Pros +
- You are transported. It is so quiet and beautiful, almost surreal. Love, love, loved it.
- The architectural and landscape design, the free-pickup bikes, the horses and dunkeys
- We could not have asked for a more pleasant stay. The property is truly magical - from starting your day with fresh produce for breakfast, getting sun-kissed at the lawn pool to ending the night under the stars with a glass of wine.
Cons -
- No one welcomed us until (almost entered) the reception. The Check-in progress was too long and tiresome. We had a long drive and all we wanted was to get the room and relex. Instead of this, we had a lecture about the farm, fake attention. it took almost 45 minutes to get the room from the minute we arrived. More than that, although they had my cardentials, I had to give them my credit card details again.. The room was dissapointed with old-look style that felt more like a farm, less than a 5-star hotel. The room was on the ground floor with "semi private" terrace - a public terrace...The reason we picked this place was the amount of activities they offer. We were shocked to find out, only when we arrived, that all of the acctivities cost Alot of money! Extra to the high price we paid (580€) on the low season. The activities were the reason for picking this hotel. Most of them cost 80€ and up, per person. Even the olive tasting and an explanation of the history of the farm cost 50€ PER PERSON!The dinner was tasty buy expensive, the breakfast was lack of vegtables and salmone (in an organic farm, they didnt have any fresh vegtables!). The room was too dark. The shower floor was dark and covered with dirty Terracota tiles.
- a kids room with some books and toys would be a good alternative for rainy days
- Seating outside the cottage was very poor. Also, seating in the restaurant and outside bar area were uncomfortable. Old fashioned bathroom/ shower. Impossible to book spa treatments on site despite the fact that when visiting the spa area no staff were present. Lastly, prices in the shop were extortionate.

perfect atmosphere, great staff, amazing food, wine, even the souvenir store is great
a kids room with some books and toys would be a good alternative for rainy days
Beautiful place carefully restored to preserve the history of the estate. Staff is extremely friendly and offer hospitality no other 5 star hotel offers! We will definitely come back to enjoy it again
The hotel and the whole area it covers with the vast agricultural area is quite exceptional. The rooms are plain but still elegant. It is a very tranquil place that has a lot to offer especially for families. The whole staff is amazing, they were helpful with everything we needed.
Quiet and peaceful. Staff were attentive and saw to our every need. Food at the restaurant was excellent
Location, felt spacious, overal feel of the place was nice. Comfortable bed. Outstanding breakfast. Staff were very helpful and valet service/ turndown was great

I really loved my stay here. Very relaxing, the house was simply decorated, rustic, but to a high standard. Everything thought of, water, fruit and snacks all included. The pool area was really great. Then visited the winery and had a tasting. Learnt a lot about the locality.
Nothing!
Beautiful property with understated elegance. Pools were beautiful, trails were ok not much to see
Price was not a good value for meals and drinks
Architecture and hospitality and serene atmosphere
Lots of kids by the pool and it was hard to relax. I would suggest to build a separate pool for kids.
From the moment we arrived, we were overwhelmed by the warmth and hospitality of the hotel team. The attention to detail throughout our stay was remarkable, making us feel both pampered and at home. Our family had a wonderful time exploring the wide range of activities availableFrom the exceptional food to the top-notch facilities, everything exceeded our expectations.
The hotel is beautiful and the level of service is really high. There’s a lot to do and the staff is super-helpful.
Even if they were all really nice, some of the members of the staff did not have sufficient training to be guides to make the tour around the hotel (lots of information missing). Also, the two bar menus are quite limited (even for a bar).
The hotel had a magnificent view of the sunrise/sunset with nature surrounding us.The food there were also organically made from the nature around which made it even better
The atmosphere, location and helpful staff were perfect.
The choice of gluten free options was limited apart from breakfast. I had to suggest dessert options myself. Also we were disappointed by the condition of the bath robes and slippers which we felt are probably due for replacement.
Wow, what a gem of a hotel. This is a truly spectacular property that exceeded even our high expectations. The staff and service were fantastic and the place gives you an immediate sense of calm. The surroundings are absolutely stunning. What we also appreciated was that the food, drinks and activities were not overpriced, so you left feeling like you were not taken advantage of, which can be the case for a lot of high end hotels. The food was delicious and in beautiful settings.
No complaints!
Beautiful property with the most amazing decor. All the details were well thought through. Top comfort beds and linen, beautiful accommodations, fantastic common areas, great staff. There are not enough superlatives to describe São Lourenço do Barrocal. On a one to ten scale, they would be eleven!
Magnificent staff, location, property, food, wine, olive oil, activities. Truly one of the leading hotels of the world, even if they weren’t in that consortium.
Nothing. Loved it all!
Room was very spacious with large bathroom.Lovely terrace where we had an excellent dinner via room service one evening.Very peaceful with friendly and efficient staff.Pool and grounds amazing although it was too hot to explore them as much as we would have liked!
More variation of vegetarian options in main restaurant. No strong tea eg English Breakfast
