    Pros +

    • I was looking for a ski lodge (in the summer) with a 70s/80s vibe, and I got it. Reviewers had complained that the place sorely needed an update, but the vintage interiors (not so much deliberately 'vintage' as coincidentally the same sofas, carpets and curtains they've had for decades, or so it seemed) were part of the charm for me and exactly why I booked this place. It was like traveling back in time. At the same time, everything was clean and in perfect working condition. The lobby was large and very lively and the breakfast offerings were extensive. I was delighted to catch a glimpse of the two grey estate cats scampering across the parking lot and into the trees. The cats were also part of the reason I chose Venabu, although they are not allowed into the building itself.
    • A very comfortable hotel in the old style, with tea and coffee always available in the communal sitting area.Excellent food in the restaurant. Super breakfast.
    • Polite staff and a nice view out of the window, location.

    Cons -

    • The place seemed to be popular with tour groups and as such, almost every breakfast table was reserved when we went down for breakfast even though the hall was huge. It's one thing for tables to be mostly occupied, but another for them to be reserved but empty. We would have appreciated a warning to reserve our breakfast tables in advance like most guests seemed to have done. This was okay, but I was devastated that I didn't get to see more of Emil and Ida, the resident cats who lead very happy lives.
    • The hotel is cozy, but the facilities are really really old. In our room, flushing the toilet splashed water on the bathroom floor, which was weird.
    • Property is dated and could do with updating, restaurant menu is fixed for evening meal.

The restaurant, 3 course dinner and the breakfast was very good. Easy to access from the road and interior was very cozy. Very nice stay.

A big hotel but still quite. A very cosy living room.

Poor public transport to the hotel.

Views, solitude. Book in advance for great evening meal. Good breakfast

The room and facilities were clean and comfortable. The dinner was exceptional, the breakfast above average. All in all, a good value.

There isn't much to criticize. One could always be satisfied with greater luxury and more amenities, but for a Norwegian mountain hotel, it matched the template perfectly.

location, sightseeing(sunset can be seen from our window), yard, breakfast, staff, singer, all

Beautiful surroundings, friendly staff and excellent breakfast!

A bit noisy with people playing music and loud conversations which carry a long way

Nice located, good accommodation and base to start hiking daytrips in the area.Excellent breakfast, good food overall.Very friendly staff (special thanks to Thomas who was able to arrange dinner for us including a vegetarian option even on late notice)

This was our third stay at the fjellhotell. The location high on the mountains makes you come back, as well as the excellent food and the warm reception. This year, there was a special offer for dinner with exquisite specialities from around the region. Highly recommended.

    The location.

The room, old, noise. The dinner, expencive buy a hot dog.

Great location up high on the mountain plateau. The staff super friendly. there was great atmosphere in the bar with someone performing on the piano and singing and people getting tipsy and enjoying themselves. Importantly for me the blinds in the room were decently dark which helps a light sleeper sleep in norway when it doesn't really get dark at night. Breakfast was great with a good selection diy buffet.

The only con for me was i could hear people in the corridor when in my room as there were people drinking in the bar and going back to their rooms fairly late. But i'm used to sleeping with earplugs at hotels as im a bit of a light sleeper so it wasn't a big issue.
