Amazing location - oceanfront with sweeping views of Beppu Bay and neighboring onsen towns including Beppu. The hotel is BIG so when we went there were a lot of people, but the rooms were relatively quiet so we didn't have too much trouble with noise. The onsen is INCREDIBLE - the outdoor bath looks out directly onto the ocean and also has beautiful views of the night sky. The room was a little dated but the beds were really comfortable and overall it was a nice experience. The staff were lovely and accomodating.

The buffet-style meal was crowded and not particularly tasty. Everything else with the hotel was nice, however the buffet was lackluster and the 2000yen price tag for all you can drink on top of that a little bit irksome. I'll definitely stay at the resort again, but I'm not going to eat there and instead eat somewhere else in Hiji.

The breakfast tasted so delicious, Mr Taro from the front desk suggested it and very resonable prize. During our stay my niece was poorly, she had a fever and the night staff 2 japanese men rang the hospital for us. He even type the hospital location to my sister’s car because she struggled with reading kanji. They were all very helpful to us,they lend their thermometer even put a translator for my husband inorder to understand him. I have had a problem connecting with my sister to pick us up from the Umi Jigoku and Mr Taro was talking to us in English and all the staffs were all very helpful. Mr Taro even left the desk to ask our my niece was. Please give him an award or praise please. Many thanks to all the cleaners the onsen lady for private family bath.

Everything was all amazing

The breakfast restaurant is a nice place for enjoying meal and watching the sunrise.The central heating system is excellent. Even the aisle of hotel is warm.

Some of hotel's facility on beach has some minor impact for the view from room.

Beautiful hotel with a vintage feel, huge pool and ocean side.

They didn’t have the pool open and didn’t denote that on their website, we were compensated so that was fair. If your booking for the swimming pool - call first or message to confirm it’s current hours of operation. They didn’t mention the buffet prices or need for reservations- hopefully they will explain that to you!

extremely dissapointing.

When Checking in we were informed that we had only booked for 1 person, this was a mistake it seems on my part however they informed us the rate would be double for 2 people plus we would have to pay for a mandatory breakfast and dinner at the hotel, after a lot of discussion they let us off the breakfast but then going to the room you could not swing a cat, we paid for a sea view but there were white bars across the windows - just not a good experience at all, left immediately and went somewhere else, they refused to refund any of the money.

Onsen here is so nice. The outdoor onsen is so relaxing. I preferred the room without shower more.

From the room with shower and the room without shower is so far apart. Because it's in different building. But that how the hotel is designed. ?

Although we have asked to have a evening meal at the hotel when we arrived before 3 pm since there is no restaurant in the area at all, the staff told us not possible cause we should have requested by the morning.It would have been appreciated if we were suggested to have a evening meal at hotel when we booked though.
