Pros +
- Exquisite location perched on a steep hill overlooking the sea, with lots of steps from spotless comfortable rooms taking you down to the sea edge and magical swimming, delicious meals, wonderful service. A little ferry goes into town for restaurants and shopping, but no food there is as good as at hotel. Recommend also a visit to Firnaz Fish Shack (ask staff) across the bay, simple Turkish food in an authentic setting and a gracious welcome from the host. Thank you to all the kind staff who helped make our stay so relaxing.
- Staying at Hotel Villa Mahal was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had! The hotel is incredibly beautiful, peaceful, and feels like a little hidden PARADISE!The views are absolutely STUNNING. The staff were all AMAZING. My room was just WOW. The beach platform and the pool area — NO WORDS how beautiful. Their dinner by the water is something OUT OF THIS WORLD. I’m very impressed with this hotel and I hope I’ll come back one day
- A beautiful hotel with extraordinary views and ambiance. It's amazingly peaceful, set high above crystal clear waters, and cascading down, in multiple levels, down to the sea. With dining on platforms set just above the water level, you feel like you're eating literally on the surface of the Mediterranean. A wonderful Oasis from the World.
Cons -
- Nothing. If you don’t like steps you can get a lift in golf carts.
- There are a lot of stone stairs to negotiate. We never used the available cart service provided, to reach the top, preferring the exercise involved in returning to our room.
- Almost everything was perfect. Yet, although the Restaurant Staff was very friendly they were overwhelmed by the number of clients. Property needed more staff, English speaking waitpersons assigned to tables and non English speaking employees reserved for kitchen and busing of tables. Toward end of our stay a English speaking female supervisor seemed to come into the picture amd attempt to add some order to the chaos caused more by her employees formally getting wrong orders for clients because of lack of understanding of the order on part of waitpeople and bringing out only one person’s order at the table while last three persons wait 15 minutes for their meal . This is problem of management not of kitchen/restaurant employees. Appearances of restaurant for meals and cocktails was rather unprofessional, unfortunately.

The property was incredibly beautiful with gorgeous well -tended flowers, beautiful pool, incredible vistas into the Kalkan Bay and even a regular boat shuttle into the town marina. Room was beautiful, large, comfortable and clean. Check in and out were simple. Office staff and housekeeping staff were efficient and absolutely lovely. Breakfast meal was fresh, delicious and well cooked. Restaurant Staff was very friendly but overwhelmed by the number of clients. Overall I loved the place and would recommend highly!

Location is nice.
The entire resort is tired. 1st night food poisoning at the restaurant. Made a complaint as we wanted to stay in resort for the full week and we were not confident with the restaurant given the experience. Got a very cold response back from management offering a tiny discount, asking for proof of sickness (had to show a photo can you believe) and then resulting in the management telling us just not to eat breakfast, and a refund on the dinner that cause the sickness ... was expecting more from a 5 star resort to be honest and in comparison to others at this price level the service was so low. Towels left out around pool areas until late making it messy. Staff sort of lurking around not quite what you would expect. Overall for this price point and level of hotel - it was possibly the most disappointing place we have stayed in the past 5 years at this price point.
Wonderful breakfasts. Dreamy setting for daytime and diners. Lots of steps !
No gym
The location is stunning, the staff are professional and friendly and the facilities are very good. Swimming in crystal clear water and taking dinner overlooking the lights of Kalkan is memorable. Perfect for a quiet, relaxing holiday for couples young and old.
There are 181 steps to negotiate daily….or take a buggy ride if you’re feeling lazy!
Perfect location great staff and wonderful food
Very attractive location. Beach club and area for hotel use only. Wide choice at breakfast and lunch menu good. Pizza oven a nice feature. Dinner takes place on terraces over the sea. Staff super efficient and pleasant and quickly accommodated our personal idiosyncrasies. Many thanks!
The hot water supply in the room was a little unpredictable especially in the evening......... I guess it's demand on the supply at around the same time every evening when people get ready for the evening. But to be honest it wasn't a big deal.
Fabulous views, great restaurant team
There were 220 steps from our room to the restaurant and beach which proved tricky in the heat.
Superb location. Stunning views. Good room service. Lovely personal terrace with a sea view.
The location ,settings and views are stunning
The food is disappointing for the pricesWe had one exceptional mean in three days
Lovely small boutique hotel. Very quiet and plenty of space to relax and get into the sea. Hotel restaurant is expensive but really good.
Kalkan is not the nicest Turkish resort. Over run with Brits and the restauarants are expensive and poor value.
The property and overall layout out was absolutely exquisite. I have never been anywhere like it or anywhere near as beautiful.
The only part about Villa Mahal what wasn’t up to the standard as everything else was the Evening meal. We only ate there on the first night out of ease but it wasn’t half as good as the lunch or breakfast.
This was my second visit to Villa Mahal and it did not disappoint. I never go anywhere twice but last year's visit was so amazing that I had to come again. There is absolutely nothing I dont love about Villa Mahal. We had such a relaxing holiday. The grounds are beautiful, well looked after and serene. The breakfast was plentiful with so much choice and always delicious and served with a smile. The location for breakfast is my favourite place in the world.
It was all wonderful.
Very charming and romantic setting exceptional service from all the staff
No tv
lovely location, beautifulviews from the rooms and from the restaurant and a wonderful place to relax and get away from the business of Kalkan.
Location really nice, really quiet would go back
Staff pleasant but don't go above and beyond, seems disorganised confusion on when we booked things eg double booked massage at the same time of another couple.
Fantastic setting. Great staff. Fabulous breakfasts. Beautifully appointed rooms.
Wonderful breakfast plenty of choice with waiter service , beautiful views little bit of heaven , nothing too much trouble , magic !
Could be Speedier at dinner time , pool area better kept after people had been there leaving towels , glasses etc end of day !
