Pros +
- The location, renovated facilities and room.
- The hotel was lovely and within the walled city of Marvao. The bed was comfortable and everything was very clean. The breakfast was delicious. There were several restaurants close by. There was also parking at the hotel. I would highly recommend.
- Very clean room with a comfortable bed. Nice view from our roomVery good breakfast
Cons -
- The room’s sideview to parking was not as expected.
- Just be aware there is no lounge. Breakfast only OK, please cook eggs fresh buy better ham
- Breakfast. Orange juice from a pack, really ? In a country flooded with fresh oranges.. The breakfast was very easy, for them. Very limited. Also the young lady who served was grumpy. Very uncommon for Portuguese people. Maybe she had a bad night or she did not feel like working. Everything seemed to much for her. Gen Z also in Portugal ?

Owners are flexible. We asked for another room with slightly different specs. They changed it without ado. I made a mistake in ordering my food. Turned out to be with shell fish instead of the variety with bread as I expected. They changed it without hassle. I felt a bit ashamed ( not by their response but my own stupidity ), so I grossly over tipped them.

The hotel was spotless not a speck of dust anywhere. The view was amazing. The 1 downside was the fridge in the room did not work.
We were in Marvão on April 4-6 for weekend hikes in the area and it was a pleasure to find such hospitality from this amazingly warm and friendly couple who ran the place. They made every effort to go above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and satisfied with the facilities and the excellent level of service. We will definitely return for another stay and highly recommended the El Rei Dom Manuel to anyone visiting the area.
This was a nice family-run hotel that was extremely clean and located in the beautiful little hill town of Marvao. The only thing was, we couldn't see the scenery because the weather was so foggy and rainy!!! The hotel had a great restaurant serving good food so it was nice to not have to find a place to eat. The breakfast had everything you could want.
There was nothing I didn't like.
The hotel is beautiful and exceptionally clean. We enjoyed all the spaces it offered. Our room was comfortable, the breakfast was generous and delicious. We also had a wonderful dinner here.
The location was excellent & the staff was wonderful . . . very responsive & helpful! The breakfast offered a variety of options & was very good. We loved that there was very convenient parking right by the hotel!! The location was great in that it was close to restaurants & a little bar with a wonderful views for our afternoon sangria!!
That we didn't stay longer here!!
Beautiful hotel. Great location if you have a car. Fantastic breakfast. Host is great. Loved our stay there.
The dinner was outstandingly great with a wonderful waiterThe breakfast was very nice with little homespun touches like fresh local jam and freshly made pumpkin bread.
Everything was just fine.
Breakfast was very good: hot meal, coffee, juices and fresh bread. I’m not a big eater though, so can’t vouch for those fans of continental style. Location couldn’t be better, complete immersive experience in the medieval times. Room was spacious and quiet, with cabinets full of warm blankets and pillows. Bathroom is clean, all essentials were there. Sr. Manuel is courteous and accommodating. We felt welcomed in the hotel.
Nicely decorated. Clean. Good value. Parking
Very small quiet village but our room / window was above the road into village. Could also hear loud kitchen exhaust fan through window
Location is excellent. The owner checked us in and was extremely friendly and helpful. The room was fantastic- the view spectacular. When I say spectacular, that does not begin to describe the view. Restaurant on site- very good
Nothing- this little place exceeded our expectations.
Everything went very well. This is one of the most comfortable hotels in Marvão. The location and staff are both excellent. I recommend booking a room with a view of the valley — you will never forget that view!
The building is very old, with all the corresponding nuances — small rooms, small windows and doors, etc. However, the renovation has been done well.
We especially liked the location within the castle walls. The owner upgraded us to a room with great views from the hotel window. The staff are very friendly and kind, as were the owners who were there everyday. Having an elevator and walk-in shower, was a major factor in our decision. The included breakfast has a variety of options including local and fresh traditional ingredients. We were also happy with the dinners in the restaurant. We highly recommend the hotel and hope we can return one day.
Location is beautiful. Very clean. Staff v friendly.
Air con ineffective. We had meal in the restaurant, it was more expensive than other places we stayed. No bread or anything? Most give this free?
Spotlessly clean everywhere-faultless.Welcome warm and helpful. View from room breathtaking.
Let down by hotel restaurant, where despite booking for dinner, we were left standing at the entrance, eventually choosing our own table to sit whilst staff fawned over a large table of Americans. Only contact with grumpy waiter was two words in passing "English menu?", we would have left but there were no other choices in town not having made a booking elsewhere. After our meal the grumpy waiter took bank card from my hand and tapped the screen without showing me the price on there. Don't remember the food, glad to leave restaurant.
It was clean, friendly staff and well located in a beautiful village.
