- Markree Castle lives up to its fine reputation. It does not disappoint in any way. From coming in the front door to be met by a blazing fire, to the friendly staff who welcome you, to the amazing bedrooms with large comfortable beds, this is a wonderful experience. And there is a giant wolf hound who wanders amidst the splendid sitting rooms and bars. What could be better? We went exploring and ended up having tea and delicious scones in the scullery. The dining room was spectacular and the food was excellent. Both dinner and breakfast were a delight. We had a great time.
- Markree felt extremely authentic, especially compared to some other castles we booked. The hotel interior and grounds were absolutely beautiful, as were the views from our room and the dining room. Walking around the interior of the castle.
- Exceptional service and property. The dinner was amazing and room was beautiful. Showering was a joy with great water pressure. We will be back….
Cons -
- What didn't we like? That we had to leave. This is a great place to enjoy. The setting is exceptional and the staff were fantastic. We will be back.
- We were woken up at 3am with the upstairs visitors stomping around their room - their water usage was also very noisy at that time with rattling pipes.
- It was all good no complaints. Would go every year if I could afford it. Food was also great.and the surroundings were lovely.

Beautiful castle that we were welcome to explore. This stay was an excursion in itself - providing much entertainment as we walked around (inside and outside) noticing all of the neat things. Many different sitting rooms to hang out in. Very clean and beautiful bedrooms. We felt like princesses while being served a delicious breakfast. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the Irish Wolfhound puppy was adorable.
Stunning building and very comfortable bed. Breakfast was excellent.

Lovely castle very friendly and helpful staff

What an experience! I haven’t stayed in a castle before so this was a treat, there was a bath in the bedroom which was probably my favourite part. The staff were lovely, the facilities were great and the bar had delicious cocktails! Overall 10/10
The dinner menu wasn’t particularly suitable for vegetarians, but that may have just been personal preference so we went out elsewhere for dinner
Breakfast was excellent The Room was fantastic ( Jonny Cash )
The after dinner dessert was a big let down to a wonderful meal , it was just a trio of dessert with no choices Following a dinner of a high standard , this is an area would need to have at least 3 choices
The beautiful gardens . The interior had amazing character and decor The food was exquisite Staff were absolutely first class
Breathtaking!! Old castle in mint condition. Very private. Grounds immaculate. Service exceptional (thank you Alex and co)Food and Bar service incredible
Having to leave!!
The location, rooms and gardens were so beautiful! The bed was comfortable and the bathroom top notch. The food was outstanding. Can’t wait to return.
Some of the wait staff seemed unhappy to be there. Our breakfast server was a bit grumpy.
It’s stunning from the moment you enter through the gate and when the castle suddenly arises in the distance it takes your breath away! This is a proper castle with everything one imagines a castle to be. The dinner was excellent and creative, all locally sourced.
I loved everything so I hesitate to say anything but I am particular about beds, a bit of a princess and the pea, and my bed was a little saggy for my back and not entirely comfortable
Lovely castle but missing out on not having any Bar food or alternative dinning only fine dinning.
No facility to eat lunch on arrival, nothing open until 3pm
absoluly stunning house in beautiful grounds, the rooms are very clean and comfortable, staff is very friendly, it's like walking right into a novel by Wodehouse or Christie, you have the feeling you're staying in a private home. We were sorry to leave, it was just so perfect.
Prior to our stay, Hubby and I were in London for a week and Dublin for two days. This visit to the castle was the best part of our trip! The gardens are beautiful! I loved seeing the sheep in the nearby pasture. We missed the afternoon tea and cakes, but got there in time for the dinner! It was delicious and presentation was exquisite. Special thanks to the dining room manager, Owen, for your hospitality! Our room was beautifully appointed, had a spacious en suite, claw foot tub, and a beautiful view of the garden. The next morning we were served a hot breakfast with an assortment of fruit, cheese and pastries. Hubby had the traditional Irish breakfast. I had the vegetarian eggs benedict with avocado, red onion marmalade and homemade vegetarian Irish pudding. It was amazing! Amanda, our breakfast server happily honored our request for two coffees to-go for our journey, then generously offered for us to take a box of cheese and pastries if we wished to. It felt like home! Thank you, Markree Castle staff!
Markree Castle is a dream! Our bedroom was quite big, the decor was gorgeous and the bed was incredibly comfortable. The staff we encountered were very helpful and down to earth. We didn't get the opportunity to have breakfast or dinner in the restaurant, but we hope to be back in the not so far future. I couldn't recommend Markree Castle more- it is packed full of character and luxury.
Staying at Markree Castle was definitely the highlight of our 3-week trip around Ireland. We felt so fortunate that we decided on Markree after conducting meticulous research on Irish castle stays. It was our first time staying in a castle and we felt like royals! We loved exploring the historical castle, and there was even more to take in than we expected - from a great number of beautifully decorated rooms and spaces to the abbey and the lovely grounds. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent and all the staff were most kind and helpful. Our room was very elegant, clean and had a nice view as well. Our stay was magical and didn't lack a thing!
Friendly staff, excellent evening meals, comfortable spacious room, hotel ambiance, super cocktails in bar
Breakfast not up to anticipated standard, food just average, bacon very poor quality, long wait on first morning even though dining room was quite slack.
Our room was large and situated overlooking the front gardens as featured in the promotional literature.
Only the the desert let the whole experience down.
Convivial atmosphere. Friendly staff.
There wasn't a bath, just a very good shower.
