About
Hotel Spaander is located in a prime position in Volendam on the banks of the Lake Markermeer. This historical hotel dating back to 1881 has a truly authentic Dutch feel to it. Each of the 97 bedrooms have been uniquely decorated and feature authentic Dutch decor. Rooms are generously proportioned and some of them offer views over the Lake Markermeer or Volendam’s famous boulevard on the dike. The hotel’s famous restaurant offers a delightful menu featuring Volendam and Dutch specialties. Guests can sample such delights as stewed fish. Guests will love exploring the town of Volendam on foot – the traditional Dutch houses, the canals, the scenic waterfront and of course the dike itself. The historical towns of Edam and Monnickendam are close by and worth a visit.

Good location. Clean room, quiet, nice breakfast. Great shower. Nice bed.
Room was on the small side
Fabulous location. Traditional quirky hotel .
We found the extremely soft beds and large hard pillows so uncomfortable we checked out after 2 nights instead of the 4 we had planned. The staff were not client friendly when we requested fixing the 2 broken lights in our room (never did find out how to find the night porter?!?) as well as the pillow issue (I know, I should bring my own apparantly). Staff training would be beneficial.
A comfortable and clean but slightly old hotel, right in the centre for staying and visiting Volendam.
It will look great with a little care.

Great wellness facilities! Sleeping with view to the water is also amazing. Getting there with the car is a bit tricky though. Just drive carefully.
Everything was perfect! The hotel is in Volendam a fantastic small fishing village where time seems to be stopped. Well served with public transport (there is every 30 min a bus to Amsterdam. It takes 30 min to arrive in Central station of Amsterdam). Additionally, it is possible to reach Zaanse Schans (a beautiful village with windmills) and the Ocean too.Thank you!
Great location in the center and close to the harbour. Beautiful old building with a great sea view from the restaurant and bar. Great choice at breakfast and the pool and sauna were an added bonus.
The service at check-in. Receptionist couldn't find our booking and was adamant that he didn't need our Booking.com confirmation. It took 15 minutes to find our rooms. The curtains in the room are very thin and don't block out any light. The room was very noisy from a motor outside that ran all night.
Lovely hotel, great location. Really easy to get in and out of Amsterdam
Booking through Booking.com lead to complications over whether we'd paid. The hotel staff sorted it out eventually.
food
couldn't sleep duo to noise from rain from the roof, not isolated
The location and authentic build was very welcoming. The place was tidy, clean and warm
The reception staff. They were most unwelcoming and appeared rude at checkin and when asking any questions. I didn’t have any tea, coffee making facilities in my room and when I questioned this, I was told there will be some the next day but in the meantime, I could call for room service if I wanted any hot drinks. I tried to call the next day when I woke, but there was no line to the reception. The phone was cut off. I went to reception and relayed my message. I was told there won’t be any room service nor any facilities to my room. So I was lied to !! I questioned this and said this is a standard feature and was publicised on the website but the receptionist just shrugged his shoulders. When I went into the restaurant to have a tea, the waiter tried to bill me ! The staff in general weren’t trained in any customer service and they seemed like they didn’t know what was going on in their own working environment.
Hotel location was great. Not too far from Amsterdam.Shops, bars and restaurants in immediate area.Breakfast was good.Hotel was clean.Beds were made and towels refreshed every morning if you required. Most staff were friendly.
Hotel advertises Coffee and tea making facilities in rooms but only 2 out of the 3 rooms we booked had this.We were told only some rooms in the hotel have this.We were then told by the receptionist we could make a drink in the self service breakfast area and take to our room. But other members of staff said we couldn't and we had to purchase a coffee/tea from the bar.The receptionist then told us facilities would be placed in our room the next day but were not.As we were staying in November it was cold and wet and it would be a good idea to sort this problem out. Also the bar closes very early I'm not sure if this is just because of the time of year or a staffing problem.Plug point for hairdryer and mirror are a long way from each other.
Central location with a decent price.Pool and sauna and steam room are nice extras !Loved the lady at the restaurant she was wonderful
The check in lady was difficult and didn’t want to give us the room with the twin beds without charging us extraHaving to go to the reception to access the pool is strange
The hotel is good, around the hotel you can get the resto and good view
No elevator to hard if you bring the big luggage.
Beautiful! The woodwork, stained glass, room balcony, view of lake, historic/library section, location. The vintage door to balcony and windows are lovely and nostalgic.
No complaints
Got to sleep after 5am when noisy residents eventually went to bed
room on ground floor faced terrace so curtains had to be kept closed to get any privacy also it had no opening windows.
Well situated. Good breakfast, though not cheap. Still preserves some of the original charm although most artwork and antiques have disappeared. Swimming pool and sauna also a plus.
The room seemed half-finished and many things were missing. No kettle for hot water, missing bedside lamp, and we had to find out for ourselves that hairdryers were given out against a deposit at reception after washing our hair. The staff at reception was generally aloof, to put it kindly, and some of them didn’t even speak Dutch, which we found surprising. We have stayed here over many years and obviously miss the original decoration (not sure if the term ‘art hotel’ still applies), and got the feeling the place is still finding its feet after reopening.
