lifeguards jolly and the lady in the shop is a delight. Laundry facilities incredibly useful and easy to use. Also love the doggy sunbathing area which was highly amusing for our 1 year old. Fantastic stay for a sporty family.
Not a complaint, but it seems bizarre that you had to book the on site restaurant and we were almost turned away despite there only being one table there eating! We think a no booking first come first served policy would serve them better. Also don’t forget a swim hat for the pool! We read reviews and brought some in advance.
Service in Restaurant was very goodQuiet clean facility
no map of facilityno brochure what one can do at facilityshops operating hours unknown
Did not use any since we came for a very short time
Oh my, the toilet! Couldn't understand why it was a toilet for wheelchair use.
The areal was really nice, we could play tenis or table tenis for free. You can bring or borrow the bicycle and go for tours. There is a nice swimming pool, market and ice cream shop. The sand beach is near by car. Near the areal is Populonia train station and markets, pizza and caffeteria. We had a very good time.
The restaurant with swedish breakfast is just for big groups, families could buy only typical italy breakfast. We prefere to have some nice breakfast as omelete, ham and chees, vegetables and fruit. This would be really nice.
