Pros +
- Peaceful, out of the way and beautifully presented. Very quiet room rooms and lovely bed.
- Room was spacious, good views, quiet location, very friendly staff, dog friendly, and nice breakfast.
- The location is great between main towns and amazing view
Cons -
- Big powerlines and towers are very close to the property
- It is quite isolated and if wanting multiple dinner options a drive into Lamego is required. Dinner menu somewhat limited at the hotel. Good views, but it’s unfortunate the power line is omnipresent.
- There was a horrible consistent annoying bipping sound from the AC in all the rooms that basically made us choose between AC and sleeping. The staff was nice but unable to help. Also there was no WIFI Mainly in the rooms. I wouldn’t call it a wine hotel only because they serve wine

This hotel is quietly located in a valley in the Douro region. The landscapes and sceneries are amazing. Our room was cool when we got there. There is only one floor for the rooms. On the ground floor, there is a restaurant, reception and a bar. On the second floor/level, it gives access to the terrace and swimming pool. It's very peaceful on the whole, especially at night. In the bathrooms, there is shampoo, shower gel, body lotion, a soap bar, etc.
The swimming pool is exceptionally smaller than I had hoped. Regardless, it was refreshing on such a hot day. Breakfast isn't very varied. There is an opportunity to improve here, for instance, by offering a range of local or homemade products (jam, bread, etc.) Orange juice was very delicious though! :)
The views were incredible
Upon arrival, we were informed that it was too late to make reservations at the on-site restaurants. Given the treacherous condition of the roads—especially at night—we didn’t feel comfortable trying to venture out and find an alternative restaurant offsite. The hotel is relatively small, with only 20 rooms, and our group occupied 4 of them. It was surprising and disappointing that we were unable to dine in the restaurants and instead had to eat at the bar on stools. The bar food itself was acceptable overall. However, a serious issue arose when my youngest son was served dessert topped with spoiled whipped cream. I tasted it myself and it was clearly sour. While they did remove the dessert from our bill, more should have been done to address the situation.Additionally, 2 of the 4 rooms had ants in the beds and bathrooms. Though staff did spray, it was clear that the problem was more widespread and not fully resolved.Overall, the experience was quite disappointing. While the price point wasn’t particularly high, better care and attention to detail should still be expected. On a positive note, two out of the three front desk staff members were very kind and genuinely tried to help. One woman, who also served dinner at bar, bartender, pool tender and attempted to address the ant issue, was especially helpful and kind. Unfortunately, the third staff member (female) was not as welcoming. I regret not getting their names. The third gentleman in the morning was very nice as well.
Good view from the hotel, clean rooms.
Wifi is always below 2MBP/s (super slow), staff is kind but unprepared and there is no restaurant for lunch, only for dinner. Air Conditioning system is noisy and the room has bad lighting.
We loved the view by the pool. It was nice to sit out and watch the sunset. We appreciated that we were able to get a drink there. The prices of the drinks were very reasonable.
The number one complaint is the food. It is truly inedible. Given the setup in Douro, we ate at the hotel the first night. The menu is extremely limited, and so I ordered seafood pasta. I got (honestly!) over cooked macaroni, thinned out Campbell's tomato soup, and a few overcooked pieces of seafood. I was unable to eat the meal, and it cost 24 Euros. Expensive by Douro Valley standards. The food was so bad, that the next day we went to a grocery store and bought buns and cold cuts to make our own dinner. Breakfast was not good either. The hotel room has a portable safe - in other words, you can take the safe with you when you leave the room. There were no facilities for us to leave our passports while we toured. There were only 2 staff members who were run off of their feet and looked exhausted. They served drinks, meals, attended reception, tended the bar, looked after the pool. The bathroom was very hard to use, I almost slipped several times. The beds were not comfortable. The hotel feels like "lipstick on a pig". It looks nice, but isn't actually functional.
excellent wine
Noise from neighbors.only 1 lamp by the bed, should be 2.dinner too expensive.
Closed to the nature
Can’t sleep all night, annoying noise from the A/C pipes, even if you are not using
Wonderful location in a vineyard in Duoro valley. Breathtaking views of the hills and vines. Relaxing atmosphere.
Different menus every night was nice and food good, but overpriced. Pool not open and surrounding needs sone TLC.
Location, very lovely dogs ?, electric charger, modern and comfortable room, temperature controls in room. Good parking space. Nice staff.
Breakfast could be better.
The location and rooms are good
The only friendly were housekeepers, we came to spend the new year eve, and even we were not promised anything except the dinner - it was really poorly organized, and overpriced for the quality we got
Great location on the hills of Douro valley. Modern hotel with friendly service and greta view from the rooms.
Nothing to say.
good reception and check in, the room was good and clean and with good view to the river. Breakfast had a good selection of products to choose from.
the access to the hotel os tight and parking good be better signalled, specially when best arrive during the night is difficult to see
location , service, breakfast and dinner, great room
Quiet scenic location
A little out of the way. Hydro lines are unappealing if your room faced them.
Nice place
We didn’t know that we should reserve a spot for the wine tasting in advance. When we arrived they couldn’t find us a spot.
It’s very high up and quiet. The breakfast was pretty good, a lot of choice.
The room has a constant white noise, don’t know where it come from. But it’s not too big of the problem. The drive up to the hotel was pretty long.
Staff
Photos in booking and in reality are completely different. Very dirty, spiders in the room. The hotel needs to be renovated.A pole with a power line is located on the territory of the hotel, which is very dangerous for health
Quinta de Casaldronho's modern design situated in a vineyard with views across the Duoro valley and Regua was delightful. The room was compact, yet comfortable. We enjoyed a simple, but somewhat more expensive dinner at the hotel. (We were glad not to be driving the twisty hillsides at night.) The staff were quite friendly and helpful.
