About

This hotel is in a cliff-top castle overlooking the beach of Los Locos and the Bay of Biscay. Its headland location offers spectacular views of the sea and the dramatic coastline. The castle is just 165 ft from the lighthouse of Suances – a tranquil seaside resort on the coast of the Cantabria region. Here you will also find clean, sandy beaches and pleasant green countryside. The castle was originally built in the 19th century by the Baron of Peramola. It now contains 9 rooms designed in a unique, eclectic style, all with fantastic sea views. The area is popular among surfers and bathers for its beaches, which can be easily reached from the hotel. The Altamira Caves, 8 miles away, are famous for some of the earliest cave paintings known to man.

The room was beautiful, spacious and very comfortable. The breakfast was delicious.

The very tight spiral staircase that you had to use to go up 2 flights of stairs. We reconfigured what we needed for overnight and it worked out just fine.

The Castle is a lovely small hotel, looks a bit like a Lego castle from a distance. Some of the rooms have a fantastic sea view with beautiful sunsets, viewed through floor to ceiling windows. Located next to Los Locos Beach, accessed via a steep pathway and steps. Beaches are great and used a lot by surfers due to the perfect waves. Parking is roadside, just outside the hotel, always seems to be plenty of spaces. They accept dogs at an extra cost of 15 euros per night.

Not much to dislike, you may not like the tight spiral staircase to access the rooms, there are no lifts. The toilets for the bar area are not as clean as you would expect.

Breakfast included in price and choice from varied menu was excellentExcellent forecourt overlooking beach. Excellent varied international evening menu choices.

We did not realise access to rooms was via a metal spiral stairway. Not a problem for us or our dog but could be for people with heavy luggage or accessibility issues.

The location is exceptional as were the staff. The menu is limited for a longer stay but the food was very good.

Fabulous location. Dog friendly. Great friendly staff. Comfortable, well appointed room.

Parking is in the road so is not secure which is a concern when travelling with a car full of belongings as we were on our trip from Malaga to England. We didn’t though have any issues. We were looking for more of a restaurant to relax in after a long drive, it’s quite “snacky” food but we did enjoy what we ordered. We wonder what parking would be like in mid/high season. Our stay was 30th November and it was still busy. For the less mobile accessing the bedrooms up the spiral staircase with luggage could be an issue

Loud music audible in the bedroom all day and night until almost midnightSpiral staircase, a nightmare with a dog and bags - and worn knees!Afternoon waiting staff not good

It looked lovely. But I never got to stay in it! I was travelling solo with my elderly dog and no where on the hotel description did it say there was a spiral staircase up to the room!! The staff member managed to relocate me to a partner hotel nearby. Which was fabulous and had a lift!!

    Spiral staircase to access bedrooms

We had an overnight stop on the way to the Santander ferry this is a quirky small hotel with great views over the sea. Friendly staff. The sunset was great and the hotel bar and restaurant was very busy but we were delighted to find that as a guest of the hotel a table was reserved for us and the food was excellent. We were up to see the sunrise from our room and breakfast was also good. The spiral staircase could be an issue for some but we quite liked it. Only on street parking but plenty of it.

Exceptional viewsSome easy and very pleasant short walks nearbyShort drive from airport if that is what you require on first day'

Stairs not suitable for anyone with limited mobiliy but as a retired couple we had no problem.

    The view and location, bar.

Communication was difficult, no one can speak a second language. Good breakfast if you can eat what they offer on the menu, no alternative food for people with intollerances. In a Hotel of this kind, a siruation like this isnt acceptable in 2024!

We had a sea view room and the view was stunning. The climb up two floors on the spiral stairs was a challenge but worth it when you saw the view. The room, bed and bathroom provided everything necessary. Breakfast was provided in the restaurant/cafe downstairs where you can choose a freshly prepared dish of some kind (various egg dishes or tostadas) which came with freshly squeezed orange juice and your choice of coffee or hot drink. It's clearly a popular spot and people flock in throughout the day for drinks and meals while enjoying the sea views or the sunsets.

    The landscape surrounding the hotel.

Our reception/check-in was unprofessional, uninspiring and lengthy. We were kept waiting and not given any useful information concerning the area/places to eat / or even the WiFi code. Our room was basic at best. It was not like the pictures on the website. We left a day early as we were so disappointed. Nobody questioned why we were leaving early. We did not have breakfast as we were not sure as to the cleanliness of the kitchens ( which we were able to witness through the open door during our chaotic check- in ). The" hotel " is not a hotel. It is overpriced and over- rated.

Great location on the seaside and a very good spot for visiting the Cantabria region.

The restaurant can get quite busy during the day, and you might wait quite a while to order.

Location is fantastic . Views are great .

Staircase is very poor with cases to carry ? Bed was low quality . Quite dated furniture . The net was broken from the window. Sockets very awkward to get to . Bathroom but smelly .
