Pros +
- Wonderful staff Fantastic restaurant
- It was so cool to stay in a castle and the place was very clean!
- The property was nicely maintained and very clean. The team was absolutely wonderful.
Cons -
- Nothing to take away from them
- The property was very nice but parking was a little tricky and the castle itself was pretty remote and somewhat hard to find.
- The rooms were pricey for something that isn’t soundproof. And the circus was in town so my upgraded room faced the city center were the circus was happening until I went to complain and they finally stopped the noise past midnight. From midnight to 6am everything was quiet but at 6am the traffic noise was another absolute nightmare and we basically slept from past midnight to 6am.

The Receptionist was lovely. Most helpful in discussing many general things including identifying the local industry and life in Portugal. Location offers free parking close to entrance. Elevator available to room levels. The bedroom was MOST LOVELY, bedding amazing comfort. Period furnishings, wall decor and opererable windows with period encasements. Felt like a princess. Did not take opportunity but viewed lovely period gardens and pool.
Visiting off season so guests were limited. Always like to meet/greet other travelers.
Lovely, well-kept 15th-century castle and gardens. Our family of 5 had two adjoining rooms. Very spacious, clean, and comfortable. Enjoyed our dinner in the restaurant as well.
Since we were the only people staying in the castle the first night, they prepared us individual breakfasts that were delicious. We ate at the breakfast buffet the second morning. There were many food options and everything was delicious. We enjoyed dinner at the property both nights.
The property is far from other options for food or drinks. The air conditioner didn't keep the room cold and the intense smell of the olive oil plant at night made it difficult to sleep with the windows open.
Beautiful building and grounds with a lovely pool
2 of only 3 fish dishes not available on small menu
Historic building with a fabulous restaurant.
The bathroom plumbing was dodgy and I had to unplug the empty fridge in my room as it kept me awake.
The property located in an old castle with nice and green courtyard. Absolutely amazing experience staying in the castle.
We booked a dinner at their restaurant for our anniversary. And when we came, it was a buffet with very oily, poorly cooked meat, halfway cooked potatoes, etc. We were disappointed. It’s better to eat somewhere else.
Spacious rooms and very good breakfast
Pool only open from 11.30 (crazy in high season). No complimentary water on the room, no coffee/tea facilities on the room. No terrace where you can smoke. For this room price one expects more than this.
The garden is pleasing with a decent size pool.
Service was terrible. This was my second stay and last one at this property. The receptionist was the rudest person i ever seen at any hotel. For instant, at some point my wife got stuck inside the room as she unable to unlock the chain and when i requested for assistance she was sighing enphatically rolling her eyes at me. I guess i interrupted her while she was watching her show on netflix. The food was appaling and although we were all hungry we barely touched the food. We ordered a bottle of wine that was brought to the table when we were nearly finished. I had to ask for my son's ice tea 5 TIMES. Good luck tryimg to get the waiters attention. They are experts in avoyimg eye contact. Breakfast is decent, apart from what they called coffee. I ordered also 1 round of cocktails (caipirinhas) that tasted horribly - i believe the limes were off and there was almost no cachaça in it. I have not seen a single person smilling throughout my stay.
I like the property and the staff which is very friendly, polite and professional. The property is an old castle, just beautiful! The food is delicious and wines are of great quality too.I will book again for this property, no doubt.Keep up the good work! :)
Nothing to report.
Historic building with modern facilities, while retaining its authenticity. Sympathetic garden and large pool. Beautifully decorated bedroom and a quiet nights sleep. Nestled in the heart of Alvito.
Lovely hotel inside a castle! Gardens are beautiful. Breakfast was good. Staff exemplary! Nice little bar in the square just steps from the hotel.
Nice building, great room and viewNice pool and garden
Breakfast not very good in terms of taste and choice. Bed is okay but it feels like an older mattress.Swimming pool is nice but quite dirty because of many pigeons
Typical continental foods. Could have had egg’s option and a few fresh veggies . Coffee was terrible tasting☹️Our stay here was relaxed and stress free!!l
Early morning coffee/tea service for those of us up early would have been a bonus!
What’s not to like, a beautiful old castle with a beautiful grounds, even a pool, quiet, tranquil, special.
Personally, I didn’t like the double bed, which was uncomfortable and hard. The linens were very good, but the mattress itself was not.
Very cool to stay the night in a castle this old, staff were very friendly and helpful. Alvito is a very small community and is very quiet. It was nice to experience this little community and get off the main tourist path for a while.
Location and historic building
No tea and coffee facilities. Not a particularly warm welcome on arrival. No details of bar/restaurant opening or what was available (menu).
Averything was perfect except one serious malfunction
The bathroom, wonderfull as it was, had a serious malfunction There were not kold water in the shower - so no shower for me on morning of departure since the water was boiing hosEverything else was fine
