    Pros +

    • Return trip. Cooking Jigoku Mushi on sight and location in proximity to the Jigoku and amazing nearby and unique onsen are hard to beat. Walking distance to multiple markets and main bus hub. Rooms are large and have own bathrooms. Owner is super kind helpful and takes pride in the ryokan. Futon are mixed with some more supportive than others so bring a foot pump inflatable if you are picky. Towels are provided and kettle and kitchen and even small bath on site. What else could you want? Only thing to note is building is closed (with respect) from 10-3 so if you are coming early with bags please store at coin lockers at Kannawa tourist/bus center (plenty available even on holiday and large) or carry halfway up the hill towards jigoku for free storage at the cafe. Have a great trip!
    • It was amazing, so kind people at hotel, With hot spring inside hotel, Excellent location, I was 5 days at the hotel, Japanese style room, Highly recommend ? ? ?
    • The front desk staff was kind enough to wait an extra 10 minutes for me, as requested, since my bus was delayed. He was also patient and gave me a detailed explanation of how everything worked, along with some helpful local recommendations. The room was relatively small, but I had no issues — I slept comfortably and even enjoyed the onsen in the morning before check-out. The hotel’s location was fairly central, and I was able to walk to izakayas and convenience stores, even later in the evening.

    Cons -

    • The accommodation had a "check-in by 9 PM" policy, which can be inconvenient if you’re arriving in Beppu later in the day, as I was. Some of the hotel’s facilities felt a bit dated and could use some updates.
    • The building is closed from 10AM-3PM for cleaning, so you won't be able to arrive or check-in during this time. The building is old and lacking amenities. I didn't see many other guests during my stay so it was very quiet and somewhat eerie feeling.
    • The room keychain is too big. I wish it was smaller.

Fantastic location, very kind staff who explained everything through translator app.

    10ErinPosted on: 10-18-2024

Exceeded expectations and 100 percent lived up to all the other reviews. Owner was so kind, Jigoku mushi was delicious and all supplies needed were available in the kitchen, shop across the street had all the ingredients you could ever want, onsen was hot and wonderful, bedding was comfortable, location was ideal. What more could you want?

Good value accommodation located in Kannawa Onsen, walking distance to the Jigoku and Hyotan Onsen. The manager didn't speak English, but did his best to communicate using a translator app. You can use the kitchen to make Jigoku Mushi (hot spring steam cooking) with your own ingredients. I stayed in a Japanese style room with futon and tatami mats. It was like living in a 1K apartment more than a hotel.

Within walking distance to the Jigoku Meguri tour and the infamous Hyotan Onsen. There’s a lift for upper floors and it even has a kitchenette. The tatami floor is very nice. The futon is comfortable. It was a short stay but it was nice. My room even has a balcony. Retro bathroom with no bidet.

The room keychain is too big. I wish it was smaller.

Near the hell streams. Parking area near.

I suggested to put onsen etiquette pamphlet in the room. It would be nice to have hook for wet cloth in the anteroom

In the heart of Kannawa district, perfect for visiting the Hell ponds of Beppu or enjoying a nighttime onsen. Accessible hot spring bath and sauna on the ground floor of the hotel. Bonus : you het to experience as you wish the "hell steam cooking" (jigokumushi) from a free access kitchen in front of the hotel with three steam ovens. A great experience at a very friendly price

In the middle of area with most hot springs in Beppu. The receptionist was super friendly and mastered the way of using Google translate to tell us everything we know. The hotel includes a hot spring steam oven (amazing!), which we could use for free and we were told where we could buy ingredients for it.We stayed in the japanese style room, which was nice and cute with a great view over the town to the ocean.

We only stayed one night, should've stayed longer.

It was quite difficult to find the hotel at first. It is located in the Onsen area n also walking distance to restaurants. The staff is very helpful n friendly. Onsen in the hotel itself. Parking is free n near hotel.

Bed a bit small n no breakfast included.

    5ConstantinosPosted on: 3-14-2023

it was in San excellent location in Beppu next to a bunch of onsens and places to eat. The staff was also nice and professional.

the plastic on the tea kettle was falling apart and when warming up it had a weird smell coming from it. also there were stains on the sliding panel and the table was water stained badly. it just needed minor touchups so that room would be nicer.

    5CarlosPosted on: 12-8-2022

The staff was kind and apologized for the inconvenience. They offered a complimentary hot springs voucher (outside hotel). However, Booking.com and the hotel failed to announce directly to the customer the lack of hot water,

The hotel had no hot water or hot spring services. They said they announced this problem on the web page, but they should send an email or call the customers to let them know. Also, if these important services are not available, they should be a discount on the fare.

Oh I love this hotel with the japanese toom and I got a great view of the city with steam. It's light up with color at night so beautiful.

    Nothing!
