    Pros +

    • This was a pleasant surprise! From check in to check out and every person who works in this hotel, it exceeded any expectations we had!
    • Loved the views and the history. Dinner and breakfast were excellent
    • While some reviews use the words cozy and charming, I would use the words rustic and spartan. While the downstairs was open and provided wonderful views over the water, our room was cramped and very stark. This was the most expensive room we had during our 15 day trip to the Netherlands and Norway, and it was far from the best room we stayed in during our trip and this was not the first "historic" building we booked. I do not believe that it was worth the price. The stairs to the second level are very very narrow, so beware hauling a suitcase up those stairs. The staff was very nice and very accommodating.

    Cons -

    • I believe the price of the room was overpriced for what was provided.
    • Very very old facility, very small and squeaky bed, tiny tiny room. Dangerous stairs to the second floor. Insanely expensive for what you get.
    • Rooms are simple and small, but do the trick! You won’t spend much time in the room.

Super sweet staff, amazing living room for hanging, charming town, great breakfast and delicious dinner.

Rooms are simple and small, but do the trick! You won’t spend much time in the room.

The hotel is beautifully located on the water with a nice deck and an indoor living room furnished with many comfortable chairs and sofas, both with excellent views. We enjoyed browsing the used bookstores of Mundal as well. In the evening prior to dinner the owner told us a little bit about himself, the hotel and the area which was a nice personal touch. Our room was quaint and unique, and the building has a lot of charm and personality. Dinner was an additional cost but delicious and relaxing. After visiting many touristy areas this was a very nice respite from the hustle and bustle of the crowds. We wish we had planned to stay another night!

It was all positive. Breakfast was served at 8 and we were unable to take advantage of that since we had to leave early the next morning. A grab and go option would have been fantastic but certainly no deal breaker for us.

Absolutely charming small in on a picturesque fjord with great attention to detail, gorgeous design, and the most beautiful lobby. Best breakfast of our trip.

Felt the love and commitment to community & local longevity. Loved the communal sitting room, artwork, books, vibe.

The staff were friendly and the view was incredible

The rooms near the roof had very little space and were not very comfortable. There was also a lack out outlets.

We had a great breakfast, loved the waffles. Location was great directly on the fjord.Lounge area was very relaxing with beautiful view's. Bed's were very comfortable. There was a hot tub which looked great, but unfortunately we couldn't use it as it was booked out. Best to book in advance. We ended up going to a floating sauna near by which was amazing.

Dinner at the hotel was very expensive. So we didn't end up eating there. It would have been great if there was cheaper option's available.

Wonderful old historic building in a beautiful location. Exquisite food, and extremely comfortable

Very charming hotel, with character, front line on the fiord. Having dinner and breakfast is luxurious. I loved the living room in the front room as well.Staff is very friendly and helpful.

The hotel does not have stairs (which I they did tell you) and the room was maybe a bit smaller than expected (it was a single room indeed).

    9AlexandraPosted on: 8-29-2024

Beautiful hotel located directly on the fjord. Staff is so kind and gave great recommendations

    10KimberlyPosted on: 8-26-2024

Beautiful setting. Big area to look at the scenery and read. Breakfast was really nice .

Our room was tiny (but hey, it's just for sleeping). No tea and coffee sitting out.

Wonderful night at this very special place. We absolutely loved the history of this little hotel. It is utterly charming. The setting is idyllic and as we arrived we were treated to dolphins playing in the fjord outside - magical. The room was comfortable with beautiful views. There was some noise from other rooms (running water, a floor board creak) but this is part and parcel of staying somewhere so authentic and it didn’t disturb us. The staff are so helpful in every way. The stories told before dinner were fascinating. A walk around the village is a must. The food, both breakfast and dinner, were locally sourced and utterly delicious. We just loved this special spot and hope to return for longer. The glacier museum nearby was also brilliant.

Fantastic boutique-type family run hotel in the most beautiful setting on the fjord with views of the glacier. Very comfortable room with view of the fjord. We opted for the dinner menu in the restaurant - all locally sourced, very high quality and delicious food with a bottle of great wine chosen by the owner. Breakfast was fresh, plentiful and delcious - again all local and seasonal produce. A very interesting talk before dinner by the hotel manager on the history of the hotel and the area - fantastic and kind service from all the staff. Exceptional place and the best hotel on our 3 week trip. We had an issue with our room caused by Booking.com that the manager sorted it straight away and offered us some compensation - she was brilliant and so helpful. Fjaerland is such a wonderful place and not blighted by the tourist cruise ships. Also visited the glacier centre - very interesting.

Absolutely everything was fantastic. The cute room, the view, the food, the atmosphere and the staff. We even saw a little whale in the fjord during breakfast.

    7AlibrandiPosted on: 8-15-2024

The food was thoughtful, locally conscious, elegant and delicious.

The keys for the door were incredibly difficult. A little loud in the hallway.
