About
The Castle Dargan estate is set snugly in 170 acres of mature woodlands with unrivaled scenery. "I liked the place", he said, "For the romances of its two ruined castles facing one another across a little lake". - W. B. Yeats It is almost a century since Yeats penned these "King of the Great Clock Tower" lines, following one of his many visits to Castle Dargan. And now an opportunity to re-visit the charms of Castle Dargan is here for you. Stylish design concepts and spacious, light flooded rooms, designed in a contemporary style, set the scene of quiet luxury for discerning guests searching for the highest standards of traditional Irish hospitality. Spectacular views overlooking the 18 hole golf course, designed by Darren Clarke, and the abundant nature surrounding the hotel all reflect Castle Dargan’s harmonious inclusion in the landscape.

Pros +
- Beautiful location, and the Hazelwood room was perfect.Staff were excellent, especially Connie at reception.
- Receptionist was friendly.
- Amazing breakfast, nice location, good price for low season.
Cons -
- My vegetarian lunch was delayed, most of the others at my table had finished their meal before mine came.
- Where to begin! I never leave reviews, but I write this as a cautionary tale. This was simply the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had.The hotel itself is very run down, with chipped and worn tiles and furniture, stained carpets and foul smelling toilets. And that’s just the reception. Though I must say the receptionist was very kind, but her weary expression should have been a warning!Once we checked into our room, we were hit with a wall of hot, stale air. The heating was on full blast, with no sign of the supposed temperature control anywhere, just a clanking and rusted radiator. The surfaces were dusty and stained, and the ‘double’ bed was two lumpy mattresses pushed together, covered with a duvet far too small for its cover. In the bathroom, there was clear sign of a missing panel, just a bare wood plank. No towel rail was provided, and there was no extractor fan. The toilet was laughably close to the wall, making it impossible for even the most elf like person to sit on fully. On top of that, the paper thin walls made sure you heard entire conversations from the hallway and the construction workers ripping out the neighbouring room.As for the rest of the hotel, it’s completely devoid of atmosphere. Nowhere to quietly sit and read, and the one corner with a sofa is located between the staff room, a lift and the disabled toilet. The constant banging of doors and the hectic attitude of the staff made it impossible to relax. Speaking of relaxation, let’s talk about the spa. Filthy, cold, smelling of blocked toilets and overlooking a run down golf course, with a hot tub that any marine scientist would gladly study for new bacterial strains. The treatment itself was laughable, poked and prodded somehow too lightly but ending with me hobbling out as if I’d just climbed out of a washing machine. Thankfully my partner had a slightly better experience.
- The heating didn’t work in one room for whole stay even after ask in the reception. I would recommend to ensure there is a minimum heating check before the arrival guests

Lovely decorated warm room. Very comfy bed. Ground floor but thankfully quiet. Complimentary bottle of wine for our special occasion.
Under staffed reception at a busy time, never told upon booking room would be in seperate building to main hotel. Taxi's will not pick you up at this serperate entrance even if its snowing. Shower gully totally blocked and no let of water to escape. No utensils given with breakfast to room.
Loved the location, fabulous food and the outdoor hottub was class
Food in the restaurant was fantastic, lovely big room, very comfortable bed great staff
Cooked breakfast was cold
Passable
Rooms were cold. You had to sit sideways on the toilet! Shower head dribbled water. No body lotion.
The staff were very friendly, professional and courteous, the rooms were clean and very comfortable.
There was a job interview taking a public space where food was being served. It should have been held in private.
The bed was so comfortable. we also received a bottle of wine complimentary for our anniversary. A special touch! The dinner was delicious. The steak was like butter so tender.
Not a thing. Will be back again!
Large comfortable room in the house in the courtyard. Comfortable bed. Great shower with toiletries supplied . Bottle of wine left in the room was a lovely touch. Clean and well maintained . Use of Spa facilities at a charge of €15 was lovely way to end the stay. Great breakfast choices. Super bast to explore Sligo.
The room was very hot, they radiator control didn’t appear to be working. It is quite remote and Taxi’s are expensive if you want to go elsewhere for dinner and drinks . Was a little disappointed that we had booked dinner for Friday night and were seated in the bar not the dining room as it wasn’t as comfortable.
Beautiful bedroom and bathroom. Welcoming and friendly staff. The hotel facilities are clean and the location, on a crisp sunny Spring weekend was beautiful.
Signage to parking could be more visible. I would have appreciated more choice of pastries at breakfast such as croissants. I found it strange to include porridge on the menu rather than with the cereals.
The Italian waiter in the restaurant was excellent. He went above and beyond to facilitate my mother's needs. This guy is a valued asset to your restaurant. His customer service is A1. Food was divine also. Room was lovely and nice and warm for the time of year.
Steamroom out of order in spa with no acknowledgement as we were there on a spa break. Spa quite cold. A little uncomfortable for what it should be esp in Nov. Treatment and therapist very nice. Have been on a few occasions and always pleasant.
The room was extremely comfortable and great location.
The food was good but the resturant was a little bland. Thwy could create a better ambiance.
Lovely staff, good location, food was delicious and fresh.
No hot water our first night so I had to use their spa shower but it was fixed on the Saturday and we did get a small refund on check out.
The breakfast was fine. The eggs Benedict were raw when they arrived. We brought it to the attention of the staff, and they did correct it and bring it back in a timely fashion.
The thermostat in the room was very high and out of reach. We managed to figure out how to turn it down, but the room was way too warm. There were four of us in the room and we did not sleep well because of the high temperature.
The room we had was fantastic. It was in the Main house. I thinks that what it was called. Really large great view of the golf course. The bathroom was big with large bathtub and a shower. There was a bottle of wine in the room when we arrived. I can't remember if I added that, but so what it was cool and noted to us.
The bed was comfortable.
The service in the restaurant was very poor. No staff came to take our food order. When we eventually did order, food took 45mins to arrive. Entertainment in the bar was also very poor - no atmosphere in the hotel considering we stayed new years eve. Very disappointing.
Short stay as we had been in Sligo hospital all day Saturday & urgent need to return there next morning so what we saw of the property seemed lovely
Booked twin room but were provided with double bed & as it was almost midnight when we arrived we just took what we got & didn’t complain. Pulled curtains to close & small black thing flew out which I initially thought was a rodent but turned out to be a pair of socks which I guess belonged to a previous guest. Was going to mention both on checkout but receptionist just took the keys from us & completely ignored us as she was too busy talking to another member of staff behind her desk. On the other hand the porter who greeted us on our late arrival & the restaurant staff at breakfast were lovely
Nothing, could really do with a revamp.Has great potential but is waste at the minute
Walls need painting, leather ripped on chairs, no music in lobby or bar, very poor atmosphere. Tried to get served at the bar and was ignored. Ordered lunch and was told that I couldn’t eat it where I was sitting. In the morning no one was at the reception or in the bar/restaurant when trying to check out. Stream room out of order. Disappointing stay.
The hotel is in a beautiful location, the staff are very friendly, the breakfast location and offering was impressive.
I had really looked forward to using the spa/thermal suite services however they were closed after 6pm and not open in the morning until 11am. So, in the end, I did not feel the stay in the hotel was worth the money.
