    Pros +

    • Central location in the center of the historical town and easy access to the promenade, ferries and restaurants. The appartment is spacious, bright and has a great balcony. Plenty of parking space on the property.
    • Great room with a private car park which while close to the beach was just off the main thoroughfare that we didnt get any foot traffic or noise.
    • A very spacious room within easy walking distance of the sea front.Very quiet and Russell is what it must be like when you die and go to heaven.

    Cons -

    • No personal contact on arrival. When checking-in we found that the appartment had not been properly cleaned; similarly the idle reception. An extra round of cleaning, however, transformed it into a truly pleasant place.
    • Having to leave...The establishment is for sale, hopefully it will retain its character.Would love to be able to afford the purchase price....and emigrate to Northland N.Z.
    • If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to sleep inside a haunted vacuum cleaner bag, boy, do I have the destination for you! From the moment we arrived at Seaport Village, the ambience hit us—and by ambience, I mean the potent aroma of mildew, despair, and possibly expired hopes. The curtains were the stuff of horror movie set design: moldy, heavy, and clinging to the window like they were trying to escape too. The musty stench could only be described as “Victorian attic meets forgotten basement.”The decor was retro, in the sense that it looked like someone retroactively gave up in 1983. Furniture so old and saggy, even the scatter cushions had given up all hope—they were flatter than my enthusiasm. The carpets? Well, calling them carpets is generous. They were more like fuzzy dirt delivery systems, expertly seasoned with the tears of previous guests. Now let’s talk hospitality. Our complimentary coffee cups came with bonus brown stains on the inside. I like my coffee strong, but not pre-seasoned with biohazards. The fridge had milk that expired during the previous administration and was leaking enough to open a water park for ants. The host’s solution? Slap a towel on it like it was a DIY plumbing YouTube tutorial. Spoiler alert: it didn’t work. Ever.Oh, and the dishwasher leaks too, possibly in solidarity with the fridge. I’d call it a feature—“self-watering floorboards”—but I’m not that generous. The whole place had a thick layer of dust and cobwebs, which added a festive “abandoned witch’s cottage” vibe. I half-expected a raccoon in a smoking jacket to welcome us with, “You’re late.”In conclusion, if you’re into biohazards, antiquated upholstery, and the thrill of possibly catching something airborne, Seaport Village is the perfect getaway. Otherwise, maybe pitch a tent in a landfill—it’ll smell better, and at least you’ll know what you’re in for.

Todate, the best accommodation we have had in N.Z.The location was terrific, we did not need to use the car during our 2 night stay. Russell was a great place to stay in the Bay of Islands. In hindsight we should of spent our 5 nights at the Bay in Russell and used the ferry to get to Paihia and Waitangi. Our host, Hayden, was very gracious and hospitable. Our unit, #1, felt like our own home. With plenty of room and polished timber floors, even in the bathroom.Russell has so much history to offer and Seaport Village a great and economic place to stay.

next door noise on last night.

The room was very spacious and well-equipped. The bed was incredibly comfortable. The location could not have been more convenient. Russell is a lovely, tranquil place to spend a few days. I'd go again in a heartbeat.

Clean but very tired and needs to be updated and refurbished. Old musty smell in the rooms. Host was lovely.

    7KeithPosted on: 3-26-2025

It was a great place for exploring the village, which I must admit had a lot of pluses, great eating places and shops. The staff were very good, friendly and informative. The room was cosy and had all the required facilities.

The room was dusty with stains on the curtains and cobwebs on the windows.

Location, quality fittings and furnishings, spacious and good value. Safe off street parking.

    10SMauiPosted on: 3-24-2025

The room was a little quirky (just like us) the room was huge and convenient to everything in Russell.

The pillows were not my favorite, but I had to think hard to come up with something I didn't like.

Beautiful big room. Close to the centre of Russell with easy access.

    9KarenPosted on: 3-23-2025

Location was brilliant. It was a lovely property. The beds were comfortable, showers great and perfect for a group. Coffee shop on the corner was fab!

    Not a lot!

Amazing location right in town. Right next door to the Nauti Penguin which we've always loved. Comfy bed. Easy access. Easy parking. Friendly & easygoing host.

Just needs power socket in bathroom fixed, couldn't use for hair dryer etc. Other than that, couldn't fault a thing. Fabulous property.

Lovely staff, really clean and great location.

    7DiannePosted on: 3-20-2025

Location was great for wedding at the Duke

The room smelt unpleasant which we traced to the drain in the shower. There was toilet cleaner available so poured into the shower drain and let soak for a while. This took care of the smell. The toilet brush holder was gross with brown water. Huge stain on duvet. Coffee tea and milk supplies were not good- we bought our own.

I liked how the property was like a home, very welcoming, near all the required facilities, supermarket & restaurants. The owner was friendly, family oriented and very accommodating. It was spacey, had 2 toilets, bathroom, kitchen, lounge, dining room & patio area was wonderful.

It was dusty, required dusting and proper cleaning…there were dust under the bed, in the room and the blankets. Blankets require washing.

Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable, and it was in a perfect location, just a short walk to the Strand. We were easily able to self cater and do our laundry which was really helpful. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Our room was tucked away at the back which we liked because it was quiet and we had our own off street carpark directly outside.

The lighting was a bit dim in the room and the fans very noisy! We also couldn’t turn off the outdoor security light.
