    Pros +

    • Comfortable room in a beautiful setting. Very good breakfast provided. The staff were very attentive with personalised service. There is plenty of parking right outside the hotel. We really enjoyed our stay.
    • Never stayed in a Castle before. This was just amazing. Didn't have time to look behind all doors and could only walk a bit in the evening through the garden, but everything looked so nice.
    • What a lovely castle this is. The staff open the front door for you and make you feel welcome. The room is very classy and decorated with warm colors. Restaurant Sophie is amazing, both for dinner and breakfast. I had a wonderful stay.

    Cons -

    • The mattress transferred a lot of partner movement (I suspect that wasn't a pocket spring mattress). Not a big deal if you are used to this, but we weren't and we come from an earthquake prone area, so woke up a few times thinking the building was shaking! ;-)
    • That I couldn't stay longer
    • From the outside the castle seemed absolutely magical until we actually checked into our room and noticed it is all a façade. The cheapest furnishings, cheapest bedding, literally the bed was as hard as the wooden floors. The crown molding was very cheap and not at all adorned in the way you would expect for a castle. I would say this is more of an event space and not someplace to enjoy a stay because it is truly just not comfortable. I was excited to see the large clawfoot tub awaiting us in our suite until I further examined it to see it was a cheap fiberglass replica. The castle is very grand, but upon further inspection, the inside is poorly maintained, and they spared every expense possible on the amenities. The castle is a bit off the beaten path, although it is located in a very wealthy neighborhood, there are no food options except at the hotels restaurant. They advise that you book your reservation in advance online, which I tried to do and there were no available bookings. I then sent a private message directly to the staff of the hotel to see if there was any way they could accommodate us and they did reserve us a table for 6 PM with a message saying that they were fully booked. We enjoyed our dinner for over an hour and we were the only people in the entire Restaurant so I find it hard to believe that they were fully booked considering we were the only people there. other details like paint on the curtains in the room just goes to show the lack of care that went into the renovation. This castle could really be great if they invested a little bit more money to the interior as well as comfortable linens and bedding would make a huge improvement. There are no robes nor slippers, but there were a pair of dirty socks left under the safe in the closet.

Traveling through Holland on a business trip and we had one extra day available in the idea of staying in a castle seemed so magical… Until we arrived. A private event had booked the estate grounds and at check-in we were told we could not leave our room or explore the castle until after 5 PM. The advertisement for this castle list and mentions the beautiful landscape and lush Gardens, and that is a bit of a stretch by anyone’s imagination. If you consider an algae filled stagnant pond, lush landscaping, then you actually would enjoy it.

From the time we walked through the doors we were impressed; not only by the castle but by the staff. Kim went above and beyond meeting our expectations. She made our stay an experience not just a place to sleep. While it was Kim that most of our interactions were with the other staff were also wonderful. We would stay again.

    We liked everything.

We had are very warm welcoming upon arrival. The lady at reception was extemely helpful to make us settle and to find our way around the location. The room was very large and comfortable with beautiful views over the garden. It is a very peaceful location in a stunning surrounding. Breakfast was tasty and very generous, good selection of food and drink. Again, service was excellent and very friendly.

Wonderful experience. Beautiful boutique hotel located in a forest with extensive grounds. Loved the antiques and castle decor with heavy beams, black and white tiles, elegant furnishings. The restaurant was excellent. Pricing was good value for the quality provided. All staff were charming and helpful. Rooms were elegant and very comfortable. The building is historic so obviously you need to be able manage a staircase. The location is in a very pretty and green suburb, close to Leiden. The area is perfect for cycling, although a car is needed to reach the hotel. We would highly recommend the hotel and will return.

Beautiful property right in the park, spacious and comfortable room. Good breakfast.

Only room for improvement is the quality of the shampoo/body wash- very thin/watery. Perhaps have separate soap?

We received a lovely warm welcome after a long day of travelling. The restaurant staff went above and beyond, despite the late hour, to make our unexpected and delicious dinner a wonderful experience. All the staff were extremely helpful and friendly and made us feel like valued guests. The building itself is stunning, the room really comfortable. Loved the underfloor heating in the bathroom!

We didn't much like all the stairs, but were most grateful for the help with our luggage.

The atmosphere & the location. Everyone was so helpful from reception to restaurant

There was a bar but not open

    Beautiful setting

Hard beds and very thin walls. I could hear the occupants of the next door room when they were talking which was for a long time.

Beautifully situated in lush green in the direct vicinity of the Hague. Ideal location from where to start a city trip. Also we slept on a high floor and as there are no elevators they served our breakfast in our room.

Our bed was a tid small for two people

A lovely romantic place to stay if visiting Wassenaar. The setting in woods is wonderful. We really enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning.

As a there is no lift the amount of stairs to our room!

    9JanePosted on: 9-27-2024

Such a beautiful place and great for exploring Wassenaar. The location was so peaceful and I felt completely relaxed here, waking to the sound of birds singing and the sound of the fountains.

Lack of a lift meant we had three flights of stairs to our room, but the trek was worth it!

The hotel has huge historical interest and set in its own well maintained grounds. The room was large enough to relax and enjoy and exceptionally cosy and warm and lends the intimate feeling of a family home. Kim and Sophie are fabulous hosts, very knowledgeable and attentive and communicate with enthusiasm, very polite and professional which made our stay extremely enjoyable from the moment we arrived. The bedding was particularly comfortable tc, first class, I was happy to share my experience with family and friends, Brilliant and very well managed !!

Probably needs a knight in shinning armour

Nice location and castle. Great dinner at the restaurant.

I am used to a softer pillow. Neighbors were laud and/or walls very thin. Missing ironing equipment in the room. You would have to ask for it.

    7AmandaPosted on: 8-12-2024

The location is incredible and staff go above and beyond. The team at the front desk could not be more kind, welcoming and accommodating. Service was impeccable. Breakfast and the grounds were fabulous.

The castle was hosting a tv crew, which was filming a series that had an actor in black face playing a traditional Dutch character. I am not sure if a person of color would have felt safe or welcome staying in a place where this was happening, especially given that we later learned the original historical owner of the estate made their money from a sugar plantation. The hotel leadership needs to do a better job of reconciling and acknowledging its history.
