    Pros +

    • Beautiful location and great proximity to the waterfall hike. Charming historic buildings.
    • Charming, quiet, nicer than expected. While it wasn't a long walk to 'town' it was nice that they would drive us with our luggage for a very reasonable price. The cost of the room was VERY reasonable.
    • Great location. Easy walk to the train, boats, and waterfall. Great old building. Other reviewers whined about the narrow stairs, but that was part of the historic charm of the place. My room had views of the mountains, fields, and town.

    Cons -

    • The walk to the hostel was longer than we expected from the city center. Also, there is a difference between the hostel rooms and the apartments in that they are in completely separate buildings. All of this is fine, but needs to be conveyed up front.
    • The people in the room below us were talking a lot, and the walls were very thin. They charge extra for the use of towels.
    • The WI-FI kept requiring me to log in over and over. It was supposed to send me a link to verify, but it never worked for me. Fortunately, I was able to log on just long enough to do the important stuff.

The room was not the room picured. I was overcharged, then charged for sheets which turned out to be nothing more than a duvet cover. The room was dirty, the staff was inept. In all my years of traveling this is the only negative feedback I've ever left.

The hostel itself is very clean. They have a cute vibe and the rooms are also very tidy. They also provide you a towel. We stayed at the third floor, but the rooms are spread throughout the 1st~3rd floor. Bathrooms are only located on the first and second floors.

The location of the hostel is not the same as you saw it on the google map. You have to walk a bit more, and we had some difficulty when finding the hostel for the first time. Also the kitchen and common area is very very cold in winter. The rooms upstairs are not cold as much as the first floor, but it is still cold. The bathrooms are clean but not all of them have a hair dryer. We would have been more happy if there was more description about the hostel.

The room was really cute and spacious. Check-in experience was great, super kind staff. Location was great with a small farm close by with nordic cows.

Nothing that we didn't like. Everything was up to or exceeded expectations.

    Clean sheets and towels

Would not return. Pretty far walk from pier if you have luggage. Very narrow creaky staircase and floors so you can hear everyone moving all the time. Thin walls so you hear all your neighbors. 1 nice shared bathroom but also 1 disgusting shared bathroom and too many rooms shared the bathrooms so if you have a time constraint to get to a boat or train at a certain time you are subject to other people’s bathroom schedules. Kitchen floor was sticky. Not even a hook on the wall in the bedroom to hang a towel or anything, or a mirror. Literally just the mattresses. Very overpriced but in Flam all accommodations are overpriced since there isn’t much competition. We were very happy to leave and actually wish we didn’t bother staying overnight in Flam. We were there in July and it was 47 degrees F and raining with low clouds obstructing the fjords so this area is very subject to the weather. We spent a lot of time and money to get to Flam and kind of regret it.

The only thing I liked was the free Wi-Fi. There was nothing else that I liked.

I was in the hostel dormitory. This property also has apartments. In the hostel dormitory, they converted an old attic into rooms. The stairs to the attic were extremely steep, they were uneven, and exceptionally dangerous. It was like climbing a ladder. I had to use my hands to climb up. The bathroom was on the ground and second floor and I was on the third floor and made it challenging and dangerous every time I needed to use the bathroom. On my last day as I was taking my bags down from my room, I lost my balance a little and I banged my elbow against the wall and now it’s bruised and very sore. There was nothing about these steep stairs when I booked this accommodation. Very deceptive advertising and I actually want my money back. It was very expensive for bare minimum amenities precarious stairs.

    Beautiful location, clean and comfortable

The light in the upstairs bathroom was difficult to turn on and off.

The room and building were clean. Communication of what to expect was good.

Pretty expensive for a hostel but you're paying for the view and the location

The Hostel is right under a big waterfall which makes it a beautiful location to wake up to.

The shared room I stayed in was basically a big room in a house with very old bunk beds (without curtains - just bunk beds). The bunk beds were making noise when climbing them up, there were no lockers for personal things and the walls/doors are not very well isolated so when there is noise in the common area, one can hear it a lot.

The house was very cute. It had everything you need - kitchen, shower rooms, bathroom, nice private twin room.

It was very far from the train station. Quite a little walk.

    7YI-TINGPosted on: 1-19-2026

The hostel has a kitchen with a fridge.

The hostel does not provide a hairdryer. The location is a bit far from the railway station, so carrying your suitcase for 20 minutes might be tiring.

    Friendly staff and clean accommodation.

Overpriced rooms for accommodation with shared toilet. Rooms were spartan, just to two beds with no extra furniture. Had to leave our bags on the floor. The lights on one of the toilets did not work. The shower compartment on the other bedroom leaked and flooded the bathroom.

The hostel itself was new - felt like it was recently renovated. Was clean and quiet and we had goats nearby to ogle. Was only a 15 minute walk to downtown Flam, and the walk was very pleasant. No issues with the hostel itself, got what I expected.

The reason for such a low overall rating is the staff. We arrived a bit early and asked if we could leave our luggage behind in the reception. The person behind the desk was on her phone and didn't make eye contact, and eventually said "go away" without answering the question. So we left our luggage in a cupboard, and I later saw a sign that seemed to say that would be okay. We were going to return later in the evening, but we got a message that the reception was going to close an hour early unexpectedly. I had to borrow another tourist's phone to call Brekke Gard to see if we could still pick up our luggage, since we wouldn't be able to make it back in time. I asked them why they were closing early and they said "it just is". I asked them to keep our luggage in a safe place and they kept repeating "we are not responsible for lost luggage" which was not an answer to my question. The tourist whose phone I was borrowing said "woah, she seemed like she was having a bad day". There was just a complete lack of caring or desire to problem-solve on the part of the Brekke Gard employee, for a problem that they created in the first place.Eventually things did work out, and the hostel itself was lovely.

A great historic Norwegian farmhouse 300 years old and updated to be comfortable. The patio faced away from the road and toward the mountain and waterfall.

We took the wrong route getting there and were walking from the train station with rolling suitcases. Perhaps the directions needed to be a bit clearer on how to get to the correct initial road.

Hostel house was lovely and the bed was very cozy, with good curtains to separate beds.

Only two bathrooms for the whole house. Made for some waiting times. Not terrible, just not my favourite.

    Really good hostel facilities

They let you know in case you need a trasportation or something else to contact them by email or text message but dont reply on phones, texts, emails. Very unprofessional

I've stayed inthe hostel. A lovely farm house, the perfect amount of new and old. There is a waterfall very close and it part of the backgound. It you are lucky you could see northern light since it "far" from the town. They provide linen(already in the bed placed) and towel and nice space and shelves for each bed. Great shared bath. I must say i when in off season so there was not much people. Nice kitchen. I loved it.

Some electricity plug were not working and one of the kitchen stoves.

Such a unique little wooden hostel. Beautiful location. The sounds from the kitchen could be noisy but everyone was in bed for 9 pm so it was ok.
