    • I loved the bed-and-breakfast vibe, like you¿re staying in a cool old house instead of a hotel. The bed was also VERY comfortable. And the soap/shampoo smelled awesome.
    • This lodging is just lovely! The setting, surrounded by the mountains, is beautiful and the lodge spaces are beautiful and welcoming. We loved the little balcony off our room, as we could see the horses in the fields and amazing sunsets. The food at the hotel’s restaurant was fantastic. Everything was fresh and flavorful. We especially loved the fresh breads at breakfast and dinner. We did book a two hour riding tour. This experience was wonderful. Our guide was very knowledgeable about Icelandic horses. We loved this experience.
    • Nice location

    Cons -

    • When I turned off the lights in my room at night, it seemed to turn off every single outlet in the room. This was a convenient way to turn off all the lamps at once, but it meant I couldn¿t charge my phone/electronics while sleeping.
    • Room facing service area with trucks waking us up before 7am
    • Breakfast wasn’t kept warm. If you wanted to have breakfast closer to 10, it was cold.

EVERYTHING! The views, the service, the horses this hotel was definitely amazing and recommend staying here even for a night!

First time in Iceland and we planned to spend a night on the south shore. Looked at a few places and chose this one based on location and the online pics. It was a great experience. Everyone on the staff was friendly. The horseback riding we did was fabulous. The dinner exceeded all expectations. Don’t know what else. Don’t have anything bad to say. Would definitely go again. Oh, and the spa was great too!

Everything. Would not change a thing. Favorite stay of the trip. Horseback riding tour was amazing. Staff is amazing.

Breakfast wasn’t kept warm. If you wanted to have breakfast closer to 10, it was cold.

Dramatic location in that it was backed up again a mountainside, dedicated hot tub and spa building with sauna etc, clean friendly staff

Honestly it was fairly expensive for what it was. Yes it was a nice looking building, and the mountain and what not and if you’re there for horseback riding that probably helps but for just a place to stay for a night or two it was a little on the expensive side and the food for dinner was nothing to write home about. I’ve read other reviews where they rave about the dining experience. That wasn’t our take away. Perfectly fine but definitely not exceptional and again expensive in relation to its quality. Both my wife and I barely finished half of our meal to which the waitress showed some expression of “was everything alright?” The short answer again was it was fine but it was trying really hard to be more than it was and in that attempt it lost its main focus. Random colored sauces that were not additive, overly peppered, and vegetables that were on the charred side. Best part of the meal were the carrots frankly. I think they were able to withstand the overcooking better. My wife had a vegetarian meal -broccoli with other vegetables - and this is going to sound worse than it was but she described it as “essentially cafeteria food”. I’m sure that was an overstatement but when you’re laying $50 for some sautéed vegetables that doesn’t feel great. Breakfast which was included was better - mostly because it was included - but again nothing special, cured meats, cheeses, hard oiled eggs, juice, mostly unripe fruit, bacon.

Everything was perfect. Especially, the staff, the spa, the dinner, the horses, the location, the cleanliness. Was really comfortable and among the nicer places we stayed in Iceland.

The rooms were on the small side but manageable.

The location & Views of the property itself are Amazing, The Staff is INCREDIBLE - Kind, Helpful, Polite and you can tell they really love this place and care. Dinner was really great I was impressed for a smaller boutique experience. The property was clean and smelled good which is impressive considering it's on a House Ranch. The Horses were beautiful to watch as they let out and brought in etc.

I only had one option for a room when I booked. I'm sure that was because it was the only one left (So happy I was able to get it). I would have done a larger room if one was available. There was a wedding party staying in most or all of the other rooms. There were a few of them that were a little full of themselves and a bit much to have around lol but that has nothing to do with this beautiful place and we had a great time :)

Skalakot manor was everything we’d imagined and more! Everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful and the accommodations were perfection. Great location, loved the hot tub and sauna on site as well as the horseback riding.

This is a beautiful hotel with delicious food and the softest sheets we experienced in Iceland. The spa is heavenly and the horses are beautiful. The location is also excellent and the property is lovely.

The prices for the rooms were rather steep, and the layout of some parts of the hotel was a bit awkward.

Loved the nature scenery around the manor and beautiful landscape. We loved the access to the cozy spa and nice breakfast. Room had a beautiful interior!!

There was a bit of a urine smell in the bathroom that we stayed in and it had a stronger smell as we took a shower.

    10PatrickPosted on: 3-8-2025

The breakfast was lovely. The staff was courteous and accommodating.

We were a little hot in the night, but otherwise very comfortable.

    10CherylPosted on: 3-2-2025

We drove past several inns and hotels that lacked the charm and easy comfort of Skalakot. Although a new building it felt like a family home and the staff though few in off season were so welcoming and accommodating. The spa building is lovely and clean with sauna and a nice hot pool. The masseuse is exceptionally skilled. We loved being on a horse farm where the owner family lives onsite in separate housing. The cocktails and dinners were really special, generous and beautifully prepared. Even better than Reykjavik and it was one of our reasons to stay there. People not staying at the hotel are welcome to make reservations. We would have liked to have spent more than two nights to really slip into the slow pace of the countryside. The hotel is perfectly located in the southeast with daytrips to the waterfalls, viewpoints and black sand beaches at Vik. We look forward to coming back when the fields will be green instead of covered with snow.

The hotel is small and in the off season was wonderfully quiet. In season I can imagine the layout may feel full. But that would be true anywhere.

    Lovely staff

Shame that booking treatments was so difficult despite being told in advance it wouldn’t be

Far and away the best place we stayed in Iceland (and we stayed in some nice places!) This gorgeous, family-run manor house was full of charm and coziness -- truly nothing anodyne about it. The staff was so lovely and the food was phenomenal. We would return to southern Iceland just to stay here again.

The rooms aren't fully soundproof if people are making noise in the hallway, but to be expected in a big old house like this.

Just an amazing hotel surrounded with beautiful nature. Spa and sauna was cozy and clean the room was beautiful with a great view. Being a smaller hotel they have a great restaurant with a great chef cudos. We would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a peaceful and relaxing stay with the upmost care and professionalism of the staff.

    Absolutely nothing.

Lovely venue in an extraordinary landscape with pleasant efficient staff. We were there during snowstorm in winter and felt safe and taken care of. The food was superior.

Nothing to complain about at all
