    Pros +

    • It was lovely, setting and buildings very nice. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Excellent location to visit war memorials etc. We were a bit late checking in compared to the times given on booking website. But they were very accommodating.
    • Very nice staff in the hotel, friendly people. The room was nice and clean, and a very comfortable bed.
    • I wish we had more than one night here. I was amazed at how large our room and bathroom were! So spacious and beautiful and clean. I just loved this place. The gardens and sheep all around were beautiful. The breakfast was excellent with the typical European meats, cheeses, breads, muelsi, cereals, spreads, beverages. The couple at breakfast were kind. The on-site open-air path through WWI trenches was a bonus. The building sounds and feels old but the paint and windows look brand new. So quaint and cozy and just perfect. 5-minute drive to downtown Ypres (Ieper) and the Menin Gate. Parking at hotel is plentiful and free. Parking in downtown Ypres (Ieper) is free after 6pm.

    Cons -

    • Small niggle. Didn't check for lifts. Room was only on second storey but I struggled with the stairs, due to health issues. Fine for fully able bodied. Also didn't have a kettle in the room, maybe that's just an English thing.
    • The older woman at check-in wasn't very friendly. Very matter of fact, and didn't want to socialize in her broken English. There could be more plugs for charging electronics. The soft-boiled eggs at breakfast weren't appetizing.
    • No coffee in room - had to go to dining area; they start breakfast late - 8am!!

    Very disappointing

Not sure how this hotel receives a 3 star rating; must be only because of the location. Customer service is basically non-existent. We arrived early and were pleased that our room was ready. It was necessary to ring a bell to have someone come to the front desk. Also when using the cafe during open hours no one was available for service even after calling out. There is not a kettle in the room for tea making and when you can finally get someone in the cafe (on second separate time in) you are charged 3euro. The bathroom looked refreshed but one is provided with body/shampoo gel in 3 small packets which are impossible to open. A bit of soap, the size of a ThinMint, is also provided. None of these were refreshed in a 2 night stay. On checkout a bill was presented and not even a "how was you stay" mentioned. Stay for the location which is historic and near a great private museum. Have no expectations and you'll be fine.

Great location, family run hotel, immaculately clean full of history.

The beds were comfortable but had a plastic lining under the sheet that made you so hot during the night.

We found the hotel spotlessly clean, well maintained and warm. The staff were most welcoming and helpful. Well located with good parking.

    Character, clean, spacious, friendly

Great stay.Comfortable beds and clean room.Breakfast was great and staff were friendly. Only thing I’d like would be a kettle in the room but there is a communal kitchen to use which works well.

    All great.

This hotel is well worth a stay, have been loads of times. Love to stay in the hotel it's self, every room different nothing matches which adds to the character and charm.stayed in new block this time, which has very very large rooms kitchen you can use tea coffee cooker microwave. So clean you can eat off ALL THE FLOORS

other than them now not cooking at weekends(understand why)loads of eating places. There isn't anything bad to say. And we are always remembered and asked what we have been doing.

Staff friendly and excellent in all respects. Car park very good. Location superb for a WWI addict! Breakfast very tasty and plentiful. Bar very comfortable and well-stocked! Rooms in the new block were amazing.

    Nothing at all.

Convenient location for our journey back to UK but also to visit Ypres and related WW1 sites.Very comfortable bed and very good breakfast.

    9KlausPosted on: 2-7-2025

very modern and spacy rooms in the annex, free private parking, good breakfast, good wifi, close to the Ypern city centre, calm area

    4DanPosted on: 1-27-2025

The room was cleanThe lady who prepared eggs at breakfast was pleasant and made the eggs well. The breakfast area is nice. The first world war trenches on the property are worth seeing and are a great glimpse into history.

One thing that should be mentioned is that the lovely old chateau in the main pictures - the one that you are led to believe is the hotel itself- is likely not where your room will be. Rather, an ugly modern construction on the other side of the property contains many of the rooms that guests are allotted, and this is not made clear when booking. The "garden view" described when we booked our room was rather a view out over the main road. Rather than a pleasant, bucolic stay at a quaint old house in the countryside, it was instead more akin to a night at a motel beside a motorway, with the sound of cars passing outside. When we arrived we were not greeted particularly nicely by the lady behind the counter. She seemed almost surprised that we were expecting to stay in the old building. The television in the room stopped working for some reason during the night and the heating was also far too high with no visible way to adjust it

Extremely clean and modern in the bedrooms and the main building is just beautiful. We stayed here to visit Ypres town centre and it was a very quick drive to get there. Very convenient for exploring this area.
