    Pros +

    • The entrance was handicap accessible. The aircon was set at a refreshing temp in our room already. The room was a good size for us.
    • The staff was very flexible and helpful to get accommodated with air conditioning and better place. Also arranged for safe parking during our trip on bike
    • It is located right next to the Canal du Midi. Bike storage is also convenient.

    Cons -

    • We requested and had 2 single beds, which we got. I am a wide guy. The beds were very narrow. There was no coffee maker nor kettle in the room. The parking lot and entrance exterior could use a good refreshing.
    • The room is barely meant for two yet four beds are squeezed into the windowless room with no working air conditioner.
    • There isn't that much to do in Castelnaudery. It is supposedly the French capital of cassoulet but we were not able to find an open restaurant to sample it. The hotel sounded good on paper but was disappointing in reality. It could do with a major renovation but I expect unless there's more to do and see in the town, it would be a wasted effort. We were just passing through on our way to Biarritz so it wasn't a big deal but it would have been nice if the place had turned out to be a hidden gem.

The man at the front desk of the hotel was very helpful. When I realized that the room we had been assigned did not have air conditioning and it was pretty hot that day, he offered us another room, albeit at an additional fee. The first room had a nice view of the canal. The second room did not have much of a view. The room was compact and tight for 2 people. It is an older looking building and the facilities were adequate albeit a little rustic. There was ample parking though the lot was not that well maintained with unkempt bushes around. The town is kind of sleepy and most of the restaurants were closed. We strolled along the Canal du Midi (one of the oldest canals in Europe that is still in operation) and stopped to admire the Grand Bassin. At least the history of the canal is interesting. We paid EUR 12 per person for the breakfast and it was not bad. There was a decent selection of sweet and savory items.

    Bad

Mr. Claude at the reception was really rude with us. I arrived in a wheelchair with a broken leg from a ski accident, and after 3 days if travelling. Mr. Claude made us felt really bad, he was miserable giving us a room on the second floor without elevator. After complaining, we got a room on the ground floor, as far from the reception as possible.Mr. Claude, as he told us was named, was also very rude, impolite, and unrespectful with the Hotel staff as well. Room was very clean. Now I wonder why the 3.7 rating.

Our third visit to this reliably lovely setting right on the Midi. Good breakfast. Room with view of the Midi a few feet away.

We really wish that they'd decide to provide dinner.

We didn't have breakfast. The location is excellent, right on the canal and close to restaurants, shops etc. Also free parking at the hotel.

Great location. Some sitting area outside the breakfast room.

No wifi connection in the room. Surrounding areas / outdoor facilities not cared for hence, non available. Upper floor accessible through stairs only. Front-desk not 24h..

It was quiet and conveniently located for the canal, which I was biking. The rooms were utilitarian but clean and with plenty of space. There was a good breakfast. Staff were helpful.

Manager and staff exceptionally helpful. Coukd walk to town via a side gate access along the canal. An easy 10 min walk. Room faced the Canal du Midi with a wonderful view of the boats moored up. Castelnaudary a friendly little village/town. .

Nothing not to like. We enjoyed our overnight stay.

The hotel is located in a lovely spot, right next to the Canal du Midi in Castelnaudary. It is conveniently located for pedestrian as well as bicycle access to this charming town. The room and facilities were well kept. There is no air conditioning in the rooms, which normally does not matter, because there are fans and easy to open windows. The hotel was the only place where we stayed that still had a bidet, which was charming. The breakfast was delicious and generous.

The owner/manager who checked us in, late on the evening we arrived, was very short with us. He had not read Booking emails I'd sent him telling him we'd be late. He initially was rather curt and ill-tempered, until he realized he'd made a mistake, and that we were actual guests with reservations. He did not apologize for his ill manners that evening, though, to his credit, he attempted to be extra friendly on the other occasions we interacted with him.
