About

Experience the luxuriant ambiance of yesteryear in this traditional hotel amid the Ardennes, on the banks of the River Amblève. This unique hotel has been hosted by the same family for seven generations since 1768 and has managed to preserve its original character. The public spaces are decorated with authentic furniture and pieces, such as an old long-case clock and a fireplace. Get competitive on the tennis court; sit out on the flowery terrace or take a dove in the pool. You can visit the caves of Remouchamps in the vicinity and go hiking along signposted trails. In Hotel-Restaurant Bonhomme many famous people have gone before you, such as King Albert I, the Comte de Paris, Mistinguett, Fernandel, Fangio, etc. In the evenings you can retreat to your comfortable room, adorned with warm colors and period furniture. Bernard and Nathalie look forward to welcoming you into their home.

    Pros +

    • Friendly staff, nice breakfast and perfect restaurant for dinner. We enjoyed our late dinner and were surprised by very good service! Even during breakfast we tried to ask questions but there was noone English speaking but it was not an issue, the lady somehow found a way how to assist. Nice view from the window, especially nice during golden autumn period.
    • Breakfast and the funny old fashioned style of the place. The caves so close to visit.
    • We had the spa bath room, which was up two flights of steep stairs. A comfortable room with a view over the road. Hotel full of character and history with old photos all around. Free parking outside. Food in restaurant excellent. Breakfast included in the price. Restaurants nearby as alternatives.

    Cons -

    • A bit confusing to find reception at arrival and then did not expect so many stairs. It's not an issue to go there, we just had our kid sleeping and tried to bring him to our room. not an easy task but we succeeded.
    • Nothing we can think of.
    • Noise from traffic most of the time. A busy crossroads. Pillows.

The breakfast and the dinner were really good. The staff was very friendly.

Our room faced the street and it was a bit noisy.

We like the hotel and the history. The room was bright with a big bath tub. The food was excellent.

A word of advice - bring ear plugs and an eye mask. The roadside traffic sound was terribly penetrating, whether close the window or not ( no sound proof), and it was too hot to close them as there was no air-con. The curtain doesn't blind The lights much. The bed was very soft for our likings.

The location was good , and the bathroom was great .

    1. The room wasn't ready upon arrival as per the agreed time .2. Room had dirty chairs , outdated furniture, holes in the walls, and broken blind in the bathroom.3. Breakfast was terrible . One chocolate and one normal croissant for two people . Rock hard bread and hardly any thing intresting .4. Staff majorly didn't speak English.

It is a beautiful historic building in the center of Remouchamps, with a nice terrace. Dinner in the restaurant is very good and staff are very helpful.

The hotel is urgent need of an upgrade.

    A bad experience

We had a bad experience: on tuesdays and wednesdays there is no staff, so they gave us a code to open the door. However, when we came back from dinner the code didn't work. There was another person also trying to get back in, but he had the same problem. We tried many times. We called the telephone number they had given us in case of any problem but it didn't answer. We tried many times. Only after two hours the other guest somehow found another phone number and he managed to open the door. Apart from that the hotel is delapidated. Water in the sink didn't run, the faucet was loose, pillows are old and bad. Breakfast is basic. Staff is friendly but not competent.

The food was great, and the waitress too.

Not at all a river-facing room as listed on booking.com. It was a room looking onto a building-site, with NO BLINDS in the bathroom. Just net curtains. There is no way on can use the bathroom unless it is at night and the lights are off. Not cool at all.Plus, the builders started at 7am. Very disappointed in booking.com.

    Great location

The room was a great size but wasn't cleaned properly before our use.

Such a lovely, old-fashioned, welcoming and century-old family-run establishment, with its lovely rooms, pretty view over the river, its charming antique furniture and decoration, a great modern and fully equipped elegant-looking bathroom, delicious food in the restaurant, a great breakfast and an amazing and very helpful staff. This is really the kind of place I adore, full of history with its more than 250 years existence run by the same family, 9th generation in a row, with its homely dining room and heartwarming bar with its old piano. I even was allowed to prepare for my piano class playing with candlelight! My heartfelt gratitude to the people who give this place a soul and turn a stay with them in a wonderful experience.

The hotel is situated next to Embleve river and great for trips to nearby attractions in the Ardennes area.

It is an old building with a lot of history. One can see that the owners are doing their best to maintain it and to keep up with modern standards. If one likes vintage, this is the place to go.We thought the place might benefit from an upgrade, but considering todays cost for labour and materials, that will be difficult.

The hotel was very charming and the personal very kind. We had a nice meal in the evening and the breakfast was good.

We had an information from the hotel that we should have a room with view to the river. I understand this is a standard information. There were no parking when we arrived because the restaurant had lots of guests. However, we got another parking. What made us very surprised that we got a room in an annex!!! It was rather strange. The room seemed to be new with a big bathroom. Difficult to get it heated. The stairs to enter this annex was horrible. With one person with some problems with the feet, it was terrible. The hotel should have informed in advance that this was the only room available. Look at the photo of the stairs!!! With this we were very dissatisfied. It is difficult to give rate to the hotel since the hotel itself was nice, but we were not at all satisfied with our room entrance!!!

Helpful and friendly staff. Parking at the front of hotel could be a problem due to lack of spaces during busy periods. Good choice of meals for dinner along with quality, likewise breakfast. Room very clean with modern bathroom facilities. Jacuzzi in room but not used.

Shower cubicle had no hand rails and as the floor area quite large was very slippery.

Lovely old-fashioned hotel. The restaurant speaks of a glorious past. Our room had been renovated to a high standard -very comfortable. Our meal was most enjoyable.

Lovely room and very well equipped. Beautiful building and fascinating old pictures of the place across many years. Lovely traditional French food (though not much for vegetarians!)

Not the hotel's fault but the road outside is very noisy, which was disturbing.

location was beautiful and the view too. We had an excellent dinner. The bedding was so comfortable. really nice breakfast. Such a nice walk along the water.

Excellent service, very efficient staff and consistently good meals served with a smile. Large comfortable bedroom with beautiful bathroom facility.

Unfortunately beds weren’t made up for us and the room was not cleaned daily which was expected.
