Herberg Oud Holset

This inn is located in the small village of Holset – little more than a few streets in a beautiful hilly landscape. We arrived here after a lovely walk and spent the afternoon on the terrace. It works on a self-service basis: you write down what you use and settle the bill when you leave.The restaurant was unfortunately closed, but you can dine at the neighboring restaurant or order food and make use of the dining facilities in the inn itself (which is what we did).The innkeeper was no longer present from late afternoon onwards, so you’re left in the building with only the other guests. This felt a bit unusual at first, but it actually worked out just fine. The rooms, beds, and bathroom were very comfortable, and the next morning a delicious breakfast buffet was served. All in all, a very pleasant experience!

The inn is located right next to the church. Our room was on the church side, where the bell rings once every half hour and, on the hour, the number of times corresponding to the time. The bells were quite loud at night and made it a bit harder to sleep, so light sleepers may want to bring earplugs (or ask for a room at the back of the inn).

Breakfast was decent. Location was good. Ample and secure parking. Quiet and green area. Close to Aachen and Maastricht Christmas market with a scenic route.

Very noisy floor. No fixed checkout time, it's stated 11:00 in booking but asked to leave earlier. Shower is not optimal. Lights in room are very dim. Towels were quite rough.

Nice location. Friendly staff. Loved breakfast and dinner. Great draft beer. You really get a lot for what you pay.

These are only small annoyances, and I think they could be easily improved:WiFi was OK (stable), but not really fast. There is water heater and tea bags in the room which is great, but there are only paper cups provided. Glass or at least plastic ones would be much better.

Comfortable and spacious room, good breakfast, easy parking, very enjoyable dinner. Dogs welcome. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Location is superb, staff very friendly, but it is the food (breakfast and dinner) which were very poor.

We liked that the room was away from the main restaurant. The food was amazing! Staff are friendly.

No charging station for electric car. But they do have it for e-bike.
